Fearful electioneering turbo charges Western warmongering

Western political leaders are digging a deeper hole for their eventual collapse.

Western states are facing an acute political crisis whereby their established governing parties and leaders are fighting for survival amid a grave loss in legitimacy in the eyes of their electorates.

In the United States, incumbent President Joe Biden is vying for reelection in November with historically lowest poll numbers ever for an occupant of the White House.

Meanwhile, across the European Union, governing parties and leaders are braced for a drubbing from parliamentary elections in June.

The roots of this unprecedented loss of legitimacy among Western political establishments are manifold. But surely one cause is the rank hypocrisy of Western leaders that has now been laid bare. How can political figures expect to have any moral authority when they are seen to be inveterate liars and shamelessly corrupt?

Western governments and their servile media lecture about "democracy", "human rights" and upholding "law and order". They claim to be motivated by such principles in their support of Ukraine against alleged Russian aggression. Yet these same governments are complicit in the genocide of Palestinians in Gaza through their unwavering support for the Israeli regime.

Western leaders have been fatally exposed and compromised by the conflict in Ukraine and Gaza. The contradiction is terminal.

Comment: We may all be dumbfounded how quickly Biden's poll numbers resurrect from the 'dead'.

First fatal attack on shipping by Yemen's Houthi rebels escalates risk for reeling Mideast

The first fatal attack by Yemen's Houthi rebels on shipping threatens to further sever a crucial maritime artery for global trade and carries with it risks beyond those just at sea.

Already, the White House is warning that there will be a response to Wednesday's attack on the Barbados-flagged, Liberian-owned bulk carrier True Confidence in the Gulf of Aden. What that will look like remains unclear, but the U.S. has already launched round after round of airstrikes targeting the Houthis, a rebel group that has held Yemen's capital since 2014, and more are likely on the way.

However, a wider economic, humanitarian and political impact is looming from the attack. It also further highlights Yemen's years-long war, now overshadowed by Israel's grinding war on Hamas on the Gaza Strip that may reach into the holy Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, raising the danger of worsening regional anger.

Comment: AP also writes that three Red Sea data cables have been cut as Houthis launch more attacks. Israel boasts of being one of the most advanced high tech countries in the world, so despite the Houthi's denial, it seems an elegant and inexpensive way to hinder their enemy . . . .
Three cables under the Red Sea that provide global internet and telecommunications have been cut as the waterway remains a target of Yemen's Houthi rebels, officials said Monday. Meanwhile, a Houthi missile attack set a ship ablaze in the Gulf of Aden, but caused no injuries.

What cut the lines remains unclear. There has been concern about the cables being targeted in the Houthi campaign, which the rebels describe as an effort to pressure Israel to end its war on Hamas in the Gaza Strip. The Houthis have denied attacking the lines, however.

While global shipping has already been disrupted through the Red Sea, a crucial route for cargo and energy shipments from Asia and the Middle East to Europe, the sabotage of telecommunication lines could further escalate the monthslong crisis.

The cut lines include Asia-Africa-Europe 1, the Europe India Gateway, Seacom and TGN-Gulf, Hong Kong-based HGC Global Communications said. It described the cuts as affecting 25% of the traffic flowing through the Red Sea. It described the Red Sea route as crucial for data moving from Asia to Europe and said it had begun rerouting traffic.

[...]

In early February, Yemen's internationally recognized government in exile alleged that the Houthis planned to attack the cables. The lines appeared to have been cut on Feb. 24, with the organization NetBlocks noticing internet access in the East African nation of Djibouti suffering from interruptions two days later. Seacom serves Djibouti.

[..]

The Houthis insist their attacks will continue until Israel stops its combat operations in the Gaza Strip, which have enraged the wider Arab world and seen the Houthis gain international recognition.

The Biden doctrine in Gaza: bomb, starve, deceive

The White House unveils a new PR stunt for Gaza aid while hiding US arms transfers to Israel.

At his State of the Union address Thursday night, President Biden announced that the US military will install a temporary pier off the coast of Gaza to deliver emergency aid to the besieged enclave, where more than 2.2 million Palestinians face a humanitarian crisis, including starvation. The pier, which will take weeks if not months to complete, will be built by US soldiers.

The US, Biden claimed, "has been leading international efforts to get more humanitarian assistance into Gaza" and believes that "protecting and saving innocent lives has to be a priority."

In reality, the emergency project underscores Biden's real priority: to prolong Israel's rampage in Gaza, the US is even willing to deploy its own military for face-saving public relations stunts.

With criticism of Biden's Gaza complicity increasing inside the Democratic Party, and threatening him at the ballot box, the pier is the latest in a series of token gestures aimed at feigning concern for Gazans while providing unfettered support to the Israeli government that is indiscriminately attacking them.

Building alliances: Trump welcomes Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban to Mar-a-Lago resort

Former President Donald Trump met with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban at his Mar-a-Lago resort on Friday, an unconventional move since Orban did not meet with President Joe Biden during the trip.

Trump's presidential campaign claimed the pair met to discuss a "wide range of issues affecting Hungary and the United States, including the paramount importance of strong and secure borders to protect the sovereignty of each nation."

"He's a non-controversial figure because he says, 'This is the way it's going to be,' and that's the end of it. Right?" Trump said of the Hungarian prime minister in a video on Instagram. "He's the boss."

