Arab world doesn't trust U.S.: More dangerous as friend than enemy

Image

When the Arab spring started gathering momentum the US tried to take the "right side of the history". In reality it meant its agreement to support the forces that opposed the authoritarian leaders in the Maghreb countries and the Middle East. Meanwhile, the Americans did not take into account the fact that many of those rulers had been Washington's allies for many years. The outcome of that policy is quite sad: Islamists strengthened their influence on the region, while the US reputation in the Arab world was destroyed.

Egypt is the largest country of the Arab world. It is not surprising that the change of the regime in that specific country became the central event of the Arab Spring. During the three years that past since the first protests the power in Egypt has changed hands several times.

The Americans acknowledged each new regime as legitimate, easily forgetting its ties to the previous leadership in Egypt. Below is the commentary of Prof. Georgy Mirsky, chief researcher at the Institute of World Economy and International Relations of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Americans "fed up" with government's wasteful spending on military "jingoism and adventurism"

The American people are "fed up" with the US government's wasteful spending on military "jingoism and adventurism" at a time of austerity budgets, a political and military analyst in New York says.

Michael Burns made the comment in regard to US Secretary of State John Kerry's recent statement about Washington's support for its NATO partners in central and Eastern Europe in the wake of the recent developments in Ukraine and Russia's annexation of Crimea.

"This initiative announced by Ambassador Kerry on behalf of the United States is just another example of our spending money, supplemental dollars, on military jingoism and adventurism," Michael Burns said.

"The Republican Party has announced a very draconian budget, cutting domestic spending for all sorts of medical services and other services, threatening social security," he told Press TV on Wednesday.

Veterans' wrongful deaths cost the VA $200 million

Image

Since 9/11 almost 1,000 veterans have died due to negligence in the veterans health-care system. After lengthy legal battles the VA is finally making payments to their families.

An Iraq War veteran with post-traumatic stress disorder and a history of drug dependency is found dead on the floor of his room at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs hospital in West Los Angeles after doctors give him a 30-day supply of the anti-anxiety medication alprazolamand a 15-day supply of methadone.

In Shreveport, La., a veteran overdoses on morphine while housed in a locked VA psychiatric unit. In a Minnesota VA psych ward, a veteran shoots himself in the head. In Portland, Ore., a delusional veteran jumps off the roof of the VA hospital.

These are some of the deaths that resulted in more than $200 million in wrongful death payments by the Department of Veterans Affairs in the decade after 9/11, according to VA data obtained by The Center for Investigative Reporting.

Why Russia may not be poised to roll into Ukraine after all

Image

Are Russian troops massing on the Ukrainian border in pre-invasion strength? The interim Ukrainian government, backed by NATO, says yes. The Russians insist they're not doing anything beyond routine exercises, and have no intention of invading Ukraine anyway.

It should be an easy question to resolve, but it turns out to be anything but.

Secretary of State John Kerry says there are at least 40,000 Russian troops, or about four standard Russian divisions, maneuvering provocatively on Ukraine's fringes. Ukrainian officials put the count even higher.

"Any real progress in Ukraine must include a pullback of the very large Russian force that is currently massing along Ukraine's borders," Mr. Kerry said after meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Paris Sunday. "We believe these forces are creating a climate of fear and intimidation in Ukraine. It certainly does not create the climate that we need."

Allen Dulles and the Ukrainian fascists: Did the CIA/MI6 use of Nazis in Ukraine during the Cold War ever stop?

Image
Mykola Lebed, Ukrainian fascist, sadist and American intelligence officer.
According to Hitler's Shadow: Nazi War Criminals, U.S. Intelligence and the Cold War by Richard Breitman and Norman Goda, U.S. intelligence documents released in 2010 reveal that on May 5, 1952, the Deputy Director of the CIA, Allen Dulles, well-known for running the Nazi Ratlines after World War II, which facilitated the escape of Nazi war criminals, wrote a letter to the U.S. Commissioner of Immigration and Naturalization on the subject of Mykola Lebed, the chief of the secret police organization of Stephen Bandera's OUN-B (Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists).

In the letter Dulles wrote that Lebed was of:
"inestimable value to this Agency in its operations. In connection with future Agency operations of the first importance, it is urgently necessary that subject be able to travel in Western Europe, before subject undertakes such travel, however, this Agency must be in a position to assure his reentry into the United States without investigation or incident which would attract undue attention to his activities. Your Service has indicated that it cannot give such assurance because of the fact that subject was convicted in 1936 of complicity in the 1934 assassination of the Polish Minister of the Interior and sentenced to death, later commuted to life imprisonment.... Your Service has indicated that, if the subject reenters the United States on a reentry permit, an investigation must then be conducted.... In order to remove the obstacles to the fulfillment of this Agency's projected operations and pursuant to the authority granted under Section 8 of the CIA Act of 1949, I approve and recommend for your approval, the entrance of this subject into the United States for permanent residence under the above Act because such entry is essential to the furtherance of the national intelligence mission and is in the interest of national security."

Comment: There's an online documentary about Ukraine's fascist movement, beginning here. Clearly, the only way they could be sustained and organized down through the decades to the present day - without ever doing an honest day's work by the looks of things - is with American 'democratization' funding.

Best of the Web: Propaganda psy-op? 'Worldwide Wave of Action': The 'Global Spring' begins

Image
An opposition supporter wearing a mask associated with Anonymous. The Ukrainian neo-Nazi Wolfrune symbol appears on the top of the mask.
"The Worldwide #WaveOfAction begins April 4th and runs through July 4th..."

Washington's Blog has brought to our attention a series of videos produced by "Wave of Action" and "Anonymous" concerning the launching of a "Worldwide Global Awakening", a so-called "Global Spring."

