Germany should no longer 'turn a blind eye' to Saudi Arabia's actions

The statement by German Vice Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel regarding Saudi Arabia's alleged involvement in funding Islamic radicals should be met in a positive way, Helmut Scholz, member of the European Parliament, told Sputnik on Monday.

Earlier in December, Gabriel said that Riyadh had been funding extremist mosques and communities all over the world.

"When Mr. Gabriel as a one of the leading politician of the German government is stating that Germany would no longer turn a blind eye with regard to Saudi Arabia I believe this should be really welcomed," Scholz, who is a member of Germany's left-wing Die Linke party, said.

Comment: Good idea but will anything be done about it?

Moscow sets three conditions for improving ties with Turkey after SU-24 downing

Turkey has consistently insisted on the need to engage in constructive dialogue to reduce tensions between the two countries. However, the Turkish government has not yet made any practical steps in this direction, Russian Ambassador to Turkey Andrei Karlov said.

Karlov outlined three conditions to restore normal relations between Moscow and Ankara after the deadly incident with the Russian SU-24 jet, Hurriyet Daily News reported.

According to the diplomat, Turkey should apologize for the attack on the Russian SU-24 aircraft, which resulted in the death of two Russian servicemen. The Turkish authorities are also expected to find and punish those responsible for the incident as well as pay damage compensation to the Russian side.

"If our expectations are not met, Turkey's other announcements will not pay off," the ambassador said, cited by the newspaper.

Comment: These are three pretty simple requests Russia has asked of Turkey. If Turkey fails to respond, things could get worse for them.

Israeli officer briefly detained in London for Gaza war crimes

A retired officer of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has been arrested in Britain for alleged war crimes committed in Gaza during "Operation Protective Edge" in 2014.

The man, who was in London on a business trip, was arrested upon arrival after a complaint was lodged against him for war crimes committed during the 50-day war.

The man was questioned for several hours before being released after the Israeli Foreign Ministry intervened. British authorities were forced to apologize.

Comment: Too bad it was only for a few hours. They need to be arrested and tried for their crimes. But in this world, war criminals don't go to prison. Instead, officials have to apologize for inconveniencing them. How's that for twisted justice?

Israel wants another squadron of US F-35 fighter jets

Netanyahu's latest "request."
Israel seeks to obtain another squadron of America's fifth-generation aircraft, the F-35 fighter jet, as negotiations are underway between Washington and Tel Aviv to expand the regime's military capabilities.

Discussions between Moshe Ya'alon, the Israeli minister of military affairs, and US Defense Secretary Ashton Carter have now expanded to include F-35B Lightning II short takeoff/vertical landing jets in the US military package to Israel, Israel's Hebrew-language Walla website reported on Sunday.
The F-35, the B variant "is designed to operate from austere bases and a range of air-capable ships near frontline combat zones. It can also take off and land conventionally from longer runways on major bases," according to US defense contractor Lockheed Martin.

Comment: Let's think this through. The US gives Israel a minimum $10.2M per day (2015 Iran agreement bribe/ransom) in military subsidy totaling $3.723B/year. Israel then buys American fighter jets...for free. Such a deal. Not even a lousy haggle or two. Given the F-35B contracted unit costs (not including engine) are $104M per jet, and given the US throws in the engine for its pal Israel, the 17 jet fleet would total only $1.768B. So, Bubby Bibi, maybe Israel can also afford the engines (for free)? PS: The F-35A fighter jets are a bargain at $98M ea. Essentially every 10 days Israel can afford one of these, thanks to its mandatory US subsidy scraped together by the American taxpayers.

Sarin materials brought via Turkey & mixed in Syrian ISIS camps - Turkish MP to RT

Islamic State terrorists in Syria received all necessary materials to produce deadly sarin gas via Turkey, Turkish MP Eren Erdem has told RT, insisting there are grounds to believe a cover up has taken place.

The main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) member, Erdem, brought up the issue for public discussion in parliament last week, citing evidence from an abruptly-closed criminal case. He accused Ankara of failing to investigate Turkish supply routes used to provide terrorists with toxic sarin gas ingredients.

"There is data in this indictment. Chemical weapon materials are being brought to Turkey and being put together in Syria in camps of ISIS which was known as Iraqi Al Qaeda during that time," Erdem told RT.

U.S. columnist: NATO not capable of beating Russia

Russia has a number of advantages that can ensure the country's military forces will succeed in a hypothetical armed conflict, if it ever happens, American columnist Loren Thompson claims.

As the tension between the world powers appear to escalate, stories suggesting how the hypothetical conflict between Russia and the NATO bloc would unfold are increasingly more common in various media outlets. And in this potential standoff, Russia has lots of advantages that could help it to gain an upper hand, Loren Thompson, a Chief Operating Officer of the non-profit Lexington Institute and a columnist, wrote for Forbes magazine.