Comment: Ah, Viktor. Scourge of the woke and perennial thorn in the EU side. Long may you wave!

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez said Saturday that he will propose that Spain's parliament recognizes a Palestinian state.

"I will propose granting Spain's recognition to the Palestinian state," Sánchez said. "I do this out of moral conviction, for a just cause and because it is the only way that the two states, Israel and Palestine, can live together in peace."

Sánchez added his voice to a chorus of other European leaders and government officials who have said that they could support a two-state solution in the Middle East as international frustration grows with Israel's actions in the Palestinian territories.

Comment: It may be a bit premature to be considering how life will look 'afterwards', because Israel and the West seem appear intent on escalating the war of terror ever further:

US puppets: Kurds fear 'Afghanistan-style' withdrawal from Syria

Kurdish militia
The US military's Kurdish proxies occupying northeast Syria fear an "Afghanistan-like pullout" of US forces that would leave them at the mercy of their long-time enemy Turkiye, Middle East Eye (MEE) reported on 8 March.

Turkiye has escalated its airstrikes on areas in northeast Syria occupied by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in recent months; at the same time, Washington is in talks with the Iraqi government to potentially withdraw forces from Iraq.

The 900 US soldiers occupying northeast Syria with the SDF receive logistical support from US forces in Iraq. Any US withdrawal from Iraq may necessitate US withdrawal from Syria as well.

"The whole region is on fire and nobody will respond to Turkey's aggression against us when everyone is busy with Gaza. We have asked the US to rein in Turkey, but they have brushed us off," said Mahmoud Meslat, co-chair of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC), the political wing of the SDF.

In recent months, Turkiye has bombed power stations, the region's electric grid, medical facilities, and oil fields, leaving millions without electricity or access to clean drinking water.

Kurdish fears of being abandoned by the US remain despite a visit last week to northeast Syria by US General Erik Kurilla.

Comment: Anyone with two neurons firing could see that relying on the US would not be viable long term solution. The Kurdish forces chose to not learn from history, though there are abundant examples in recent history of the US dropping useful 'allies' when the situation proved convenient.

Comment: Yes, it was always just a sinister plan by the US to deprive Syria the resources for rebuilding while sowing seeds of division.
Vanessa Beeley gives a good background of the Kurds from different perspectives in this article from 2019 and still the same is the situation 5 years later. Background: A guide to Turkey, the Kurds and NATO

The Kurds were given many opportunities in the past by the Syrian government to come into the fold under favorable conditions to the Kurds, yet each time, the Kurds chose to listen to the sweet words from the US. This article highlights that, even if it is 5 years old: Syrian Kurds are not helpless victims: They gambled, and lost
It's one thing to defend your nation or territories, it's another to be greedy and feel like you're untouchable. The Kurds arrogantly denied any cooperation with the Syrian government and Russia and heavily relied on the US to defend them. They placed a bet that nobody can win. The US is well known for treating their proxies just as vassals who'll do the dirty work and then would be thrown in the graveyard of history when they become useless.

AI censorship targets people who read primary sources to fact-check the news

Artificial intelligence censorship tools are making sure you never read this article or share it with anyone it might persuade.

NewsGuard announced last week it's using AI to automatically prevent American citizens from seeing information online that challenges government and corporate media claims about elections ahead of the 2024 voting season.

"[P]latforms and search engines" including Microsoft's Bing use NewsGuard's "ratings" to stop people from seeing disfavored information sources, information, and topics in their social media feeds and online searches. Now censorship is being deployed not only by humans but also by automated computer code, rapidly raising an Iron Curtain around internet speech.

'The West thought Putin would be easily defeated, but that was not so. Trend is now for all out militarization' - Serbia's Vucic

The Western countries are building up their military potential and pursuing a policy of total militarization in an attempt to defeat Russia, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has said.

"What is happening now is madness. They all thought that [Russian President Vladimir] Putin would be easily defeated. Now they see that this is not so," Vucic said. "The current trend is toward total militarization and a five-fold build-up in all respects," he told the media while visiting the Belgrade Military Technical Institute and inspecting armaments on display.

The Serbian leader together with Defense Minister Milos Vucevic inspected new weapons of the Serbian Armed Forces. He noted the importance of increasing the production of UAVs and other weapons.

Israel accused of torturing UN workers to obtain false testimony about UNRWA and Hamas

A recent UNRWA document says its staff report having been tortured while detained by Israeli forces, who pressed them to provide false statements about ties between the agency and Hamas.

"The document said several UNRWA Palestinian staffers had been detained by the Israeli army, and added that the ill-treatment and abuse they said they had experienced included severe physical beatings, waterboarding, and threats of harm to family members," Reuters reports, saying UNRWA workers "reported having been pressured by Israeli authorities into falsely stating that the agency has Hamas links and that staff took part in the Oct. 7 attacks."

This is another one of those stories about Israeli offenses that are so stunning that at first you can mistakenly believe you must not be reading it correctly — especially since the western political-media class haven't been treating it like the jarring news that it is. If we had anything remotely like an objective news media in the western world, reports that Israel tortured United Nations staff to get them to make false statements against a UN aid agency would be the top story everywhere for days.
