The US has denied a report that it has reached a compromise that would allow Israel to continue the construction of settlements that has already begun.

"That report in that Israeli media outlet is inaccurate," State Department Spokesman Ian Kelly said after the Maariv newspaper reported that the Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak and US envoy George Mitchell had struck such a deal.

Chinese President Hu Jintao and nine top leaders from the ruling Communist Party say they will 'severely punish' those involved in the Xinjiang unrest.

"The planners of the incident, the organizers, key members, and the serious violent criminals must be severely punished according to law," Xinhua news agency quoted the top leaders as saying at a meeting on Thursday.

The summit commenced -- upon Hu's order -- in the wake of the unrest in Muslim majority Xinjiang, which was identified as "the most important and pressing task."

China Tries to Calm Urumqi as Mobs Take to Streets

Hundreds of Chinese from rival ethnic groups fought each other with machetes, metal pipes and bricks in Urumqi, overcoming police attempts to prevent the deadliest communal clashes in decades from escalating.

A mob of Han Chinese was seen breaking into a three-story apartment inhabited by ethnic Uighurs in the northwestern city. Earlier, police fired tear gas to prevent the mob avenging rioting by Uighurs that left at least 156 dead. The fighting came after thousands of Chinese armed with knives and steel bars clashed in central Urumqi with police.

Goldman Sachs: The Great American Bubble Machine

Image
© Victor Juhasz
The first thing you need to know about Goldman Sachs is that it's everywhere. The world's most powerful investment bank is a great vampire squid wrapped around the face of humanity, relentlessly jamming its blood funnel into anything that smells like money.

Any attempt to construct a narrative around all the former Goldmanites in influential positions quickly becomes an absurd and pointless exercise, like trying to make a list of everything. What you need to know is the big picture: If America is circling the drain, Goldman Sachs has found a way to be that drain - an extremely unfortunate loophole in the system of Western democratic capitalism, which never foresaw that in a society governed passively by free markets and free elections, organized greed always defeats disorganized democracy.

Book of Secrets: Scientist David Kelly, suicided by MI5, was preparing to spill the beans

Dr David Kelly
Weapons inspector David Kelly was writing a book exposing highly damaging government secrets before his mysterious death.

He was intending to reveal that he warned Prime Minister Tony Blair there were no weapons of mass destruction anywhere in Iraq weeks before the British and American invasion.

He had several discussions with a publisher in Oxford and was seeking advice on how far he could go without breaking the law on secrets.

Following his death, his computers were seized and it is still not known if any rough draft was discovered by investigators and, if so, what happened to the material.

Dr Kelly was also intending to lift the lid on a potentially bigger scandal, his own secret dealings in germ warfare with the apartheid regime in South Africa.

London MET police facing biggest police scandal in decades over Waterboarding

In his first-ever media interview, Nigerian immigrant David Nwankwo stands by his claim that he was tortured by police. An outrageous smear? Perhaps. But it's part of wider allegations of corruption, theft and brutality that dog the Met.

A nondescript terrace house in North London and a police drugs raid is in full swing.

On a bedroom floor, David Nwankwo is sitting, semi-naked, with his hands handcuffed behind his back as a plain- clothes officer yells: 'Tell the truth.'

The 24-year-old Nigerian-born immigrant is repeatedly kicked and slapped, on one occasion even being struck around the head with a Bible.

Mossad Might Be Implicated in Honduras Military Coup

Venezuelan deputy Adel El Zabayar revealed Thursday the implication of Israeli intelligence service (Mossad) in the perpetrated coup d'état last Sunday against Honduran constitutional President Manuel Zelaya.

Two weeks before the action Israeli diplomacy was active among representatives of the opposition in Honduras, mainly the sector represented by facto ruler, Roberto Micheletti, stated the Venezuelan deputy in an interview with Prensa Latina.

"The Embassy of Israel was the scene of intense diplomatic movement with important representatives of the opposition, including Micheletti," he emphasized.

Military doublespeak over censorship of fireball data

A few weeks ago I wrote about scientists who were unhappy that a purported clamp down was afoot on their use of data snagged by U.S. military spacecraft - hush hush satellites that from time to time catch natural cosmic fireballs blazing through Earth's atmosphere.

Digging in on this story is not easy. Military higher-ups and the agencies involved are guarded about how potent their satellite sensors are as they stare at Earth for nuclear detonations, missile launches and the like.

In a new exclusive interview with SPACE.com, U.S. Air Force Brigadier General Robert Rego, who is in charge of the policy guidance behind the data release, said the Air Force Space Command is "circling the wagons" to close some loopholes in the dissemination of potentially sensitive information.

Setting Waziristan Ablaze

Pakistani police beat protestors in Waziristan, north-west Pakistan
We at PakNationalists.com strongly support the military operation against the terrorists in northwest Pakistan who are disguised as 'Pakistani Taliban' and are killing Pakistanis while claiming to fight American occupation of Afghanistan. The author, Mr. Roedad Khan, a former senior bureaucrat in the Pakistani government, makes a valid point here. The high standard of proficiency that the Pakistani military has shown in Swat is not matched by the elected government in Islamabad which failed miserably in handling the influx of refugees. Considering this yardstick, a military action in Waziristan to flush out foreign agent Baitullah Mehsud and his Indian/American/Afghan supported army is necessary but we might end up with a similar or probably even a worse situation. This article raises a central point: The original problem is not the sanctuaries inside Pakistan. It's the American failure to bring peace among all warring factions inside Afghanistan.

Abdolhamid Rigi
A senior member of the Jundullah terrorist group says that the group has been trained and financed by "the US and Zionists".

Abdolhamid Rigi, the brother of Jundullah leader Abdolmalek Rigi made the remarks in a court session held in the southeastern city of Zahedan on Wednesday.

Abdolhamid Rigi was among the thirteen members of the Jundullah who were accused of terrorist activities, Fars news agency reported.

Pakistani security forces arrested Abdolhamid last year and extradited him to Iran.