"What do you think, Powerful or Impotent? Genius or Idiocy? Productive or Counterproductive?" asks Washington's Blog.

The videos use powerful and emotional quotes, yet they fail to acknowledge the dramatic economic, social and geopolitical realities affecting humanity.

"Move out and do it". But in relation to what?

Does the Wave of Action have an Action Program?

Comment: Because anyone can be 'Anonymous', messages, memes and campaigns associated with its 'brand' are not uni-directional in terms of serving the imperial line. Like the Internet as a whole - which was essentially a creation of the U.S. military - Anonymous cannot be completely controlled. For example, 'Anonymous Ukraine' published a message clarifying that a U.S.-backed coup d'état took place in Ukraine, and further claimed responsibility for leaking emails that implicated the German agent Vitaly Klitschko's role in the fascist coup.

As in every other sphere, it comes down to discernment. New Agey, wishy-washy, pithy videos are generally a red flag that your emotional buttons are being pressed to keep you docile and acquiescent.

FIRE everything and forget the future - elite psychopaths

Image
Oh, that feeling of being lied to that most of us had all those years - well it's safe to say it's not just a feeling any more.

Think of all the wonderfully dressed financial 'experts' we've seen on our televisions over the last seven years, all so confident, with the pretense and arrogance required to be a mainstream media pundit. At first it seemed funny and amusing - every prediction and statement muttered on air - all wrong, and completely off the mark. We knew they didn't know what they were talking about, and enjoyed a laugh at their expense. Only, now it's not funny anymore. Financial and political sock puppets have since left the port of ignorance, and are now permanently moored at the dock of deception.

Blowtorch the Economy

Known to many but understood by few, the Finance-Insurance-Real Estate economy has taken control in what are schizophrenically called the "advanced industrial/post-industrial" nations, AKA the "mature democracies" - where mega-debt, unemployment, slow-to-zero growth, extortionate energy tariffs and income inequality are the main features. Above all, a deregulation-happy, laisser-faire political mindset rules, and we're told that nothing can be done about the firestorm.

Tabloid sez: Obamas fight over her 'seeing the world on the American taxpayers' dime'

In a major behind-the-scenes blowout, President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle waged their worst White House fight ever over her lavish vacation trip to China!

Sources tell The Enquirer that Obama exploded when Michelle refused to cancel her pricey getaway - even after White House advisers warned him that the first couple's six-year string of extravagant vacations had already drained the U.S. Treasury of a whopping $150 million in taxpayers' money.

Instead of postponing her trip, a furious Michelle - still seething over the embarrassing "selfie" Barack recently snapped with a leggy blonde head of state - announced that she was taking her mother along for company.

She further declared that she didn't want reporters covering her activities overseas.

"This was a blowout of epic proportions - probably the nastiest White House fight they've ever had," a Washington, D.C., insider told The Enquirer

U.S. sanctions against Russia undermine America's global domination

Image
© Daily Mail
"Welcome to the digital world, where regions can achieve scale through cooperation within months. Inclusive globalization is clearly under threat", writes Patrick L. Young, an expert in global financial markets, in his article "Upside down: America's war on globalization?" Mr. Young believes that Russia has bright prospects regarding its future digital processing system that can become even more flexible than its American analog.

As a result of financial sanctions imposed by Obama on Russian financial institutions over Crimea, Visa and MasterCard stopped processing transactions for several Russian banks. Patrick L. Young thinks that this decision may hit back at the American economy. Obama has, in fact, undermined the idea of globalization: faced with a financial crackdown, Russia is likely to create its own payment processing system now, the expert says. That means that Visa and MasterCard are going to lose a big share of Russia's inner market.

Mr. Young is confident that Russia's domestic electronic payment system will be a success. The new digital networks are faster, cheaper and more efficient than the American payment legacy system based on analogue architecture, he says. For those who doubt that a Russian solution can be more flexible than the American one, Patrick L. Young cited the example of the Moscow Exchange:

With record low popularity rating, President Hollande promotes Manuel Valls as Prime Minister of new French government

Image
François Hollande's new prime minister, Manuel Valls, is a centrist and a bruiser. He will need these qualities if he is to help turn France round

Five years ago, in 2009, after Manuel Valls urged his unreconstructed party to drop the word "socialist" from its name, he was ordered by its leader to shut up or quit. Two years later, after explaining how painful it would be to remedy France's economic weaknesses, he scored less than 6% in the party primary for the 2012 presidential nomination. Yet on March 31st François Hollande, the French president, appointed the party's most heretical activist as his new prime minister, in place of the bland Jean-Marc Ayrault. It was a move as uncharacteristically bold as it is potentially encouraging for the cause of economic reform in France.

Comment: That is, he's the man who will have no compunction about unleashing extreme right-wing neo-liberal "austerity measures" on the French population in order to apply so-called "economic shock therapy".

That the ultra-cautious Mr Hollande has made such an appointment reflects how crushing was his defeat in the local elections held on March 23rd and 30th. Thanks to high unemployment, high taxes, low growth and inept government, the Socialists lost over 150 towns, mostly to the mainstream right, including Toulouse, which they thought safe, Roubaix and Tourcoing, two towns in the industrial north with a long left-wing heritage, and Limoges, held by the left ever since 1912. Marine Le Pen's populist National Front picked up eleven more town halls, including Fréjus and Béziers, to add to Hénin-Beaumont, which it won in the first round, a big step forward for her party. The only consolation for the Socialists was that Anne Hidalgo won Paris (coincidentally, she shares with Mr Valls the distinction of Spanish birth and family origins).
