Puppet Masters
The US is threatening buyers of Russian-made weapons with economic sanctions as part of its general pressure campaign against Moscow. The sale of the advanced S-400 anti-aircraft system is of particular concern in Washington, which has repeatedly advised countries interested in buying the weapon system, including Turkey and India, against doing so.
Despite the threat of sanctions, the Indian government wants to move forward with the key defense deal, which is estimated to be worth US$5.6 billion, the Times of India reported citing an official source.
So why the almost uncritical eulogising of a controversial life beset by allegations of incompetence, corruption and disloyalty?
Perhaps it is the tradition of the people of the United States to venerate their warriors. From the highest serving general to the lowest level footsoldier, Americans have a penchant for what might be termed 'soldier worship'. There is also a tendency for disparate groups of people to pull together behind someone when confronted by an idea or by a person to whom they feel repugnance. It is certainly the case that the transition from life to death brings out the sentimental in people whether such death is sudden or prolonged. And, of course, as with most cultures, Americans are cautious about speaking ill of the dead.

Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman has said that Israel would not limit itself to Syria if it felt the need to deal with "Iranian threats" in the region.
"We are certainly monitoring everything that is happening in Syria, and regarding Iranian threats, we are not limiting ourselves just to Syrian territory. This also needs to be clear," Lieberman said, speaking at a news conference in Jerusalem on Monday, according to Reuters.
Asked directly whether Israel might target Iraq, Lieberman responded: "I'm saying that we will handle any Iranian threat, no matter where it comes from...Israel's freedom is total. We retain this freedom of action," the minister said.
Comment: Just as with 'Iranian missiles in Syria', Israel is acting preemptively to 'stem' Iran's growing influence in the Shia Crescent.
But it's too little, too late.
The UN 'secret directive' on Syria was published by Russian newspaper Kommersant on Sunday. The two-page document, dated October 2017, lays out the framework for "all UN actors" operating in Syria "to ensure support and assistance is provided to those in need in all areas of Syria."
According to the leaked file, the UN "would be ready to facilitate reconstruction" in Syria only once there is "a genuine and inclusive political transition negotiated by the parties." This phrase is highlighted in the text.
Comment: Syria needs those in the West who are responsible for its destruction to pay for the damage they have caused, but with regards to reconstruction, it's likely Russia and China will be more trustworthy partners:
- Coming soon: The day the United Nations ceased to exist
- UN finally becoming exposed as haven for rapists and pedophiles
- UN Commission clears Israel of war crimes for bombing elementary schools
- Human Rights Watch: UN council has utterly failed to investigate war crimes committed under guise of fighting terrorism in Iraq

Alexander Shokhin, president of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, a major lobbying group promoting the interests of Russian businesses, both state and private, has expressed support for Russia joining new financial telecommunications networks established by either the European Union or China.
"Some of Gazprom's partners on the Nord Stream 2 project are saying that if secondary sanctions will not allow them to carry out settlements in US banks (and any dollar settlement is a corresponding account in US banks) they will be forced to withdraw from the project," Shokhin explained, speaking on Russian business TV network RBK.
Comment: Perhaps it's not possible - yet - for Russia to simply ditch the US financial system completely, however they have been laying the foundations for a replacement for quite some time, so whether out of opportunity or necessity, they will be prepared with an alternative, further rendering the US irrelevant in the new multi-polar world.
The FBI has rebuked Donald Trump's tweet saying that Hillary Clinton's unsecured email servers were reportedly accessed by Chinese hackers; however, the agency has not yet clarified the point whether or not it had been informed by the Intelligence Community Inspector General about foreign intrusion of Clinton's private server back in 2015.
Comment: While it would truly be a sight to behold to see Hillary Clinton, who is possibly one of the most corrupt people on the planet, finally be held accountable for even a modicum of her actions during her life of crime, the swamp runs deep in the US and won't go down without a fight. Hope for the best, but don't hold your breath.
"The West isn't done with Syria," Pearson Sharp, an investigative reporter with One America News, told Sputnik. "While President Trump has signaled many times that he's eager to pull the US out of Syria, many members of his administration don't feel the same way, and it appears that despite his best efforts, they're pulling the strings behind the scenes. Regime change is the ultimate goal in Syria."
Controversy is simmering about the Syrian Arab Army's upcoming operation in Idlib, the last terrorist stronghold in Syria. The governorate is currently home to almost 70,000 rebel fighters and up to 2-3 million civilians.

Russian intelligence believes that Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) was likely behind the recent killing of the Donetsk Republic leader, FSB spokesman Sergey Beseda said on Monday, as cited by TASS and RIA Novosti. The FSB is ready to assist the authorities of the self-proclaimed republic to investigate Zakharchenko's slaying, he added.
In fact, "our specialists are already working there," Beseda said.

Kamphuis, a cyber security expert and co-author of a handbook for investigative journalists on how to keep themselves and their work safe from government spying, has been missing since August 20th, when he checked out of a hotel in the town of Bodø in northern Norway.
On Friday conservative watchdog group Judicial Watch dropped another bombshell. The Justice Department admitted in a court filing that the FISA Court never held hearings on the FISA applications for former Trump advisor Carter Page.
Now it appears and is likely that the Obama administration bypassed the FISA Court to spy on the Trump campaign based on a story they knew to be false. ImperatorRex on Twitter explained how the Obama administration went around the FISA Court to spy on the opposition party based on lies they helped push in the liberal fake news media.