First of all, according to Thompson, NATO has neglected preparations necessary to meet high-tech threats.
"Fifteen years of fighting counter-insurgency warfare in Southwest Asia has left the Army well equipped to take down irregular forces such as ISIS [Daesh], but much less ready to fight an enemy armed with tanks, artillery and attack aircraft," Thompson wrote.
Moreover, Russia would gain huge geographical advantages in potential conflict, the analyst added. Russia, he went on, has a historical tendency to conduct warfare on land rather than at sea. Additionally, taking into account the quantity of armed forces deployed in the west of the country, Russia can, in a very short-term, assemble the required numbers of servicemen, Thompson underscored.

The author of the article also believes that NATO's air support may, in fact, appear ineffective, as Russia has obtained mighty anti-aircraft defense systems. "For instance, most of Polish air space is potentially within range of Russian air defenses," Thompson pointed out.

Comment: In other words, Russia would 'mop the floor' with NATO and the U.S.

Analyst: ISIL, ongoing (and lucrative) source of US psychological warfare

...in other words, the same thing.
US President Barack Obama's government has no intention of destroying the Daesh (ISIL) Takfiri group and is using the terror organization as an instrument to push ahead with its agenda through psychological warfare, an American analyst says.

It was announced on Monday that Obama was planning to visit Defense Secretary Ashton Carter later in the day to review the US-led military campaign against Daesh with his national security advisers. This would be the American leader's first visit to the Pentagon since the recent terrorist attacks in California and Paris. The attacks that left scores of people dead are believed to have been carried out by people who share ideologies with the terrorist group.

Comment: That is what they want you to believe. (Unless "they" were referring to the US's involvement in false flag operations, in which case, it would be true.)

"Few things in this mess are more clear than the fact that White House policy has been to contain and, many people argue, use ISIS (Daesh) to spread insecurity and perhaps to force regime change, rather than to destroy the phenomena," Barry Grossman, an international lawyer, told Press TV on Monday.

Comment: Interesting strategy: If it doesn't work, keep doing it until it does...or until you can convince someone it does. The US wants both sides of its bread buttered which, of course, makes a mess.

Yemeni forces destroy 2 more Saudi warships

Sinking Saudi warship
Yemen's army and popular forces targeted and destroyed two Saudi warships in the waters near Bab al-Mandab Strait on Monday, bringing the number of the Saudi vessels sent down in the waters offshore Yemen to 10.

The Saudi warships were reportedly two destroyers and were targeted by the Yemeni army missiles in the Al-Mukha coastal waters in the province of Ta'iz today.

The Yemeni popular forces said the sunken ships had repeatedly fired rockets at residential areas in Ta'iz province, inflicting casualties and destruction there.

Yemen's army has thus far destroyed ten warships of the Saudi-led coalition forces in Bab al-Mandab Strait in the last several months.

Other Saudi battleships that were approaching Yemen's coasts retreated fast following the attack.

Comment: Things are really not looking so good for the Saudis' coalition right now.

Parliamentary sources say Turkey withdrawing troops from Northern Iraq

Turkish tank
Parliamentary sources in Iraq said on Monday that the Turkish army retreated troops from Northern Iraq a few hours ago.

Reports said on Monday that the Turkish military began their withdrawal from Iraq's territory at 5 in the morning.

Member of the Iraqi parliament Salem Al-Shabak announced that Turkish troops have fully withdrawn from Zalkan military camp.

The withdrawal of Turkish forces was reached as an agreement between the central government in Baghdad and Kurdistan's regional government, sources told FNA.

"Only Turkish advisers and technicians will remain at the military base as per the agreement," the reports said.

Comment: Wonder if there was pressure on Turkey from the US.

The tragedy of Greece: Austerity, financial collapse, and the systematic destruction of a people

Greece Syriza

Greek protesters telling the corrupt EU technocracts what they think of their 'austerity measures'

The Greek tragedy of national economic collapse appeared to be turning into farce with the re-election of Syriza at the end of September. The leftist party had been first elected only seven months earlier on the promise to end the austerity measures forced on Greece by the troika of the European Union (EU), International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the European Central Bank (ECB) in exchange for $339 billion in bailout loans (see March Monitor). Reforms to that point had devastated the Greek economy causing it to shrink by 25% and increasing overall unemployment by the same amount, and pushing youth unemployment to 48%.

Syriza has now been returned to power after pledging to enact arguably more severe austerity measures than the ones it had first been elected to oppose. A month after the July 5 referendum, in which Greeks overwhelmingly (61.31%) rejected the troika's bailout plans, Alexis Tsipras, Syriza's leader, signed a third memorandum of understanding with Europe, in which his government agreed to significant tax hikes, drastic pension cuts and wide-ranging privatizations that exceed many of the structural reforms undertaken over the previous five years. When some of his own party members rebelled against this clear betrayal, ending Syriza's coalition majority in parliament, Tsipras called an election.

Comment: There are plenty of solutions to the problems faced by Greece and by many other Western nations. If there were real independent leadership they could forge a way forward and, though it would be rocky, there would be hope for the people. But the biggest problem of all in Greece and throughout the West is the parasites in power. They refuse to implement any solutions whatsoever, because they are only too happy to bleed their host countries dry. Also see:
