Senator Hawley: Big Tech is 'acting like arms of the government'; 'it's scary stuff, it's really censorship'

Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley warned Thursday that big tech is "acting like arms of the government" after the White House admitted that it is asking Facebook to comply with censoring anyone who posts content it deems to be "misinformation".

Here's the backstory:

Judge orders Biden administration to stop approving new DACA applications

A federal judge in southern Texas on Friday ordered the Biden administration to stop granting new applications to the Obama-era immigration program that shielded hundreds of thousands of young immigrants from deportation.

The order declared that the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, known as DACA, was "created in violation of the law and whose existence violates the law." But current recipients of DACA won't immediately have their status pulled as a result of the order, the judge noted.

The ruling, which puts in jeopardy the program that President Joe Biden had sought to preserve, came as news outlets reported arrests at the U.S.-Mexico border hitting their highest levels in more than a decade.

Former President Donald Trump had sought to end DACA, but his effort was blocked in 2020 by the Supreme Court, which ruled 5-4 that his order to wind the program down was unlawfully "arbitrary and capricious."

Comment: Someone finally paid attention to the law? Meanwhile, with the runaway Biden plan, arrests at the border have now topped 1M.

Border Patrol agents have made more than a million arrests at the U.S.-Mexico border so far this year, already higher than any full-year total since at least 2005, according to new Customs and Border Protection figures released Friday.

The CBP data only includes the number of arrests and doesn't account for people who made it across the border without being apprehended.

Agents made more than 178,000 arrests in June, a 3% increase over the prior month.

The number of unaccompanied children arrested crossing the border also rose slightly in June to around 15,000, with CBP officials privately warning in meetings that they were seeing as many as 600 children crossing the border alone a day in July.

Biden calls Cuba 'failed state,' says 'reinstating' internet access is one of the things US is considering

Calling Cuba a failed and repressive state, US President Joe Biden said he was looking at ways to provide internet access to Cubans, but not allowing remittances or lifting the embargo that has strangled the island for decades.

"Communism is a failed system, a universally failed system. I don't see socialism as a very useful substitute, but that's another story," Biden told a reporter on Thursday, answering a question on Cuba during his joint press conference with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who was visiting Washington.

"Cuba is unfortunately a failed state and repressing their citizens," Biden added.

Comment: In that Cuba remains independent and functioning according to its own edicts is a tribute to its past leadership and the strong will of the Cuban people. Any offers from the US will assure strings attached.

Iraq officials say US held talks on troop withdrawal but Biden WH denies remarks

A joint statement issued by American and Iraqi officials in April previously revealed that both parties agreed to the eventual withdrawal of US troops from the Middle Eastern nation; however, the pathway to the military exit was largely based on the time needed to train Iraqi troops to combat Daesh militants.

A dose of confusion was recently dished out, as commentary from the office of the Iraqi prime minister and the Biden administration's special Middle East coordinator sent mixed messages about a potential withdrawal of American troops from Iraq.

The lack of clarity on a potential troop removal from Iraq first emerged after the office of Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi indicated in a Thursday statement that officials had discussed the "mechanisms for withdrawing combat forces from Iraq" with none other than Brett McGurk, who serves as the special coordinator for the Middle East and North Africa.

Comment: Negotiations without trust are futile. Be glad the US (so far) is leaving.

Question

Joe Biden finally gets some tough questions and things go badly

Joe Biden held a press conference Thursday to discuss the pull-out from Afghanistan, with the military mission set to end August 31st. In the process, perhaps because it wasn't the normal, fawning press corps asking him questions (these were mostly reporters from the national security beat), the president finally got some tough questions thrown at him.

Let's just say that he didn't handle it very well, but to start, here's a clip of Biden blanking out, something that is basically a given anytime he speaks in public.

Comment: "The listless, meandering mission in Afghanistan always lacked an end game." Remaining was the end game for advantages less obvious.

Biden DOJ hosts propaganda presentation teaching that inner city violence is caused by white supremacist ideology, racism, and police

According to a Biden Administration email exclusively obtained by Human Events, the White House and Department of Justice hosted a training seminar that claimed inner city violence is caused by white supremacist ideology and racism.

The training was titled Community Violence Intervention (CVI) Webinar Series: Evidence-based Theory and Research on CVI and hosted by government officials Chiraag Bains and Phelan Wyrick.

Chiraag Bains is the White House Special Assistant to the President for Criminal Justice & Guns Policy at the Domestic Policy Council. He previously was legal director of the far-left dark money group Demos, and an Open Society Foundation fellow.

Comment: Nary a word about personal responsibility. Yet this nonsense will be used to shape domestic government policy.

Report says Hunter Biden prosecutor 'paused' investigation before election

Did U.S Attorney for the District of Delaware, David Weiss pause the Hunter Biden investigation to protect Joe Biden's presidential campaign?
The top federal prosecutor in Delaware decided to pause a criminal investigation of Hunter Biden months before the 2020 election to prevent the public from learning about it, according to a report.

US Attorney David Weiss, appointed by former President Donald Trump, decided not to seek search warrants or issue grand jury subpoenas so as not to "alert the public to the existence of the case in the middle of a presidential election," Politico reports.

The prosecutor's office reportedly was torn over whether to continue its probe or pause it due to the election, and Weiss, who remains in his job leading the case, sided with those who wanted to wait.

