Turkish troops take control of Bursayah hill, which separates the Kurdish-held enclave of Afrin from the Turkey-controlled town of Azaz, Syria, Sunday, Jan. 28, 2018
Earlier on Monday, the Haberturk broadcaster said 90 US military personnel had arrived in the province of Sanliurfa and had been delivered to the centre's premises in the town of Akcakale on the border with Syria. US troops were flown to Turkey's Sanliurfa Province and taken to the border city of Akcakale, the channel said.

The Turkish Defense Ministry has confirmed the arrival of six US military personnel who will be involved in the work of the coordination centre for joint operations and the planned security zone in northern Syria.

Comment: Sputnik further reported:
"The safe zone in Syria should extend 30-40 kilometres depthward from the Turkish border. This is exactly in this direction that we expect steps to be made [by the United States]", Akar said, as aired by NTV broadcaster.

He added that Turkey was ready to create the safe zone solo as well.

"We have plans B and C", Akar stressed.

Ankara and Washington have recently reached agreement on creating the safe zone at Syria's border with Turkey and a centre to coordinate joint operations. Turkey stated that it wanted a safe zone an average 30-40 km to the south of its border with Syria, east of the Euphrates River, that would be controlled by Turkey in coordination with the United States and be completely cleared of the PKK and YPG, whom it views as a single organisation and regards as terrorists. Ankara warned that that should the two sides fail to reach an understanding on the matter, Turkey will establish the safe zone unilaterally.

Last week, President Erdogan warned that Turkey will launch an operation east of the Euphrates River in Syria 'very soon', despite the US calls to avoid any unilateral action.

Meanwhile, Damascus opposes the decision, qualifying this as a violation both of Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and of international law.

The territory in the east of the Euphrates is currently controlled by the self-defence forces, which mainly include Kurdish-led militants.

For years, Turkey has launched operations against the Kurds in the south-east of the country as well as in the northern parts of Iraq and Syria. The major crackdown on the Kurdish militias started in Turkey in 2015 and resulted in massive casualties, including the death of civilians.
This has been Turkey's goal since at least 2016, with incursions into Syria on a regular basis, in the name of 'security' (sounds just like Israel, yes?) Needless to say, Syria is not happy, viewing the action as another land grab by another hostile nation (again, cue Israel and the Golan Heights):

Cavusoglu: Create US-Turkish safe zone to eliminate Kurds. Syria calls it 'flagrant aggression' and interference

Minister calls for Epstein's French connections to be probed despite prison death

Sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein's connections in France need to be investigated by the nation's law enforcement, the French minister for gender equality said. Epstein died in US custody last week by alleged suicide.

The US investigation into Epstein's alleged sexual abuses of minors was undermined by the disgraced financier's death in a US jail. But it uncovered enough evidence involving France that merit a national investigation, Gender Equality Minister Marlène Schiappa said in a statement on Monday. Such a probe would be "fundamental for the victims" and will also help prevent sexual predation in the future, she argued.

Comment: The online outlet Jezabel wrote in 2010:
These accounts from Michael Gross' 1995 book Model describe Brunel's activities in Paris from the late 1970s onwards, when he worked for, and eventually owned, the modeling agency Karins, now known as Karin Paris:
"Jean-Luc is considered a danger," says Jérôme Bonnouvrier. "Owning Karins was a dream for a playboy. His problem is that he knows exactly what girls in trouble are looking for. He's always been on the edge of the system. John Casablancas gets with girls the healthy way. Girls would be with him if he was the butcher. They're with Jean-Luc because he's the boss. Jean-Luc likes drugs and silent rape. It excites him."

"I really despise Jean-Luc as a human being for the way he's cheapened the business," says John Casablancas. "There is no justice. This is a guy who should be behind bars. There was a little group, Jean-Luc, Patrick Gilles, and Varsano...They were very well-known in Paris for roaming the clubs. They would invite girls and put drugs in their drinks. Everybody knew they were creeps."
It should be noted that aside from being a professional rival, Casablancas, the founder of the agency Elite, was eventually drubbed out of the industry for his own modelizing. How pervy do you have to be for John Casablancas to call you a perv?

Pervy enough to drug and rape numerous teenagers, according to 60 Minutes and Diane Sawyer, who investigated Brunel in 1988. The program interviewed nearly two dozen models who said they had been sexually assaulted by Brunel and/or by his fellow agent, Claude Haddad. Even at that time, Brunel had a reputation as a man one could go to to procure a "date" with a young model. CBS spoke to five models who said that Brunel and/or his friends had drugged and raped them. Said producer Craig Pyes, "Hundreds of girls were not only harassed, but molested."

When Gross interviewed Brunel, this is what he had to say for himself:
"You get laid tonight with a model, is that a crime? I don't understand why people go into your personal life, what you do yourself, and to yourself, and they don't look at things that are really important."
Since then, Brunel has been involved with a succession of agencies in New York and Paris. Although the 60 Minutes scandal eventually led Eileen Ford to stop working with him, he continued his involvement with Karins. In 1988, when powerhouse agency Next opened its doors, Brunel took an ownership stake. He also "discovered" Christy Turlington when she was 14. MC2 is only his latest venture. Because no criminal charges were ever filed by any of his accusers, and because the industry has a short memory — most models working today weren't even born when Sawyer and Pyes started looking into Brunel's activities — Brunel has been free to continue as he pleases. A French citizen, he even avoided testifying in his friend Epstein's trial.

And so Brunel is still criss-crossing the globe, trawling for 5'10" 13-year-olds from Eastern Europe and (the whiter parts of) South America. And apparently taking the occasional ride with them on Epstein's private jet. Is there any better argument for the regulation of the modeling industry?

Durham and Graham obtained deposition of Clinton 'dirt' tipster Joseph Mifsud - Western, not Russian agent

Maltese academic Joseph Mifsud during a meeting in Washington, on Nov. 12, 2014.
U.S. Attorney John Durham and Sen. Lindsey Graham, leading separate inquiries into the origins of the Trump-Russia investigation, have obtained an audio deposition of Joseph Mifsud, the mysterious Maltese academic who claimed Russia had "dirt" on Hillary Clinton.

The revelation about Mifsud came from The Hill's John Solomon, who spoke with Sean Hannity on Fox News last Thursday. Solomon's widely reported bombshell last week was that Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz had criminally referred former FBI James Comey to the DOJ because of his alleged leaking of classified information in his memos and a lack of candor with investigators, but the DOJ declined prosecution.

But this tidbit about Mifsud made fewer headlines.

Special counsel Robert Mueller's 448-page report, released in April with redactions, stated Mifsud traveled to Moscow in April 2016, after which he met George Papadopoulos in London. Mueller's report said that during this meeting, Mifsud informed Papadopoulos he learned the Russians had "dirt" on Clinton in the form of "thousands of emails." Papadopoulos later repeated this claim to Australian diplomat Alexander Downer, who informed the U.S. government and prompted the original counterintelligence investigation into Trump's campaign in 2016.

Mifsud's alleged attorney Stephan Roh said in late July that Durham intended to interview Mifsud. He said that if an interview failed to pan out, Durham's team at least wanted to view a recorded deposition Mifsud gave in 2018 on his role in the Trump-Russia controversy. Roh said he would provide at least one page of the deposition to Durham's investigators.

Solomon told Hannity that Durham's team "obtained an audiotaped deposition of Joseph Mifsud, where he describes his work, why he targeted Papadopoulos, who directed him to do that, what directions he was given, and why he set that entire process of introducing George Papadopoulos to Russia in motion in March of 2016."

Comment: Mifsud was widely accused of being a Russian agent. That's what made it relevant, and what brought Papadopoulos down. He was ensnared in a 'Russian op'. But it was never a Russian op. Mifsud was working for Western intelligence. Russiagate was never about Russia. That's the lie the American and world publics were sold. And there are still many simple-minded folks who believe it.

William Barr has a message for Jeffrey Epstein's co-conspirators

Bill Barr

Attorney General William Barr
Attorney General William Barr said Monday that he was "appalled" by Jeffrey Epstein's apparent suicide over the weekend, but urged that the millionaire pedophile's co-conspirators "should not rest easy."

"This sex trafficking case was very important to the Department of Justice and to me personally," Barr said during a speech before the National Fraternal Order of Police in New Orleans.

"Let me assure you that this case will continue on against anyone who was complicit with Epstein. Any co-conspirators should not rest easy."

Complete list of Clinton associates who allegedly (and conveniently) died mysteriously or committed suicide before testimony - including Jeffrey Epstein

Clinton Epstein
On Saturday multimillionaire Jeffrey Epstein, the highest profile prisoner in US custody, was found dead in his prison cell in Manhattan.

This occurred the day after two thousand previously sealed court documents involving the Jeffrey Epstein child sex abuse case were released to the public.

The documents described how Bill Clinton held a private party on Jeffrey Epstein's pedophile island.

Clinton made at least 27 times trips on Jeffrey Epstein's private plane. Most of those flights were with underage girls.

Despite a previous attempt on his life just three weeks ago the prison guards skipped the 30 minute required checks on Epstein's cell last night.

Early this morning they found him dead.

Jeffrey Epstein is the latest in a long list of Clinton family associates and acquaintances who died mysteriously or committed suicide before their public testimony.

In 2016 CBS Las Vegas posted a list of Bill and Hillary Clinton associates alleged to have died under mysterious circumstances.

Here is that list.

Comment: That's obviously quite the list - and quite probably the reason why the Clintons have been able to evade justice after so many decades of documented high-level crime. Imagine the looks on the faces of their clueless supporters who still think that Hillary was deserving of the presidency if they understood the ramifications of the above list.

Heavily-armed man attempts to shoot up Norwegian mosque with same name as target in Christchurch massacre

Al-Noor Mosque Oslo

Al-Noor Mosque in Oslo, Norway (not to be confused with the Al-Noor Mosque in Christchurch, New Zealand)
The shooting at a mosque near Oslo is being treated as an "attempted act of terror", Norwegian police said Sunday, with the suspect appearing to harbour far-right, anti-immigrant views.

"We are looking at an attempted act of terror," acting chief of the police operation Rune Skjold told a press conference.

Skjold said the investigation had shown that the man appeared to hold "far-right" and "anti-immigrant" views.

The suspect entered the al-Noor Islamic Centre on Saturday afternoon armed with multiple weapons and opened fire before being overpowered by a man who suffered "minor injuries" in the process.

Only three people were inside the mosque at the time of the attack, and police said they recovered two firearms from the scene but did not specify which type.

Norway was the scene of one of the worst-ever attacks by a right-wing extremist in July 2011, when 77 people were killed by Anders Behring Breivik.

Comment: About 150,000 of them have arrived in Norway since 9/11.

Big signals from gold and silver as political chaos ramps up around the world

gold and silver
After nearly eight years of torment, gold and silver are back. The global political picture is spinning out of control quickly. And the precious metals are here to tell us just how quickly.

Before I get to the charts, however, I think it's important we review everything that happened this week just to get some context.

Last weekend two gruesome murder sprees were committed in El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio. Both shooters apparently radicalized by the current political climate. The usual suspects used these events to call for gun control, pre-crime prevention straight out of a Philip K. Dick novel while blaming them on the tyranny of white people and Donald Trump's racism.

Then on Monday morning to the news India revoked Article 370 of their constitution, reorganizing Kashmir & Jammu and putting the entire area on a lockdown so complete many there don't know what happened.

Protests in Hong Kong continued into their third week as the U.S. is caught openly working with protest organizers and castigates by China.

Later that same day Donald Trump finally fulfills a Republican dream of labeling China a 'currency manipulator' because investors properly responded to his installing tariffs on the rest of China's imports to the U.S.

A court unsealed documents from a lawsuit filed by an accuser of Jeffrey Epstein that claim a number of powerful men were involved in Epstein's alleged ring of abuse — and that President Trump and former president Clinton took previously unreported trips with the former financier.
  • Virginia Guiffre filed this lawsuit against close Epstein associate Ghislane Maxwell, alleging Maxwell exploited her as part of a sex-trafficking network of underage girls to Epstein and a number of his famous friends. Maxwell denies the allegation.
  • The documents were ordered unsealed in July, a portion of which were finally made public Friday.
  • More documents are under review by the judge and may be unsealed in the coming days.

Pakistan's Khan plays the Hitler card, sez India ruled by Aryans who seek lebensraum via ethnic genocide

You know you're royally screwed when all you have left is the Nazi card
Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan asked Sunday if the international community would stand by as Indian Hindu nationalism spread into Muslim-majority Kashmir, saying it was the same as appeasing Hitler.

His outrage on Twitter came as tensions simmered between the two countries over Kashmir after New Delhi last week rescinded constitutional autonomy enjoyed by the state and gave full control to the central government. Article 370 was the constitutional provision that allowed Jammu and Kashmir semi-autonomy over laws - a feature not enjoyed by other Indian states. Indian citizens, other than Kashmiris, could not buy land in Kashmir according to Article 370.

Kashmir has been under virtual lockdown since shortly before the move, with a curfew across the region, and phone and internet lines cut - ostensibly to prevent unrest.

Comment: Oy vey!

Pakistan really has no answer to Modi's power-play.

When you're reduced to invoking Munich '38, you're done.

There is only one long-term solution for Pakistan: some kind of fundamental rapprochement with 'big brother' India, much like Ukraine vis a vis Russia. If not that, then explicit constitutional confederation or reunification.

Pakistan was a terrible idea in the first place.

Creepy Joe Biden misdates 2018 Parkland Shooting in latest blunder

Joe Biden

Joe Biden pauses during the Everytown for Gun Safety Presidential Gun Sense Forum.
Joe Biden said he was vice president when the deadly high school shooting in Parkland, Florida, took place. Except, it happened in 2018, more than a year after he left office -- the latest gaffe by the Democratic presidential front-runner.

Biden told reporters in Iowa on Saturday that "those kids in Parkland came up to see me when I was vice president." But when they visited Capitol Hill to talk with members of Congress, lawmakers were "basically cowering, not wanting to see them. They did not want to face it on camera."

The former vice president was making a point about the changing conversation around gun violence in this country, and how as more and more ordinary people are touched by mass shootings, they are more likely to call for action.
