Scientific assassinations are part of the CIA's record

The Guardian newspaper's self-proclaimed Venezuela expert Rory Carroll has glibly categorized serious charges that Venezuela's late President Hugo Chavez Frias was assassinated by a United States-produced bio-weapon as being in the same league with conspiracy theorists who wonder about aliens at Roswell and NASA faking the moon landings. A number of Venezuelan and international officials believe a hostile party covertly introduced an aggressive form of cancer into the 58-year old president.

Carroll also wrote that Chavez, himself, believed that the cancers that befell former leftist leaders of Latin America, including Argentine President Nestor Kirchner, diagnosed with colon cancer and Brazilian President Ignacio Lula da Silva, treated for throat cancer, were part of a CIA plot directed against left-wing leaders. Curiously, Carroll suggests that Uruguay's former leftist president, Tabare Vazquez, also recovered from cancer. In fact, Vazquez never had cancer. Furthermore, he is a renowned oncologist trained in France. It was Paraguay's former president, Fernando Lugo who was ousted in a 2012 CIA-backed right-wing coup, who was diagnosed with lymphoma, cancer of the immune system. Carroll simply proclaims that because all three ex-leaders recovered from cancer, there was nothing to the U.S. cancer assassination weapon story.

Carroll conveniently omitted the cancers that have struck other Latin American leaders, including Argentine President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner, afflicted with thyroid cancer, and Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff, struck with lymphoma. After beginning peace talks with the left-wing Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), Colombia's conservative president Juan Manuel Santos was diagnosed with prostate cancer.

Venezuela to investigate Chavez murder allegations

Venezuelan officials have said they will set up an inquiry to investigate suspicions that President Hugo Chavez was murdered by foreign agencies.

Oil Minister Rafael Ramirez told the BBC the United States and Israel were to blame for Mr Chavez's death.

He said he hoped the special commission would provide evidence.

Mr Chavez himself suggested he might have been injected by "foreign imperialist forces" after discovering he had cancer in 2011.

On an interview with BBC Mundo in Caracas, Mr Ramirez said he had no doubt that Mr Chavez's death was an act of confrontation and similar to Yasser Arafat's.

On the day Mr Chavez died, the Vice-President Nicolas Maduro also likened his case to the death of the Palestinian leader.

John Brennan brings heavy baggage to his new job as CIA Director - legal as well as moral - arguably making it risky for him to travel to more than 150 countries that are party to the United Nations Convention Against Torture.

It must be hard for Brennan to recognize that he cannot land in Europe, for example, without fear of being arrested and arraigned for kidnapping (also known as "extraordinary rendition") and torture (now antiseptically called "EIT" for "enhanced interrogation techniques," which, by the way, is a direct translation of verschaerfte Vernehmungright out of the Gestapo handbook).

For they are the today's embodiment of lasting evil throughout the centuries. Their hatred of fellow humanoids on this planet is a plague far worse than any disease. Normal humans with everyday emotions absolutely mystify them; therefore, the Normals must be controlled and obliterated.

The Pro-Nukers first pulled the trigger that annihilated more than One Billion 200 Million of us since Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945.

Now they are only speeding up the killing, maiming and mutation of humans, animals and plants, in fact, of all life on the planet. The Earth is already fully consumed by their poisons. There is no cure; and, there is not even any medicine. That is an absolute.

Human rights activists say men were executed by firing squad, but country's official news agency says they were beheaded

Saudi Arabia has executed seven men for an armed robbery, the interior ministry said, despite an appeal for clemency by United Nations human rights investigators.

The seven, some of whom were under 18 when the crime was committed in 2006, had been due to be put to death last week but were granted a stay of execution while authorities reviewed their case.

Human rights activists in Saudi Arabia said they had been executed by firing squad, but the country's official news agency said they had been beheaded. The original sentences called for death by firing squad and crucifixion.

Five paramilitary soldiers and two suspected separatists dead after gun battle at empty school compound

Militants attacked a group of paramilitary soldiers on the outskirts of the capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir, leaving five soldiers and two militants dead and 10 more wounded, a police official said. It was the bloodiest militant attack in the capital in years.

The soldiers were inside a school compound for the children of police officers when the insurgents attacked, officials said. No students or teachers were at the school because of ongoing strikes in the wake of the February execution of a Kashmiri militant.

Five of those injured were members of the paramilitary force, the central reserve police force, and five were civilians, said police official Manoj Kumar Shree.

Officials said earlier that the attack had occurred at a paramilitary camp, which is next to the school. By midday, the entire area was inundated with heavily armed soldiers searching for any surviving militants.

Google fined $7 million for 'Street View' privacy breach

Google struck a deal with US authorities Tuesday to pay a $7 million fine for collecting people's personal data without authorization as it combed neighborhoods for its Street View service.

In a legal settlement with 38 states, the Internet giant agreed to destroy emails, passwords, and web histories it harvested from home wireless networks as Street View cars photographed neighborhoods between 2008 and 2010.

"This settlement addresses privacy issues and protects the rights of people whose information was collected without their permission," New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman said in a statement.

The Archdiocese of Los Angeles has agreed to pay nearly $10 million to four men who allege they were molested by a pedophile priest in what Cardinal Roger Mahony has called the most troubling case of his tenure, a lawyer for the men said Tuesday.

The agreement settled four lawsuits against the church concerning Michael Baker, who authorities believe molested 23 boys during three decades as a parish priest and hospital chaplain.

The settlement is the first since the church released 12,000 pages of internal personnel files about its handling of abuse allegations, including scores of documents detailing how Mahony and a top aide dealt with Baker.

Presidential candidates Nicolas Maduro and Henrique Capriles have begun Venezuela's election race with scathing personal attacks even as mourners still file past Hugo Chavez's coffin.

Maduro, who was sworn in as acting president after Chavez died of cancer last week, is seen as favorite to win the April 14 election, bolstered by an oil-financed state apparatus and a wave of public sympathy over Chavez's death.

"I am not Chavez, but I am his son," Maduro told thousands of cheering, red-clad supporters as he formally presented his candidacy to the election board on Monday.

"I am you, a worker. You and I are Chavez, workers and soldiers of the fatherland," the former bus driver and union activist added after the crowd's emotions were whipped up by recordings of Chavez singing the national anthem.

Iran puts five Christians on trial for their faith

Five Iranian Christian converts who were detained late last year will reportedly begin trial in Iran's Revolutionary Court this week, according to a human rights group following the case.

The five men were among seven arrested in October when security forces raided an underground house church in the city of Shiraz during a prayer session. They will be tried at the Revolutionary Court in Shiraz's Fars Province on charges of disturbing public order, evangelizing, threatening national security and engaging in Internet activity that threatens the government, according to Christian Solidarity Worldwide, a religious persecution watchdog group.

"Judging from recent cases, it is likely that, at the very least, those detained may face lengthy prison sentences," said CSW spokesperson Kiri Kankhwende.
