McEnany pummels Jim Acosta with facts regarding the right police have to defend themselves

During a briefing Wednesday afternoon, White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany explained to reporters, specifically CNN's Jim Acosta, that the police and other law enforcement officers have the right to defend themselves. Her comments came after the Trump administration was accused of having "peaceful protestors" tear gassed and physically removed from Lafayette Park on Monday evening.

"No tear gas was used and no rubber bullets were used," McEnany explained. "No-one was tear gassed, let me make that clear. That's been confirmed by DOD and Park Services as well."

"Let me go back and address what happened, there has been a lot of misreporting," she continued. "The protestors were told three times over loud speaker that they needed to move and what happened was it grew increasingly unruly, there were projectiles being thrown at officers, frozen water bottles were being thrown at officers, various other projectiles and the offers had no other choice than in that moment to act and make sure that they were safe and that the perimeter was pushed back because as we all know a church was burning in that very area the night before so the appropriate action was taken...It's absolutely uncalled for to throw bricks. Absolutely uncalled for to throw water bottles that are frozen at police officers."

The UN rights chief on Wednesday decried "structural racism" in the United States, and voiced alarm at the "unprecedented assault" on journalists covering protests across the country after George Floyd's death in custody. Michelle Bachelet insisted that the grievances at the heart of the protests that have erupted in hundreds of US cities needed to be heard and addressed if the country was to move forward.

"The voices calling for an end to the killings of unarmed African Americans need to be heard. The voices calling for an end to police violence need to be heard. And the voices calling for an end to the endemic and structural racism that blights US society need to be heard."

Her comments came as thousands across the United States defied curfews for another night of rallies against police racism following the death of Floyd, an unarmed African American who stopped breathing as a police officer was filmed kneeling on his neck.

Bachelet stressed the need for clear and constructive leadership to bring the country through the crisis.

"Especially during a crisis, a country needs its leaders to condemn racism unequivocally; for them to reflect on what has driven people to boiling point; to listen and learn; and to take actions that truly tackle inequalities."

Comment: "The glaring inequalities" have always been present. The history of humanity is chock-full of 'haves' and 'have nots', prides and prejudices. Lamentation and condemnation have never fixed it. Subdue the population without warning, add fear and repercussions, take away freedoms, destroy livelihoods, abolish social contact and, in doing so, crash the economy. There will be pushback and emotional reactions - a calculated component of the scheme. But 'the people' didn't deliver bricks to street corners, nor did they 'seek to enrage' by purposefully misrepresenting and twisting the truth. So far, Bachelet is fanning the flames of her own conceit. What is her plan?

The US Federal Reserve's balance sheet could skyrocket to more than $9 trillion by the end of this year, amid massive interventions to shield the economy from the coronavirus pandemic, according to the Financial Times.

RT's Keiser Report looks at the chart, showing that in 2007 there was "barely anything" on the Fed's balance sheet. "The crisis hit in 2008 and you see the injustice of bankers getting bailed out when the rest of the economy was getting nothing," says Stacy Herbert.

Max Keiser says: "We know almost without doubt that it is going to over $20 trillion, it is going to go to $23-25 trillion and higher. We know that right now, that's not even up for debate."

He explains that "in 2008 the economy died and the only thing left was to print money to support the centillionaire class, and the only play left is to buy their stocks for them. That's it, that's all we got left."

Former MI6 boss says coronavirus began 'as an accident' in Chinese lab

A former head of MI6 believes the Covid-19 pandemic "started as an accident" when the virus escaped from a Chinese lab.

In an interview with The Telegraph, Sir Richard Dearlove said he had seen an "important" new scientific report which suggests that the virus did not emerge naturally.

"I do think that this started as an accident," Sir Richard said.

"It raises the issue, if China ever were to admit responsibility, does it pay reparations? I think it will make every country in the world rethink how it treats its relationship with China and how the international community behaves towards the Chinese leadership."

Sir Richard cited new research produced by Professor Angus Dalgleish, of St George's Hospital at the University of London, and the Norwegian virologist Birger Sorensen.

In their paper, they claim to have identified "inserted sections placed on the SARS-CoV-2 Spike surface".

"The SARS-CoV-2 spike is significantly different from any other Sars that we have studied," the paper says.

Sir Richard described the study as "a very important contribution to a debate which is now starting about how the virus evolved and how it got out and broke out as a pandemic", adding: "I think this particular article is very important, and I think it will shift the debate."

But the Americans and British only have an interest in blaming China. Just like China only has an interest in blaming the USA. So don't expect the full truth to come from either party.

Barr discussed the federal response to unrest around the country.

Attorney General William Barr said Thursday that the the federal government has evidence that the radical left-wing antifa movement as well as other extremist groups have "hijacked" legitimate protests around the country to incite violence, and said certain "foreign actors" are seizing on the unrest to sow discord in the U.S.

