Exposing the CIA's secret effort to seize control of social media

While the CIA is strictly prohibited from spying on or running clandestine operations against American citizens on US soil, a bombshell new "Twitter Files" report reveals that a member of the Board of Trustees of InQtel - the CIA's mission-driving venture capital firm, along with "former" intelligence community (IC) and CIA analysts, were involved in a massive effort in 2021-2022 to take over Twitter's content management system, as Michael Shellenberger, Matt Taibbi and Alex Gutentag report over at Shellenberger's Public (subscribers can check out the extensive 6,800 word report here).

According to "thousands of pages of Twitter Files and documents," these efforts were part of a broader strategy to manage how information is disseminated and consumed on social media under the guise of combating 'misinformation' and foreign propaganda efforts - as this complex of government-linked individuals and organizations has gone to great lengths to suggest that narrative control is a national security issue.

Russia and China have had enough

SCO Members

Something very important happened earlier this week in Astana during the meeting of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi went straight to the point: he called for SCO members to "maintain their strategic autonomy", and "never allow external forces" to turn Eurasia into a "geopolitical arena."

Wang Yi detailed how "a few countries are pursuing hegemony and power, forming small cliques, establishing hidden rules, engaging in interference and suppression, 'decoupling and cutting off ties,' and even assisting the 'three forces' in the region", thus attempting to suppress the strategic autonomy of the Global South.

The "three forces" is Chinese code for terrorism, separatism and religious extremism - actually the three main reasons for the foundation of the SCO way back in 2001, a short while before 9/11.

The straightforward translation of Wang's message points to Beijing being very much aware of the Hegemon's myriad Hybrid War tactics now deployed all across the Heartland. Still, Beijing excels in politeness, calling for "common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable" security cooperation and to work with the "international community".

The problem is the "international community" is a hostage of the "rules-based international order".

Best of the Web: Ukraine's strike on Russia's strategic early warning radar site is a big deal

Significant damage to the southwest-facing Voronezh-DM early warning radar at the site and associated debris are clearly visible. Russia losing a strategic early warning radar system is a new twist in the Ukraine conflict that could have further reaching ramifications.
Satellite imagery confirms a Russian strategic early warning radar site in the southwestern end of the country was substantially damaged in a reported Ukrainian drone attack earlier this week. This looks to be a first-of-its-kind attack on a site linked to Russia's general strategic defense. As such, it points to a new and worrisome dimension to the conflict, especially when it comes to the potential use of nuclear weapons.

A satellite image taken on May 23 that The War Zone obtained from Planet Labs of the Armavir Radar Station in Russia's southwestern Krasnodar Krai shows significant debris around one of the site's two Voronezh-DM radar buildings. These are ultra-high-frequency (UHF) over-the-horizon (OTH) radars that are part of Russia's nuclear ballistic missile early warning system.

Comment: Regarding how attacks such as this could disrupt Russia's ability to distinguish between 'false positives', and the danger this presents; it brings to mind the uptick in fireball activity that has been occurring alongside the West's provocations and the issues this may present.

As just one recent and notable example, last month, amidst the heightened tension between Israel and Iran there was a sighting of a fireball over Iran which, momentarily, had civilian observers wondering if it was actually an attack by Israel.

There have been others, however there are also other possible triggers to consider: Video shows Ukrainian soldiers' sighting of mysterious UFO-shaped object in sky

Analyst Glenn Diesen commented:
This may 'compel Russia to put their strategic nuclear weapons on higher preparedness.

As the US targets Russia's nuclear early warning systems through its proxy, how will it be possible for Russia to sit on its hands and not retaliate?

An increasingly likely direct war between NATO and Russia will probably result in the use of nuclear weapons

Ukraine should also be able to strike targets in Russia with the use of weapons donated by NATO countries. This is what the secretary general of the Atlantic Alliance suggested, Jens Stoltenberg, in an interview with the British weekly "The Economist".

"The time has come for NATO member countries to consider whether they should lift some of the restrictions on the use of the weapons they donated to Ukraine," she said. "Denying Ukraine the ability to use these weapons against legitimate military targets on Russian territory makes it difficult for them to defend themselves especially now that there is a lot of fighting going on in the Kharkiv region, near the border," Stoltenberg explained.

It appears that, along with Israel, the West is becoming increasingly desperate, and reckless, and should it cross Russia's stated red lines and partake in direct attacks on Russian soil, Moscow may be forced to retaliate by neutralising the installations and command centres of the guilty parties in the West: Footage of the interview:

G7 ministers to release roadmap for using frozen Russian assets

Washington and its allies will discuss "potential schemes" to get the money to Kiev, Bloomberg reported.

Finance ministers from the G7 economies will release a joint communique on Saturday expressing their support for using the revenue generated by roughly $300 billion in frozen Russian assets to aid Ukraine, Bloomberg reported on Friday.

The finance ministers of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK, and the US will discuss Ukraine at a meeting on Saturday in the Italian town of Stresa, ahead of a summit of G7 leaders in June.

In the runup to the meeting, the US has been pressing its European allies to use future profits from immobilized Russian funds as a guarantee for a multibillion-dollar loan to Kiev. While Washington initially advocated the outright seizure of this money, the Europeans objected, citing legal issues and potential damage to the West's financial credibility.

Comment: Putin orders American Express bank to liquidate:
Russian President Vladimir Putin has granted American Express bank the right to 'voluntary liquidate' its business in Russia, according to a document published on the portal of legal acts on Wednesday. The order did not specify how and when exactly the liquidation process will take place.

According to the document, the decision comes in accordance with a decree signed by Putin in August 2022 concerning special economic measures in the financial and energy sectors in connection with the 'unfriendly actions of some foreign states and international organizations'.

In October 2022, Putin approved a list of 45 foreign-owned credit institutions, including American Express, transactions in the shares or share capital of which were banned without the president's special permission.

American Express announced in March 2022 that it was suspending all operations in Russia and Belarus in light of Western sanctions over the Ukraine conflict. The decision followed a similar move by fellow US payments firms Visa and Mastercard.

Since then, globally issued AmEx cards no longer work in Russia, while cards issued locally in Russia don't work outside the country on the American Express global network. American Express had been operating in Russia since 2008, as part of the American Express Global Corporate Payments business division.

'A waste': Biden admin's costly Gaza Pier already plagued by setbacks, 'logistical' problems

© U.S. Central Command/Getty ImagesGaza Pier
Though it hasn't even been operational for a full week, the Biden administration's floating pier to deliver aid to Gaza is already beset with setbacks that point to fundamental issues with the scheme itself.

The newly constructed Joint Logistics Over-The-Shore (JLOTS) pier, with a price tag of $320 million, aims to serve as a vessel to transport humanitarian aid from a floating pier to the shores of Gaza. But just a few days after its launch, delays, security concerns and logistical delays have hampered the pier's success.

Only two-thirds of the aid from the pier is going or has gone to the Palestinians, White House National Security Council Advisor Jake Sullivan told reporters on Wednesday.

Security concerns onshore present a challenge to ensuring aid is properly distributed to the Palestinians. Crowds overwhelmed and looted several trucks carrying aid that was delivered to the causeway on Saturday, with people stripping resources from 11 of the 16 trucks en route to warehouses set up for proper distribution. The UN is now evaluating alternatives to the pier.

Comment: And yet they starve... In no time this semi-useless protrusion will be repurposed.

US plans to be 'very involved' in post-war Gaza - Politico

Washington reportedly wants to maintain influence in the enclave through a "civilian adviser" to new regional security forces.

The US wants a "prominent" role in Gaza after Israel's military operation in the Palestinian enclave ends, Politico has reported. Washington expects a joint Palestinian-Arab force of several thousand troops to take charge of security in Gaza after the current conflict.

On Thursday, Politico reported details of discussions within the administration of US President Joe Biden about what a post-war settlement should look like, citing four officials and a leaked document from the Department of State.

The US reportedly wants to retain a "civilian adviser" to any future security force, likely based in Egypt or Jordan. American forces, however, would "never enter Gaza itself" in order to avoid the impression that Washington was "dictating the future of the territory."

A classified document from March envisioned an American filling the role of a "director-general" of the future security mission, according to the outlet. Under that proposal, the force would consist of roughly 2,000 Palestinians and 1,000 troops from Arab-speaking nations. It would be commanded by an officer from Israel, the Palestinian Authority, or "ideally" Egypt.

Comment: 'US involved' has become a well-known curse.

'New evidence' that 'proves' Hunter Biden lied under oath three times during deposition released by Republicans

House Republicans have released new documents from IRS whistleblowers Gary Shapley and Joseph Ziegler that they say proves Hunter Biden lied in his interview with congressional investigators on at least three occasions.

The House Ways and Means Committee voted in closed-door session to make the information public.

Instead of impeaching President Joe Biden, lead Republicans are now focused in on criminal referrals to the Justice Department for prosecution.

They say Hunter lied about using his last name to help business partners with visa issues, his association with a company that was taking in massive foreign payments and threatening a Chinese businessman over WhatsApp.

Ways and Means Chairman Jason Smith said in a statement:
'Lying during sworn testimony is a felony offense that the Department of Justice has prosecuted numerous individuals for in recent years, and the American people expect the same accountability for the son of the President of the United States.

'Hunter Biden's lies under oath, and obstruction of a congressional investigation into his family's potential corruption, calls into question other pieces of his testimony. The newly released evidence affirms, once again, the only witnesses who can be trusted to tell the truth in this investigation are the IRS whistleblowers.'

Comment: Hunter lied. Did anyone expect anything else?

'Israel intensifies attack on Rafah despite new ICJ order to stop immediately' - UN Special Rapporteur

The UN's special rapporteur on Palestine on Saturday urged member states to impose sanctions on Israel along with an arms embargo until it stops "this madness," Anadolu reports.

"Let's be clear. As the ICJ orders Israel to stop its offensive in Rafah, Israel intensifies its attacks on it," Francesca Albanese said on X.

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) in its latest ruling ordered Israel to immediately halt its military offensive in Rafah, a city in southern Gaza where more than 1.5 million displaced Palestinians had sought refuge.

"The news I am receiving from the people trapped therein are terrifying," she said.

Comment: One gets the impression that, whilst indeed Israel is brazen, what with the developments on the world stage, such as the efficacy of the student protests, the recognition of Palestine as a state, as well as the ICC warrant for Netanyahu, Tel Aviv's pathocrats may also be getting rather desperate: Wave of resignations among senior Israeli army officers - Israeli media

Best of the Web: Biden judicial nominee okayed secret search of journalist's emails over Ashley Biden's diary

Judge Sarah Netburn
© U.S. SenateJudge Sarah Netburn
A few years before she was nominated by Joe Biden to a lifetime judicial appointment, Judge Sarah Netburn signed off on an order that compelled Google to secretly hand over to criminal investigators information from the email account of the journalist who had obtained Ashley Biden's diary.

Netburn has been eviscerated by Republican senators for alleged partisanship during her confirmation hearings this week, chiefly for allowing a repeat sexual offender to be housed in a female prison because he said he was a woman. Senators including Texas' Ted Cruz have accused her of putting ideology over jurisprudence.

Unmentioned, however, have been her actions in 2020. Netburn as a federal magistrate judge in New York signed the order compelling Google to provide information from a Project Veritas journalist's personal email account, court records show. Project Veritas purchased the diary after a woman said she found it when she moved into a room previously occupied by Ashley Biden.

Comment: Netburn's decision to allow the illegal snooping into private correspondence regarding Ashley's diary is entirely in keeping with her politics of protecting sexual predators. She never should have been allowed on any judicial bench.
