India has stepped up its efforts to tackle the coronavirus spreading throughout the country, labeling the virus a "Notified Disaster." The designation allows local governments to tap into a special disaster-relief fund.

Covid-19 virus, which has already infected over 80 people across India, was formally branded a "notified disaster" by the Ministry of Home Affairs on Saturday. Such a designation has effectively put the outbreak on a par with earthquakes, tsunamis, avalanches and other major natural disasters.


Comment: 80 people infected in a country of over a billion. Does this response not seem a bit hyperbolic?


The classification enables state governments to spend more money from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) on tackling the outbreak. Apart from funding hospitalization of Covid-19 patients and paying compensation to the relatives of coronavius victims, the funds can now be funneled into procurement of essential protection and lab equipment.

In the post WWII years two cultural revolutions swept both Asian and western civilisations appearing on the surface to have distinct characteristics, yet each resulting in profound moral cultural decay.

In America and Europe, the rise of modernism in painting, music, philosophy and architecture were imposed upon academia and the arts which modern research has revealed to have been the work of the CIA and the Congress for Cultural Freedom. This paradigm shift in the arts was funded by western intelligence agencies who justified their artistic patronage with the logic that "if the new communist blocs were to be governed by iconoclasm and realism in the arts which put the state above all ideas of personal freedom, then the "democratic aesthetics" must take the polar opposite stance and promote only the unbounded freedom of individual expression devoid of any connection to the whole of society". One consequence of this shift was that the Ancient Greco-Roman aesthetics that defined America's architecture, painting, and general moral sensibilities was brutally amputated [1].

While the backdrop to this reform took the shape of McCarthyism in America, in China a parallel cultural reform occurred in 1949. This cultural movement saw the total rejection of Confucianism as a "relic of past elitism and corruption" which had no place in the Maoist vision for a newly reconstructed China.

Brazil's President Jair Bolsonaro has tested positive for Covid-19, a Brazilian paper is claiming citing sources in the presidential palace. All eyes are now on US President Donald Trump, who met Bolsonaro on Saturday.

Bolsonaro and his delegation met with Trump at the president's Mar-A-Lago resort in Florida. On Thursday, Bolsonaro's press secretary, Fabio Wajngarten, was diagnosed with the coronavirus.

According to Brazilian newspaper O Dia, Bolsonaro himself has now tested positive for the virus. His preliminary results came back positive on Friday, the paper claims. The report is based on sources within the Brazilian government. The paper has been described by journalist Glenn Greenwald - a critic of Bolsonaro - as "reasonably reliable." He, however, then urged the journalists "to be cautious" in their reporting.

Comment: The report on Bolsonaro's test results were immediately contradicted by his son who claimed the story was put out before Bolsonaro's results had come back. Apparently he tested negative.


Brazil's president used the opportunity to decry the misinformation around the state of his health.


The Brazilian leader announced his test results on his Facebook page on Friday, just over an hour after Brazilian newspaper O Dia reported that he had tested positive. Bolsonaro followed his announcement up with a post reading "don't believe the fake news media!"

Earlier, Bolsonaro's son, Eduardo, had criticized the media for spreading "fake news" about his father's diagnosis. He said that full results were unknown at the time of O Dia's report.
Canada's PM Justin Trudeau is conveniently 'self-isolating', because wife Sophie has apparently tested positive for coronavirus. This has allowed him to dodge the controversial handling of the pipeline protests by various indigenous groups. for a few weeks.


Australia's Home Affairs minister, Peter Dutton, joins the list of government officials testing positive for exposure.
Australia's minister for home affairs, Peter Dutton, has announced that he has contracted coronavirus. The senior Australian official said that he has been hospitalized. In a statement posted to his official Twitter page, Dutton explained that he was tested for COVID-19 after waking up with a "temperature and sore throat."

Dutton was hospitalized after the test returned positive. The minister said that he "feels fine" and will provide updates as they become available.

Australia will ban all public gatherings of more than 500 people starting on Monday, as the government attempts to stop toe spread of the highly contagious disease.
In a show of bravura, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un was photographed observing a military drill without wearing a mask.
In a photograph released by the country's Korean Central News Agency, Kim is seen in a camouflaged trench as he observes artillery exercises. Wearing a black leather coat and a hat, the North Korean leader is conspicuously without any protective gear - in sharp contrast to his aides, who are all sporting black medical masks.

There are no confirmed reports of coronavirus in the hermit state, but its proximity to the disease's epicenter in China has prompted the government to increase vigilance at the border and impose quarantine measures when deemed necessary.

"All workers are strengthening awareness-raising campaigns about the global spread of the disease and prevention and treatment policy so that no one lowers their guard because the outbreak has not occurred in our country," KCNA said in a report.

If genuine, the photo would mark his second public appearance this week to oversee military drills. Kim was similarly spotted without any kind of facial protection when he watched missile tests on Monday. The launches are believed to have been the first by North Korea in three months.

There's growing speculation that Clinton is back, having nursed her wrath for four years after the 2016 election defeat. She believes if Biden wins and she's the ticket as VP, she could rise to power given his cognitive decline.

The party is over. The Democrats' dishing of Bernie Sanders for the second time makes a second Trump Term "highly likely".


Comment: 'The party is over' - as in the Democratic Party as well.


Joe Biden will be dribbling at the mouth come November, possibly having committed an assault or two along the way, and Trump will have played with him as the cat plays with the mouse, before killing and eating it.

