Iraqi authorities have been requested to suppress the activities of institutions linked to the Fethullahist Terrorist Organization (FETO) made up of supporters of Turkish opposition cleric Fethullah Gulen, accused by Ankara of being the mastermind of a recent military coup, Iraq's ambassador to Turkey said.

"We contacted the respective departments to take the necessary steps on FETO activities in Iraq," Hisham Ali Akbar Ibrahim Alawi told the Anadolu news agency.

According to the ambassador, the Turkish government asked Baghdad not only to close schools linked to the FETO but also to deal with other issues related to the organization.

German, Russian foreign ministers meet in Russia to discuss Ukraine, Syria

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier have held talks in the Russian city of Yekaterinburg that focused primarily on Ukraine and Syria.

Speaking to reporters after the August 15 meeting, the two ministers affirmed their support for the Minsk process aimed at resolving the conflict in eastern Ukraine.

Lavrov said Moscow is prepared to provide "irrefutable" evidence of an alleged plan by Kyiv to launch sabotage attacks in Crimea, the Ukrainian region that Moscow annexed in 2014.

Moscow does not plan to sever diplomatic relations with Ukraine over the incident, saying that doing so would be "an extreme measure," Lavrov added.

Comment: In a separate statement, Russian Defense Minister Shoigu said today:
We are in a very active stage of negotiations with our American colleagues now, both in Geneva and Amman; we are practically in constant talks with Washington. Step by step we are nearing a structure — I'm talking about Aleppo only — that would allow us to truly begin working together so that this territory, this long-suffering region could find peace.
Also:
What is the thing that we are standing against? We say: guys, a balance is established. If you use the situation, dispersal of hysteria to supplement the budget so that defence enterprises receive additional income, this is your own business. But I repeatedly tell them to stop frightening their people. Because those who are educated, those who can count to a hundred, have long had the understanding. I don't know and don't understand why that should go further. We would like our colleagues to stop at some stage and realise that we are ready for dialogue.

Obama vs. Trump, Putin and Erdogan: Can the Empire's coups defeat elected governments?

"Many of our interlocutors have been purged or arrested".

Introduction

Washington has organized a systematic, global, no holds barred campaign to oust Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump from the electoral process. The virulent anti-Trump animus, the methods, goals and mass media resemble authoritarian regimes preparing to overthrow political adversaries.

Comparable propaganda efforts led to political coups in Chile in 1973, Brazil 1964, and Venezuela in 2002. The anti-Trump forces include both political parties, a Supreme Court judge, Wall Street bankers, journalists and editorialist of all the major media outlets and the leading military and intelligence spokespeople.

Washington's forcible and illegal ouster of Trump is part and parcel of a world-wide campaign to overthrow leaders and regimes which raise questions about aspects of the imperial policies of the US and EU.

We will proceed to analyze the politics of the anti-Trump elite, the points of confrontation and propaganda, as a prelude to the drive to oust opposition in Latin America, Europe, the Middle East and Asia.

Denmark will submit a motion Monday to lead a UN-backed international maritime operation to remove chemical weapons from Libya, the Danish Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

It will offer to provide the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), which coordinates the effort, with a civil transport ship, a Danish Royal Navy support ship, and personnel.

"Denmark will once again demonstrate international responsibility by making a concrete contribution to the international effort to curb the global spread of chemical weapons. We therefore hope for as broad support from the parliament of this important operation as possible," Foreign Minister Kristian Jensen said.

The ruble-traded MICEX index on the Russian exchange hit an all-time high of 1,977.19 points on Monday. Markets have been bolstered by growing oil prices, signs that Russia is coming out of recession, and increasing foreign investment.

MICEX is calculated on the shares of Russia's 50 biggest companies, including Gazprom, Rosneft, NOVATEK, Sberbank, Uralkali.

The biggest contributors to the Monday rally were Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK), which saw 2.9 percent growth, and power giant Rossetti, whose shares were up nearly two percent.

The dollar-denominated RTS index was also seen rising, reaching 967 points.

Oil prices rally on possible talks between Russia & Saudi Arabia

Russian Energy Minister Aleksandr Novak said Russia is considering engaging in talks with Saudi Arabia on stabilizing oil prices. The possibility of a production freeze between the world's largest producers has boosted global oil prices.

"With regard to cooperation with Saudi Arabia, the dialogue between our two countries is developing in a tangible way, whether in the framework of a multi-party structure or on a bilateral level," Novak told Saudi newspaper Asharq al-Awsat.

"We are cooperating in consultations regarding the oil market with OPEC countries and producers from outside the organization, and are determined to continue dialogue to achieve market stability," he added.

The news helped recently slumping oil prices to rally. On Monday, North Sea benchmark Brent reached August highs of $47.61 per barrel, while US WTI crude traded above $45 a barrel.

Prices are rising despite data from the US that shows its oil rigs count continued to grow for seventh week in a row, the longest run since 2014.

Comment: Resources are becoming almost more important than weapons in the hybrid style of war. Even the potential of discussions to alter the rate of oil production can have immense political ramifications.

Russia is building large numbers of underground nuclear command bunkers in the latest sign Moscow is moving ahead with a major strategic forces modernization program.

U.S. intelligence officials said construction has been underway for several years on "dozens" of underground bunkers in Moscow and around the country.

Disclosure of the underground command bunkers comes as Army Gen. Curtis Scaparrotti, commander of U.S. European Command, warned recently that Russia has adopted a nuclear use doctrine he called "alarming."

"It is clear that Russia is modernizing its strategic forces," Scaparrotti told a conference sponsored by the U.S. Strategic Command.

Trump to call for new ideological test for admission to US and 'foreign policy realism'

Donald Trump on Monday will call for a new ideological test for admission to the United States, vetting applicants on their stance on issues like religious freedom, gender equality and gay rights. The policy would represent a significant shift in how the U.S. manages entry into the country.

In a speech in swing state Ohio, Trump will also call for "foreign policy realism" and an end to nation-building if elected president. And he'll argue that the United States needs to work with anyone who shares the mission of destroying the Islamic State group and other extremist organizations, regardless of other disagreements.

"Mr. Trump's speech will explain that while we can't choose our friends, we must always recognize our enemies," Trump senior policy adviser Stephen Miller said.
