'Community of Destiny': Russia & China take huge steps towards breaking the US' stranglehold on oil prices

Somebody means business.

Russia has just taken significant steps that will break the present Wall Street oil price monopoly, at least for a huge part of the world oil market. The move is part of a longer-term strategy of decoupling Russia's economy and especially its very significant export of oil, from the US dollar, today the Achilles Heel of the Russian economy.

Later in November the Russian Energy Ministry has announced that it will begin test-trading of a new Russian oil benchmark. While this might sound like small beer to many, it's huge. If successful, and there is no reason why it won't be, the Russian crude oil benchmark futures contract traded on Russian exchanges, will price oil in rubles and no longer in US dollars. It is part of a de-dollarization move that Russia, China and a growing number of other countries have quietly begun.

The setting of an oil benchmark price is at the heart of the method used by major Wall Street banks to control world oil prices. Oil is the world's largest commodity in dollar terms. Today, the price of Russian crude oil is referenced to what is called the Brent price. The problem is that the Brent field, along with other major North Sea oil fields is in major decline, meaning that Wall Street can use a vanishing benchmark to leverage control over vastly larger oil volumes. The other problem is that the Brent contract is controlled essentially by Wall Street and the derivatives manipulations of banks like Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, JP MorganChase and Citibank.

Comment: In 2015 Russia put Washington's imperial conquests in a major bind, and woke much of the globe up to the West's genocide in the Middle East and North Africa. And in 2016 the push to end Washington's stranglehold on the world continues. Buckle in!

Haves or Have-nots: New US House bill undermines Obama, JCPOA

Chairman of the Iranian Parliament's Committee on National Security and Foreign Policy, Alaeddin Boroujerdi
A senior Iranian lawmaker says possible adoption of new sanctions against Iran by the US will harm a nuclear agreement reached between Tehran and the P5+1 group of countries last July.

The US is creating obstacles in the way of implementing the nuclear agreement, dubbed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), to express its dissatisfaction with its absence in Iran's markets, Chairman of the Iranian Parliament (Majlis) Committee on National Security and Foreign Policy, Alaeddin Boroujerdi, said on Friday. The US sought to advance its own economic interests in the JCPOA but we are witnessing in practice that the United States has been denied the chance for presence in Iran's markets, Boroujerdi added.

In a letter to Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on October 21, 2015, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei enumerated certain points on the implementation of the JCPOA and issued directives to be heeded in that regard, among them the government's duty to check the imports of goods from the US.

Congress to vote on fresh new sanctions

The Foreign Affairs Committee in the US House of Representatives on Thursday approved a bill that would limit President Barack Obama's ability to lift anti-Iran sanctions as stipulated in the JCPOA. The bill is designed to prevent the removal of certain Iranian individuals and financial institutions from the US Treasury Department's sanctions list, until Obama assures Congress that they were not involved in Iran's ballistic missiles program or alleged terrorist activities.

Comment: According to the US House of Reprehensibles: Iran is guilty until proven innocent.

Britain is complicit in U.S. and Saudi's high crimes against Yemen

Yemen

Make no mistake. Yemen is Obama's war, planned, orchestrated and initiated in Washington, using Riyadh and other rogue regional states to do his dirty work.

On January 7, Britain's Sky News headlined "Exclusive: UK Helping Saudi's Yemen Campaign" - allied with Washington, complicit in high crimes against peace.

Yemenis are being mass slaughtered, civilians harmed most, indiscriminately targeted.

Britain already supplies Riyadh with terror weapons. "Sky sources confirmed that six (UK) experts are working with Saudi targeteers who select locations for attack" - including residential areas, schools, hospitals, refugee camps, food storage areas, mosques and other nonmilitary sites.

US flouts international law (again), supplies Saudia Arabia with cluster bombs to use in Yemen

The Gulf Affairs Institute Director comments on the United States supplying cluster bombs to the Saudi armed forces.

The United States has inflicted thousands of deaths and other casualties in Yemen through its supply of cluster bombs to the Saudi armed forces in violation of the laws of war, Gulf Affairs Institute Director Ali al-Ahmed told Sputnik.
"The US role in Yemen is making a sham of international law. It is an exercise in hypocrisy," al-Ahmed said on Friday. "It was clear from the beginning that the United States was involved in the war in Yemen. They haven't found any way to justify this role."
US policymakers had claimed that they we replaying a restraining role on Saudi military operations against its much smaller neighbor, but this was the opposite of the truth, al-Ahmed insisted.
"They claim the US involvement is justified by reducing casualties, but instead US empowerment and support of Saudi Arabia is allowing Riyadh to inflict more civilian casualties in Yemen, not less. In other words, you throw fire and claim you are doing so to minimize the fire."
.The role of the United States in supplying weapons such as cluster bombs that are being used against a civilian population is a clear violation of international law, the professor pointed out.

Comment: A regime as ruthless as Saudi Arabia would have no problem employing such hideous weapons against a civilian population

Germany has carried out its first reconnaissance mission from a Turkish air base as part of the US-led coalition against Islamic State. The first flights took place more than a month after Berlin approved its largest foreign military mission abroad.

Two of the 30-year old German Tornado jets armed with surveillance equipment took off from NATO's airbase in Incirlik at 9:32am Central European Time for a three hour long mission over Iraq and Syria.

Comment: Question is will Germany share this intelligence data with Russia?

More military flexing: North Korea demonstrates new submarine ballistic missile test

Kim Jong Un
© Washington Free Beacon / YouTube
North Korea has released a video showing what the country claims to be a successful submarine-launched ballistic missile test last month. It comes two days after Pyongyang claimed to have tested its newly developed miniaturized hydrogen bomb.

As part of an almost an hour long package into N. Korean military preparedness, the Korean Central Television showcased a segment of a ballistic missile launch carried out from a submarine on December 21. The video showed North Korean leader Kim Jong Un observing the launch, as the missile cleared the clouds.

Comment: Meanwhile Seoul claims this missile launch was faked:
South Korean military believes Pyongyang fabricated a new video showing a test of a submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM), local media reported Saturday.

On Friday, North Korea's Central Television network broadcast the video of the launch, allegedly conducted in December.

"We consider a video published by North Korea of a SLBM launch fabricated," a South Korean Defense Ministry representative said, as quoted by the Yonhap news agency.

Killary's latest batch of emails: Benghazi, the White House and private accounts

Hillary Clinton
While the US public may be bored of Hillary Clinton's "damn emails," as her rival Bernie Sanders put it, the latest batch of messages - released in the dead of night - offers tantalizing glimpses into what the former secretary of state knew, and when.

In a second breach of a court-mandated deadline, the State Department published the most recent collection of Clinton's emails at 1:39 a.m. ET (06:39 GMT) on Friday. The approximately 2,900 pages, representing 1,262 messages, were released in the same format as the New Year's Eve release, with none of the documents searchable by sender, recipient or subject.

Foggy Bottom offered no explanation as to why the release was delayed from Thursday evening, as originally scheduled, to the dead of night on Friday.

While the previous releases contained unintentionally humorous material about printing all emails and struggles with the fax machine, this round of messages revealed how Clinton dealt with mistakes by her staff, policy suggestions and family members contacting her during the Benghazi crisis.
