Saudis insist murdering 40 children aboard Yemen school bus was 'legitimate'

Scouts carry the coffin of a boy during the funeral of people killed in a Saudi-led coalition air strike on a bus in northern Yemen, in Saada, Yemen August 13, 2018.
A Saudi-led coalition spokesman has insisted that an airstrike that killed 40 children in Yemen did not hit a school bus, and raised doubts about the authenticity of photos depicting the aftermath of the deadly attack.

The bus attacked on August 9 was "a legitimate target," Colonel Turki al-Maliki, the spokesman for the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen, told CNN on Sunday. He also claimed that the target could not have been a school bus because "there [was] no school at that time when the incident happened."

"We never observed any kids on the bus," al-Maliki said, adding the coalition had targeted "Houthi commanders and some Houthi element fighters in that bus."

"We should not sit like a rabbit in front of a snake" says German FM on US sanctions

German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas has said now is not the time to "sit like a rabbit in front of a snake" in the face of US sanctions. It comes amid disputes between the EU and US over issues such as tariffs & military spending.

"In the face of [US] economic sanctions and punitive tariffs," Maas told Bild newspaper on Sunday when asked about partnership with Washington. "We must protect our own interests. It is not only the 80 million Germans [we are talking about], it is Europe and the 500 million people [living there]," Maas added.

It's not clear if by "rabbit" if Maas meant the whole of Europe or Germany which got probably most of Trump's ire among the EU states. Even during his presidential campaign Trump was critical of German chancellor Angela Merkel for her migrant policies, calling her "a catastrophic leader."

Twitter user in chief Trump says Syria, Iran, Russia attack on Idlib terrorists will be 'a mistake'

On September 4th, US President Donald Trump warned Russia, Iran and Syria against a "reckless attack" on the Idlib Province in Northwestern Syria.

"President Bashar al-Assad of Syria must not recklessly attack Idlib Province. The Russians and Iranians would be making a grave humanitarian mistake to take part in this potential human tragedy. Hundreds of thousands of people could be killed. Don't let that happen!"

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and allies have been amassing a huge military presence near Idlib in recent days, where opposition fighters and terrorist groups are holding out among a population of approximately 3 million people.

The UN also warned that it was bracing for "the most horrific tragedy" in Idlib and dubbed it a "dumping ground" for militants and civilians who have been pushed out of successive pockets of opposition-held territory.

Comment: What would Trump have Syria, Russia and Iran do instead? Should they just sit down and watch as terrorists create a jihadi caliphate in Idlib at the expense of the 3 million people living there?

It is discouraging that Trump makes this statement, as it plays right into the hands of the 'deep state' warhawks like John Bolton who have announced they will retaliate against a supposed chemical attack that hasn't even happened yet, and if it does, you can bet it was a false flag provocation, as exposed by Russia.

Pepe Escobar: Currency chaos, gold, oil, cryptocurrencies and dumping the dollar

Iran oil exports will likely drop to just over 2 million barrels a day pushing the rial lower.
The Iranian rial: crash. The Turkish lira: crash. The Argentine peso: crash. The Brazilian real: crash. There are multiple, complex, parallel vectors at play in this wilderness of crashing currencies. Turkey's case is heavily influenced by the bubble of easy credit created by European banks.

Argentina's problem is mostly to do with the neoliberal austerity of President Mauricio Macri's government admitting it won't be able to fulfill payment targets agreed with the IMF less than three months ago.

Iran's has to do with harsh United States sanctions imposed after the Trump administration's unilateral pullout from the Iran nuclear deal.

Brazil's has to do with what the Goddess of the Market considers anathema: a victory by the imprisoned Lula (former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva) or his appointed candidate in the presidential election next October.

McCain's Funeral: A Disgusting Exercise in Historical Revisionism

mccain fuuneral

Who shrank Henry Kissinger??
John McCain's death has inspired a slew of whitewashed obituaries, cringeworthy plaudits and declarations of love from both sides of the political divide - but as historical revisionism goes, his funeral was a step too far.