"While many have peacefully expressed their anger and grief, others have hijacked protests to engage in lawlessness, violent rioting, arson, looting of businesses, and public property assaults on law enforcement officers and innocent people, and even the murder of a federal agent," Barr said. "We have evidence that antifa and other similar extremist groups, as well as actors of a variety of different political persuasions have been involved in instigating and participating in the violent activity.

Barr added, "we are also seeing foreign actors playing all sides to exacerbate the violence."

Why is anybody surprised to see the racial extortion, lawless rioting, and selfish looting in the streets of America's big cities today — all in the name of an unarmed black man named George Floyd, who died in police custody last week?

There is a whole political party in America today that is entirely built upon such racial exploitation.

Democratic Party leaders in Washington do not actually care about the hardships of blacks in America today. They simply want to weaponize those hardships into votes year after year after year.

Or, as one major Democrat in South Carolina famously said: "I don't want to buy the black vote. I just want to rent it for a day." That "day" being Election Day. They can all go back to their misery all the other days of the year.

Like President Trump said: "What have you got to lose?"

There are moments when an entire nation can feel a sense of collective awkwardness, if not embarrassment. That very thing happened in Canada and lasted for 21 excruciating seconds.

During a press conference on Tuesday, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stood stiff and stoic, struggling to answer a reporter's question about Canada's response to US President Donald Trump's threats to send in the military to deal with the anti-police-brutality protests that have erupted all over America.

It was only a few painfully audible mouth clicks that let viewers know it was Trudeau who had frozen, and not their internet. The PM broke the pause by mouthing a few predictable platitudes about how Canadians were watching the chaos unfolding in the US "with horror", but failed to condemn the brutal crackdown by the police or Trump's calls to use the military against his own population.

Will he or won't he? Will Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu make good on his vow to annex the Jordan Valley and West Bank settlements, some thirty percent of the Palestinian territories Israel occupies, starting in early July, or will he heed the warnings of world leaders and stick to the status quo, which they support: creeping, de facto annexation?

Ambassadors to Israel from the European Union (EU) and a dozen member states have warned that annexation would spell an end to the 'Two-State Solution', something they insist is not dead, and that's essential to regional "peace and security." So have EU heavyweights Angela Merkel and Boris Johnson, who even invoked the 'A-Word'. "What we are saying is that you have to have a two-state solution or else you have a kind of apartheid system," Johnson warned, in a 2017 conversation with the Jerusalem Post.

In contrast, Canada's Justin Trudeau - avowed champion of the "rules-based international order" in other situations (e.g. Russia's annexation of Crimea) — has been slow off the mark. Fifty former Canadian diplomats and Foreign Affairs ministers, leading church groups and Canadian Friends of Peace Now urged him to do so. Finally, on June 2, in the midst of a media conference on Covid-19 and American unrest, someone popped the question.

Democratic New York Rep. Eliot Engel was caught on a hot mic Tuesday appearing to admit that he only cared about speaking at a press conference on the George Floyd protests because he has a primary opponent.

Local officials held a press conference Tuesday after rioters and looters ransacked New York City on Monday night. The press conference livestream appears to show Engel asking to speak at the event before telling a local official: "If I didn't have a primary I wouldn't care."

Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. asked Engel to repeat himself, and the congressman obliged. "If I didn't have a primary I wouldn't care," Engel repeated.

"Don't do that to me," Diaz responded.

Australian researchers query origin of data used for Lancet study, but stress there is no evidence drug is a safe or effective treatment

Comment: Trust the Guardian to lead off an article with a straight-up lie. There is a plethora of evidence that hydroxychloroquine, especially when combined with zinc and an antibiotic have had spectacular success in curing Covid.

Questions have been raised by Australian infectious disease researchers about a study published in the Lancet which prompted the World Health Organization to halt global trials of the drug hydroxychloroquine to treat Covid-19.

The study published on Friday found Covid-19 patients who received the malaria drug were dying at higher rates and experiencing more heart-related complications than other virus patients. The large observational study analysed data from nearly 15,000 patients with Covid-19 who received the drug alone or in combination with antibiotics, comparing this data with 81,000 controls who did not receive the drug.

The findings prompted researchers from around the world to reassess their own clinical trials of the drug for preventing and treating Covid-19. The World Health Organization halted all its trials involving hydroxychloroquine due to the concerns raised in the study about its efficacy and safety. It was once viewed as among the most promising medicines to treat the virus, though no study to date has found this to be the case, and the drug can have toxic side-effects. The Australian Department of Health had been stockpiling millions of doses of the drug in case clinical trials found it proved useful.

UPDATE June 3: The WHO has said that clinical trials using hydroxychloroquine as treatment for Covid will resume, after being paused due to questionable research by the US firm. There will be no modification of the clinical trial of the drug as experts advised the continuation of "all arms" of the so-called Solidarity trial, including hydroxychloroquine. According to Reuters, a WHO expert said trials of the drug will continue until there is a "definitive" answer on whether or not it works.