The polite way of putting it is "cognitive difficulties," but Donald Trump and his gang are far from polite. They will call it what it is, however "deplorable." It is senility. A disqualification for having your finger on the nuclear button even more serious than the offence of being Donald Trump. His face appears made of wax, his eyes bloodied during one debate and his dentures flying out and across the studio floor in another.

Comment: Do the Dems have nothing better to offer than advancing senility paired with a psychopath? And no one gets to object or say they notice? What does that tell us?

Putin signs off on constitutional changes allowing his 2024 run for president

Vladimir Putin has formally signed off on constitutional amendments that would allow the Russian leader to run again for president in 2024. News of the signing, via a state website, comes a day after it was reported that all of Russia's regional parliaments had voted in favor of the measures. Russia's Constitutional Court must now examine the constitutional changes, which are due to be put to a nationwide vote in April.

In January, Putin announced a major shake-up of Russian politics and a constitutional overhaul, which the Kremlin described as a redistribution of power from the presidency to parliament.

But earlier this week, Putin, 67, who has been president or prime minister of Russia for two decades, appeared in the State Duma to back a new amendment that would allow him to ignore a current constitutional ban on him running again in 2024.

Nobody in their right mind would wish for a global pandemic. Yet, such wisdom may seem less obvious in an election year as the Democrats look prepared to use the coronavirus as a weapon in their quest to unseat Trump.

Whatever one may think about the coronavirus — that it has been overblown, underestimated, or handled with impeccable care — one thing is indisputable: Trump's political opponents will be hard-pressed not to use Covid-19 as yet another way of portraying the Republican leader as unworthy of the White House. After all, we are talking about the year 2020, when the American people are staring down the barrel of the most pivotal presidential election to come along in many years. In other words, nothing should surprise us.

Eighteen years ago, the US led the NATO invasion of Afghanistan for the stated purpose of toppling the Taliban government and crushing the Al Qaeda forces they were harboring. Now, after more than 4,000 US military personnel and contractors have been killed, and over a trillion dollars spent, a peace agreement between the USA and the Taliban appears to be in the works.

But what led up to this optimism about a possible US withdrawal from Afghanistan and a reduction in chaos? The current hope of peace was preceded by a string of revelations about how completely false the western media's narrative and the words of US officials about the war have been.

In December of 2019, the Washington Post revealed that it had obtained a string of documents revealing that US officials had consistently lied through their teeth. Progress wasn't being made in Afghanistan. The country was in a state of confusion and chaos, amid constant setbacks. Due to a lack of progress and clear strategy, the generals overseeing US Afghan operations had also changed frequently during the 18 years of occupation.

The Alliance has been preparing to stage its biggest military exercise in decades when it encountered a foe it was not apparently ready to face — the coronavirus. Now, the drill is at risk, while its true aim comes to the fore.

A large-scale exercise with a pompous name 'Defender Europe 2020' was expected to become the biggest one for the Alliance in a quarter of a century. Up to 20,000 US troops together with some 17,000 more soldiers from 17 other NATO members were scheduled to take part in the drill, which was about to be held [in] Germany, Poland, and the Baltic states.

Staged mainly between April and May, this training designed to supposedly promote peace through deterrence and practicing to counter a hypothetical military aggression was aimed at demonstrating the Europeans that the Alliance is there to protect them against any threat - particularly if one imagines, let's say, Russia to be the one.

Previously, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian suggested on his Twitter page that the COVID-19 coronavirus could have been "brought" to China's city of Wuhan by the US military. However, he stopped short of providing solid evidence to support his suspicions.

Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei stated during an address to the country's armed forces that the recent coronavirus outbreak, which has led to the infection of over 9,000 people in the Islamic Republic, could have been orchestrated intentionally. In the speech, the leader referred to "some evidence" that suggested the pandemic was man-made, but didn't elaborate any further. Khamenei stated:
"[The establishment of the 'Health and Treatment Base' by the military] may also be regarded as a biological defence exercise and add to our national sovereignty and power given the evidence that suggests the likelihood of [the outbreak] being a 'biological attack.'"

Comment: Pompeo and Khamenei have another thing to fight over: Coronavirus
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has criticized Iran's efforts at "biological defense" against Covid-19, but conspicuously avoided addressing Ayatollah Khamenei's claim that the virus was a "biological attack."
Pompeo merely chided him for not "telling the Iranian people the truth about the Wuhan virus when it spread to Iran from China" in a tweet on Friday, suggesting Tehran missed an opportunity for "the best biological defense" when it failed to curtail flights from Wuhan and "jailed those who spoke out." He made no mention at all of the virus as a "biological attack" - American or otherwise.

Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif slammed the Trump administration's "medical terrorism" earlier this week, pointing out that artificially-induced shortages have put a major strain on hospitals' resources.

A large number of US troops have arrived in Aden in southern Yemen, a Yemeni website reported, adding that this measure has taken place in coordination with the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The Arabic-language al-Mashhad al-Yamani reported that 450 US troops have arrived in Yemen in coordination with the UAE.

"The US and British troops who have arrived in Aden are the first soldiers of a big force that Washington intends to station in the strategic regions of the Southern provinces," al-Mashhad quoted a person affiliated to the UAE-backed South Transition Council as saying.

The source noted that Washington and London intend to deploy 3,000 troops in Aden, al-And military base in Lahaj province, Saqtari, Shabweh in Southern Yemen and al-Mohreh in the eastern parts of the country. The military experts have warned that the US' excessive movement in Yemen's southern provinces is mainly aimed at setting up permanent military bases in the war-ravaged country.