If there is anyone who owns the right to whitewash John McCain's legacy, it is his daughter, Meghan McCain. In her hour of grief, we can permit her to rewrite her father's personal history, to cast him as a hero among men. That much is to be expected - and few would take much issue with it.

But we cannot permit her to stand in front of the world, on the huge platform that she has been given, to rewrite and whitewash the Vietnam War - and that is exactly what she attempted to do at her father's funeral.

It gives me no pleasure to be writing something like this about a person who has just died, or to take aim at a grieving daughter - but this is bigger than the McCain family and their hurt feelings. This is about historical revisionism at its most disgusting and unacceptable.

Comment: The good news is: John McCain is still dead.

Donald Trump's trade war with China is almost certainly doomed to failure

The woes and risks of Donald Trump's ill-advised trade war are fast becoming a reality, endorsed even by the corporate media.

Trump wants to play hardball with China. On Monday, the US president said that now "was not the right time to talk" to China about the ongoing and escalating trade war currently taking place between the two economic powers, just after negotiations between the two countries ended without any meaningful resolutions.

"It's just not the right time to talk right now, to be honest with China," Trump reportedly said.

"It's too one-sided for too many years and too many decades, and so it's not the right time to talk. But eventually, I'm sure that we'll be able to work out a deal with China."

John Kerry accuses Trump of 'making things up' on Iran

Earlier, the former US Secretary of State said that President Trump's decision in May to leave the 2015 Iran nuclear deal "weakens our security, breaks America's word [and] isolates us from our European allies."

In an interview with CBS' "Face the Nation", former US Secretary of State John Kerry berated President Donald Trump for having described the Iran nuclear accord, or the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) as the "worst deal ever."

Comment: While Trump's views on Iran don't appear to be founded on any objective reality, John Kerry is hardly in a position to criticize anyone.

Another hilarious propaganda fail - NYT now claiming FBI was trying to 'flip' Oleg Deripaska...

Yesterday we wrote about how the Associated Press was attempting to cloud and obfuscate details (now getting exposed) about DOJ Official Bruce Ohr and his engagements with Fusion-GPS, Glenn Simpson, Christopher Steele and the collaboration with the FBI in their collective political targeting of candidate Donald Trump.

I noted it becomes frustrating because writing hundreds of words to: (1) initially outline, then; (2) describe as the fiasco unfolds with more details surfacing; then (3) affirm the original outline and description with irrefutable evidence; is like writing/reading the same chapter of the same novel over-and-over-and-over... yet no-one in authority makes a single move to indict these bastards because 'muh institutions' must be protected. I digress...

Here's the cut-to-the-chase: Those AP reporters are almost virtually guaranteed to be the same AP reporters that are participants within the Fusion GPS network; and the same AP reporters who collaborate with Andy Weissmann et al. These endless media scribes were willing participants within the 2015/2016/2017 plot, plan and execution; and as such they are clearly acting/writing to protect themselves and their interests.

In fits of anti-Trump pique, American liberals shamelessly embrace 'deep-state' criminals

Brennan/Maher

Former CIA Director John Brennan • Real Time host Bill Maher
In their blind hatred for Trump, liberals have sunk to an all-time low by unabashedly cheering a war criminal.

On August 24, HBO's Real Time with Bill Maher had former CIA director John Brennan on as an interview guest. Brennan has been in the news lately because he accused Trump of treason or, more precisely, "nothing short of treason," due to the president's weak-kneed, post-summit news conference with Russia's Vladimir Putin.

In retaliation for Brennan's remarks, Trump revoked his security clearance. This has caused uproar from establishment intelligence toadies and, in a case of strange bedfellows, the allegedly liberal anti-Trump movement which has dubbed itself the #Resistance.

On the episode of Real Time, the usually acerbic Maher, or as I am fond of calling him due to his petulant demeanor and intellectual dwarfism, 'Little Bill', immodestly degraded himself fawning over John Brennan before the former CIA chief ever got on stage by gushing that he was a "true American patriot."