Comment: There can be no other explanation for the 'pause' in pursuing such a slam-dunk case as presented by Hunter's laptop, and the total media blackout for reporting on it, other than shielding Joe's presidential campaign. This was borne out by polls indicating nearly 17% of Democrat voters would not have cast their ballot for Biden, if they had known about his and his son's corruption.

From November 2020:
The study, conducted by The Polling Company on behalf of the Media Research Center, polled 1,750 Biden voters in seven swing states, Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin), six of which (all but North Carolina) were called for Biden.

"One of every six Biden voters we surveyed (17%) said they would have abandoned the Democratic candidate had they known the facts about one or more of these news stories. A shift of this magnitude would have changed the outcome in all six of the swing states won by Joe Biden, and Donald Trump would have comfortably won a second term as president," MRC reports.

The survey found that more than one-third of Biden voters (35.4%) were unaware of the serious allegations brought against the Democratic nominee by Tara Reade, a former staffer who said Biden sexually assaulted her in the 1990s. They found that 8.9% of his voters would not have voted for him had they known about the allegations.

"If they had known about Tara Reade's sexual assault allegations, 8.9% told us they would have changed their vote — either switching to Trump or a 3rd party candidate, not voting for any presidential candidate, or not voting at all. By itself, this would have flipped all six of the swing states won by Biden (Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin), giving the President a win with 311 electoral college votes," MRC reports.

Additionally, 45.1 percent said that they were not aware of the scandals surrounding Hunter Biden. "According to our poll, full awareness of the Hunter Biden scandal would have led 9.4% of Biden voters to abandon the Democratic candidate, flipping all six of the swing states he won to Trump, giving the President 311 electoral votes."

Congressional corruption: Nancy and Paul Pelosi are making millions trading stocks in companies she actively regulates

U.S. House of Representatives Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (L) and businessman Paul Pelosi
The Speaker, already one of the richest members in Congress, has become far richer through investment maneuvers in Big Tech, as she privately chats with their CEOs.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is the sixth-richest member of Congress, according to the most recent financial disclosure statements filed in 2019. As the California Democrat has risen through party ranks and obtained more and more political power, her personal wealth has risen right along with it. Pelosi "has seen her wealth increase to nearly $115 million from $41 million in 2004," reports the transparency non-profit group Open Secrets. Even by the standards of wealth that define that legislative body — "more than half of those in Congress are millionaires" — the wealth and lifestyle of the long-time liberal politician and most powerful lawmaker in Washington are lavish.

And ever since ascending to the top spot in the House, Pelosi and her husband, Paul, keep getting richer and richer. Much of their added wealth is due to extremely lucrative and "lucky" decisions about when to buy and sell stocks and options in the very industries and companies over which Pelosi, as House Speaker, exercises enormous and direct influence.

Comment: Pelosi exhibits many signs of sociopathy. Her callous treatment those she considers inferior, plus the attitude that 'rules don't apply to me' argue for it.

The Guardian plumbs new depths: Inside the latest wild claims from its resident 'Russiagate' fanatics that Putin got Trump elected

Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin shake hands during a joint press conference after their summit on July 16, 2018 in Helsinki, Finland.
If you believe The Guardian, leaked Kremlin papers prove that the Russian state hatched a secret plot to have Donald Trump elected as US president. However, based on the evidence, it seems fair to be more than a little sceptical.

From 2016 to 2020, a single story with two elements dominated the American headlines: Russiagate. The first part of the narrative was the claim that the Russian government had used a range of tools, including disinformation, to ensure Trump clinched his country's highest office. The second was that Trump had knowingly colluded with Moscow to achieve this goal.

After endless repetition, these claims became something close to sacred 'truths' for some people. And yet, as we now know, the whole thing began with a falsehood, or more accurately a single document containing a whole series of falsehoods.

This was the infamous 'Steele dossier', assembled by former British intelligence office Christopher Steele, as part of a strategy by the Democratic Party to dig up dirt to blacken Trump's reputation.

Biden: Social media platforms 'killing people'

President Biden on Friday said that social media companies that allow coronavirus misinformation to spread on their platforms are "killing people," escalating a fight with Facebook and other companies as the White House warns about the spread of inaccurate information about COVID-19 vaccines.

Biden was asked by reporters at the White House on Friday afternoon what his message is to social media platforms on coronavirus misinformation.

"They're killing people. The only pandemic we have is among the unvaccinated. And they're killing people," Biden said.

Comment:

More from RT:
Along with Biden's accusation that social media platforms like Facebook are "killing people," White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki has found herself in hot water with critics after defending officials "flagging problematic posts" related to Covid-19 and vaccines.

In a testy Friday press conference, she again defended the controversial strategy and claimed people are dying from "misinformation" being spread on social media. She even called for the banning of those spreading "misinformation," not just from one platform but all, an opinion that was blasted by numerous activists and journalists.

Facebook has been cracking down on Covid-19 information that does not align with the World Health Organization and local governments' official viewpoints since the beginning of the pandemic. In March, CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that the platform was working with health officials to enable vaccination appointments via Facebook-owned WhatsApp. In a bid to push its users to get vaccinated, Facebook said it would also show vaccination venues nearby and add pop-up labels on posts about Covid-19 jabs, ostensibly to persuade those hesitant that they are safe and effective.
