Ex-DOJ lawyer under Obama pleads guilty to stealing federal lawsuits and attempting to get money for them

doj corrupt
A former senior prosecutor at the Department of Justice who served in President Barack Obama's administration has been busted for trying to sell highly-classified lawsuits brought by whistleblowers to the entities of the pending investigations.

Jeffrey Wertkin, a senior official in Obama's administration under former Attorney General Loretta Lynch, stole documents prior to leaving the DOJ in April 2016 with the intent to sell them for personal gain - which is a felony.

Wertkin then took the stolen, highly-classified documents with him to a politically-connected law firm in Washington, D.C., where he was offered a job.

When he began at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld, Wertkin tried to sell the sealed complaints to high-paying clients.

Comment: This cruder form of governmental corruption pretty much describes half of Washington in one way or another.

At least 8 killed, over 20 injured as US helicopters attack Iraqi security forces convoy

On January 27, a unit of Iraqi security forces was attacked by US-led coalition helicopters, according to the Iraqi Army Military Media Cell.

The source said that the unit was attacked by the US-led coalition when it was on its way back to its base after finishing its mission - to capture a commander of ISIS "Karim Afat Ali al-Samarad" in the town of al-Baghdadi in the western al-Anbar province,

The Iraqi side didn't provide any information on why the accident happened. However, the Military Media Cell hinted that a lack of coordination between the Iraqi security forces and the US-led coalition might have been the main reason.

Comment: Speaking in an exclusive interview with Arabic-language al-Sabah al-Jadid daily newspaper, Chairman of Anbar Provincial Security Council Naeem al-Kaoud said security forces and volunteer fighters, commonly known as Hashd al-Shaabi, cleansed over 80 percent of Anbar desert areas of the extremists following multi-pronged military operations there.
"The troops also destroyed several ISIL hotbeds and remotely detonated four armored vehicles, which were used by the militant group," he added.

Kaoud went on to say that ten more people were also arrested on suspicion of joining ISIL terror group.

"Although the militants hotbeds were built underground, the troops were able to destroy them after receiving intelligence reports on their locations," the senior security official pointed out.

"The military operation, backed by the Iraqi Air Force, comes as part of ongoing efforts to eliminate ISIL militants on the country's borders with Saudi Arabia and Jordan," Kaoud noted.

The Bull in Glenn Simpson's Russia Shop: Intel for 'Russigate dossier' almost certainly came from CIA

Fusion
In criminal trials the rule for prosecuting and defending lawyers is the same. Never ask a witness a question unless you already know the answer. The corollary rule for defending lawyers is - if the answer to your question will incriminate your client, don't ask it, and hope the prosecutor fails to do his job.

Glenn Simpson, a former employee of the Wall Street Journal in New York, is currently on trial in the US for having fabricated a dossier of allegations of Russian misconduct (bribes, sex, blackmail, hacking) involving President Donald Trump and circulating them to the press; the objective was to damage Trump's candidacy before the election of November 8, 2016. Simpson was called to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee on August 22, 2017; then the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence on November 8, and again on November 14, 2017. So far, Simpson's veracity and business conduct face nothing more than the court of public opinion. He has not yet been charged with criminal or civil offences. That will happen if the evidence materializes that Simpson has been lying.

Simpson's collaborator in the dossier and his business partner, Christopher Steele, is facing trial in the London High Court, charged with libels he and Simpson published in their dossier. Together, they are material witnesses in two federal US court trials for defamation, one in Miami and one in New York. If they perjure themselves giving evidence in those cases, they are likely to face criminal indictments. If they tell the truth, they are likely to face fresh defamation proceedings; perhaps a civil racketeering suit for fraud; maybe a false statement prosecution under the US criminal code.

Earlier this week, the Iranian security and intelligence forces seized two large caches of explosives and powerful bombs belonging to separatist terrorist groups.

Comment: IRGC Deputy Commander: Iran Riots Stirred by MKO
"The fiercest clashes occurred in the town of Toyserkan (Western Iran) and a number of people were killed, including two who had been killed during a raid on a jail and they have not been identified yet. The leaders and those who provoked people for protests in the town were Monafeqin (hypocrites, as MKO members are called in Iran) and they had come from other cities in a bid to avoid identification; some of them were identified and captured as they had long been in the wanted list" since the Iraqi-imposed war against Iran (1980-1988) during which the MKO cooperated with former Iraqi dictator Saddam, General Sanayee Raad said on Saturday.

He added that a number of MKO members were also arrested in Kermanshah and Shiraz as they were provoking people to chant anti-government slogans and take part in riots.

