Puppet Masters
The controversial 'Mirotvorets' (Peacekeeper) website took aim at German Ambassador Wolfgang Ischinger, blacklisting him for what it said was "attempting to disrupt the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine" and for "taking part in Russia's propaganda events aimed against Ukraine."Ischinger chairs the Munich Security Conference (MSC), a major pro-NATO event in Europe; while Russia and China - two of the West's designated opponents - are frequently invited, their input seems unable to alter the conference's mainstream narrative.
Andrew Sabisky was one of the hires made by 10 Downing Street after Johnson's chief adviser Dominic Cummings made a high-profile call to stock the office with "misfits and weirdos".
Even the controversial Cummings might have got more than he bargained for, as it has emerged that 27-year-old Sabisky once called for a "universal contraception" program to stop the creation of a "permanent underclass," and also said that the benefits of brain-boosting drugs were "probably worth a dead kid".
The revelations began when the Times uncovered an interview Sabisky gave to Schools Weekly, in which he spoke in favor of giving children a dose of the cognitive-enhancement drug modafinil.

Self-styled political "superforecaster" Andrew Sabisky tended his resignation on Monday over the series of controversial remarks, maintaining he did not want to be a "distraction" to Johnson's government.
"The media hysteria about my old stuff online is mad but I wanted to help [Her Majesty's Government] not be a distraction. Accordingly I've decided to resign as a contractor," Sabisky said in a tweet announcing the move, adding that he was a victim of "selective quoting" and a media "character assassination."

A US military vehicle drives past an oil pump jack near Qamishli, Syria on October 26, 2019.
"The oil fields... are controlled by the US. There's shameless, impudent pillage of the wealth that belongs to Syria and the Syrian people taking place," Shoigu said during a visit to the Italian capital Rome.
At the same time, the sanctions imposed by Washington against Damascus ban any oil shipments to Syria, putting the country in a tight spot.
Comment: Assad was not going to quietly acquiesce to the theft of his country's wealth. From December 2019:
Syria's government is considering suing the United States in an international court over what a senior advisor to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad referred to as the 'stealing' of Syria's oil.The one-third of Syria illegally occupied by US and proxy forces contain most of its oil, water and gas
"Syria is looking into the possibility of filing an international lawsuit against the United States, due to the fact that they steal Syrian oil," Bouthaina Shaaban, Syrian Presidential Adviser, told Beirut-based Al-Mayadeen TV in an interview, carried by Iran's Fars news agency.
[...]
In a separate interview, with NBC News, Assad's advisor Shaaban said that the United States had no right to Syria's oil, warning of "popular opposition and operations against the American occupiers of our oil."
The Kurdish SDF forces control most of Syria's oil. Before the war, Syria was producing 387,000 barrels of oil per day, of which 140,000 bpd were exported.

Contenders for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination Bernie Sanders (L) and Michael Bloomberg (R)
Bloomberg campaign manager Kevin Sheekey slammed the Sanders campaign for circulating a 2016 video of Bloomberg making remarks about farming that he claimed were "completely out of context."
The heading on the statement said, "Bernie's New Bro....Donald Trump."
Comment: The Twitter volleys were plentiful as Sanders and Bloomberg supporters squared off:
"The United States cannot, and will not, become such a difficult place to deal with in terms of foreign countries buying our product," Trump tweeted on Tuesday, "including for the always used National Security excuse."
"I have seen some of the regulations being circulated, including those being contemplated by Congress, and they are ridiculous. I want to make it EASY to do business with the United States, not difficult."Though Trump did not identify the exact restrictions being proposed, his tweetstorm came two days after Reuters reported that his administration is planning on blocking General Electric from supplying engines for a new Chinese passenger jet — the Comac C919. Anonymous sources said US officials fear that China could reverse engineer the GE engines, as well as flight control systems supplied to Comac by US firm Honeywell.
Khamenei: Just like the 'Titanic,' the glorious US won't prevent it from sinking...and it will sink!
Pulling no punches, Khamenei tweeted that the country's arch rival is a clear "manifestation of oppression" that is "abhorred by the world."
Not stopping there, he also likened the US to the 'Titanic,' and promised its fate may be no less grim. "The Americans decorate a facade to deceive others and to scare some. But, just as the magnificence of the 'Titanic' didn't prevent her from sinking, the glory of the US won't prevent it from sinking. And it will sink."
The Hague Court of Appeal ruled on Tuesday that the 2016 ruling cancelling the arbitration decision "was not correct," meaning that "the arbitration order is in force again."
The Russian Justice Ministry said immediately after the ruling that it would appeal the court's decision. The Ministry of Justice said the court had ignored the fact that the former Yukos shareholders were not "bona fide investors."
"Control over the assets of this company was obtained through a number of illegal actions, including conspiracy and bribery of officials. During the management of Yukos by the former majority owners, there was massive tax evasion, illegal withdrawal of assets abroad, money laundering, and other illegal actions."The Russian Justice Ministry pointed out that the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) did not find any political motives in the criminal prosecution of former Yukos executives Mikhail Khodorkovsky and Platon Lebedev and that no compensation would be awarded.

Michel Barnier, European Commission's Head of Task Force for Relations with the UK and Mayor of London Sadiq Khan
Ahead of his visit to Brussels on Tuesday to discuss the issue with senior EU officials, Khan claimed he could not think of a better way of resolving differences between 'Leavers' and 'Remainers' than to allow UK citizens who still feel European to keep their link to the EU.
Like so many Londoners, I am heartbroken that we are no longer a member of the European Union, but that doesn't mean our country's future can't be closely linked with the rest of Europe. The idea of associate citizenship - which has been earmarked by several high-profile EU officials - could involve individuals paying a fee in order to retain many bloc "benefits" after Brexit, including the right to move freely between member states.
The country's Independent Election Commission (IEC) said on February 18 that final official results from the September 28 presidential election show incumbent President Ashraf Ghani has been elected to a second five-year term with 50.64 percent of the vote.
By winning more than 50 percent of the vote, he has avoided a second-round runoff ballot.
The results come nearly five months after the election due to a lengthy recount of the ballots that was launched after Ghani's main rival, Abdullah Abdullah, raised allegations of fraud in the vote-counting process.
Abdullah, who has been serving as Afghanistan's chief executive officer as part of a national unity government, took second place with 39.52 percent of the vote, according to the IEC.

It is understood Michel Barnier has privately fumed that the UK is backsliding on its promises.
Speaking in response to a landmark speech by David Frost, Britain's Brexit negotiator, Barnier said such an offer was not on the table and noted that the prime minister had agreed only six months ago to stick to the EU's state aid rules and current social and environmental regulations after the transition period.
Asked if Frost was right in his speech on Monday night to say that agreeing to such alignment in a trade deal would be undemocratic, Barnier told reporters: "Truly not. It is a sovereign decision of the EU, it is a sovereign decision of the UK to cooperate ... That is what Boris Johnson wrote in the political declaration."