General Sanayee Raad also revealed that the US plots and the money spent by the Saudi regime organized the recent riots in Iran.

Late in December, a number of peaceful protests began in several areas across the country, with the participants calling on authorities to address their economic issues.

Russian presidential aide Vladislav Surkov
The "Dubai Package" of the U.S. suggestions on deploying a UN mission in Ukraine's southeast looks quite doable, Russia will study it and will give a response in due course, Russia's presidential aide, Vladislav Surkov, said after a meeting with the U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine Kurt Volker on Saturday.

"The talks' key topic was once again a discussion of the Russian initiative to deploy in Ukraine's southeast a UN mission," Surkov said. "This time, the U.S. has brought more constructive suggestions. The U.S. "Dubai Package", unlike the "Belgrade" suggestions, seems quite doable, at least at first glance."

"The main part there is a rather detailed plan of a step-by-step deployment of a mission along with implementation of the Minsk agreements' political items. It is a balanced approach, on which we have insisted," he continued. "We shall study it closely and will give a response in due course. After that, we shall invite Kurt and his colleagues to a new meeting."

WH cancels rollout of immigration plan as Schumer demands more concessions

The White House has canceled their planned meeting with lawmakers to roll out their immigration "framework" that gives U.S. citizenship to at least 1.8 million illegal aliens, as Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer demands more concessions from the administration.

A statement from pro-open borders Sen. Dick Durbin's (D-IL) office revealed that White House advisers - including Gen. John Kelly, former Koch brothers executive Marc Short, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Kirstjen Nielsen, and senior adviser Stephen Miller - have canceled their Monday rollout of the amnesty package.

DHS spokesperson Tyler Houlton, though, called the canceled rollout a "scheduling issue," saying that the canceling was not due to other reasons.

Get rid of Nancy Pelosi: impose term limits.
The White House announced on Thursday its offer of what it wants in exchange for granting a pathway to citizenship for 1.8 million illegal aliens who came to the U.S. as minors.

An end to chain migration, $25 billion for border wall funding and the elimination of the diversity visa lottery are the demands the Trump administration expect to be met in order to earn the president's approval for a legislative fix to the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

Giving amnesty to 1.8 million illegal immigrants seems like President Trump is willing to concede a lot to Democrats in Congress in order to build the wall and make serious reforms to immigration policy.

But in spite of the major concession on the part of the White House, Democrats and left-wing activists are treating the offer as a "legislative burning cross."

"This isn't a counter offer; it's a legislative burning cross. This isn't an offer of someone who wants to get to a deal - it's attempting to use the DREAMers as pawns to change the entire legal immigration system and get every item on Stephen Miller's white supremacist wish list," immigration activist Eddie Vale said of the deal.

A former Department of Justice appointee under former President Barack Obama said special counsel Robert Mueller "almost certainly won't indict" President Donald Trump at the conclusion of his investigation.

Eric Columbus, former senior counsel to the deputy attorney general under Obama, explained on Twitter why we should not expect any criminal charges against Trump, despite a growing chorus of pundits and Democratic politicians predicting that Mueller is building an obstruction of justice case.

Palestinian ambassador Husam Zomlot reveals details about Trump's meetings with Abbas, accuses the U.S. of 'backstabbing'

Head of the Palestinian Mission in DC speaking at the Middle East Institute in Washington DC, January 25, 2018
The head of the Palestinian Mission to the United States accused President Donald Trump of "backstabbing" President Mahmoud Abbas in a talk yesterday, deepening a dispute over who is to blame for failure of a peace deal with Israel. That morning Trump said Palestinian leaders had abandoned pre-talk discussions, making the claim while seated next to Israel's Benjamin Netanyahu in Davos at the World Economic Forum. Trump called Netanyahu a "close personal friend," which served as a reminder to the Palestinians which side the administration has been on.

Hours later Palestinian Ambassador Husam Zomlot took the stage in Washington DC at the Middle East Institute, presenting an altogether different narrative: the Palestinians were bystanders to internal divisions within the Trump administration that prevented peace talks from starting months ago.

It was "the Americans who blocked the Americans" from kick-starting negotiations with Israel, not the Palestinians, Zomlot said, revealing confidential discussions between the Trump and Abbas that took place last year. From the first sit-down between the two presidents in May 2017 until December, the Palestinian leadership had been "nagging" Trump to begin direct talks with Israel, he said.

The rupture in relations between the Trump administration and the Palestinian leadership started on December 6, 2017 when Trump recognized Jerusalem as Israel's capital, "unilaterally," Zomlot pointed.
