Warmongers in their ivory towers: Tulsi Gabbard is "Ron Paul of the Left"

tulsi gabbard
While it seems the mainstream media paused last week's avalanche of attacks on progressive Hawaiian Democratic rep. Tulsi Gabbard, which painted her as a Russian stooge for daring to oppose Washington's addiction to regime change wars abroad, in favor of new controversy surrounding another progressive, Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and charges of anti-Semitism leveled at her for criticism of pro-Israel money in US politics, Gabbard hasn't let up a bit in terms of the intensity of her attacks on the warmongering establishment within both parties. In a new televised message Gabbard excoriated the pundit class for constantly dreaming up "new places for people to die".

Gabbard released the half-minute video on Tuesday appropriately called "Warmongers in their ivory towers" wherein the US Army reserve officer and Iraq War veteran slammed the Washington culture of "powerful" decision-makers who "sit in ivory towers" and send other people's children to war, while themselves never stepping close to a battlefield.

Comment: The depiction of Gabbard as "the left's Ron Paul" is apt, on foreign policy at the very least. It's no wonder the MSM is working overtime to smear and defame her.

At least 70 civilians were killed or injured over two days as Kurdish militias advance on an ISIS-held town in eastern Syria. The US-led coalition supports the operation with deadly airstrikes.

The offensive was launched on Monday and is touted as an attempt to capture the last remaining territory held by Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS) terrorist group on Syria's border with Iraq. Al-Baghuz Fawqani is a small town on the Euphrates River that had a population of some 10,000 before the war in the country started in 2011.

The forces of the Kurd-dominated SDF are being supported by the US-led coalition, which provides air support to the militias on the ground. According to SANA, the Syrian government news agency, at least 70 civilians were killed or injured on the outskirts of the town by the airstrikes.

Comment: And the litany of war crimes by the West continues to mount while, out of the other side of its mouth, it's claiming it will be withdrawing its forces from Syria:

Scheer calls for emergency meeting over Trudeau's potential interference in justice system

justin trudeau meng whanzou arrest
Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer is calling for an emergency committee meeting over allegations that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's office interfered in the justice system.

On Thursday, Trudeau denied a report that the Prime Minister's Office pressured former attorney general Jody Wilson-Raybould to help SNC-Lavalin avoid going to trial on fraud and corruption allegations and instead cut a deal known as a "remediation agreement."

Speaking in front of reporters Friday, Scheer said the Conservatives and NDP will try and force the emergency meeting of the House of Commons justice committee with the goal of passing a motion calling on nine high-ranking officials to testify about the alleged interference in the SNC-Lavalin case.

Israel supporters go nuts after Ilhan Omar points out that AIPAC influences Congress

Ilhan Omar

As you surely know by now, the United States political class is talking about whether AIPAC, the leading pro-Israel group the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, wields its influence in Congress using money.

Last night Glenn Greenwald seized on the news that House minority leader Kevin McCarthy intends to investigate two Muslim congresswomen, Rashida Tlaib of Michigan and Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, over their criticisms of Israel and remarked "It's stunning how much time US political leaders spend defending a foreign nation even if it means attacking free speech rights of Americans."

Ilhan Omar responded with her usual pithiness.

Saudi Arabia using hacked Twitter accounts to push state propaganda

Access to verified Twitter accounts can be sold for $1,200 or more on forums frequented by hackers
Several verified Twitter accounts have been taken over by pro-Saudi operatives and some have been used to promote Saudi Arabia or its leadership, according to an academic who researches digital propaganda and Twitter bots.

At least four verified Twitter accounts, including one that belonged to a US meteorologist who died over two years ago, appear to have been hacked and sold to pro-Saudi entities, Marc Owen Jones wrote in a blog post on Saturday.

A verified Twitter account usually signals that the person maintaining it is who they claim to be.

One of the verified hacked accounts originally belonged to Weather Channel meteorologist David Schwartz who died in 2016.

Maduro slams the White House as 'gang of extremists' and Trump as 'white supremacist'

Venezuela's embattled President Nicolás Maduro has called Donald Trump's government a "gang of extremists" and blamed the US for his country's crisis.

In an interview with the BBC, Mr Maduro said he would not allow humanitarian aid into Venezuela as it was a way for the US to justify an intervention.

"They are warmongering in order to take over Venezuela," he said.

The US and most Western governments have recognised opposition leader Juan Guaidó as interim president.

Comment: Maduro is really just rallying his cause here, which is justifiably against the mechanizations of the Deep State. It's likely he understands it's not really about Trump, but more that Trump serves as a well-made target. In essence, he is using US propaganda against itself.

A censored documentary has surfaced online, detailing alleged Israeli lobbying campaigns in the United States. The documentary, filmed by Al Jazeera, exposes how pro-Israeli organisations monitor the activities of American students and try to influence US lawmakers.

Electronic Intifada, an online news publication covering the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, has obtained a never-released Al Jazeera investigation into how pro-Israeli advocacy groups influence US politics.

The four-part documentary, titled The Lobby - USA, was filmed by an Al Jazeera undercover journalist, called "Tony", who infiltrated the Israeli lobby during a five-month operation and earned the trust of its leaders.

On Tuesday, Syrian media reported that air strikes by the US-led international coalition on a refugee camp in the Syrian village of Bagus in the country's southeast killed or injured on Tuesday at least 70 civilians.

The Syrian Foreign Ministry has accused the US-led coalition of crimes against humanity, citing airstrikes targeting the Bagus village which killed dozens of civilians, according to a ministry statement obtained by Sputnik.

"The international coalition's attacks targeting innocent civilians and using prohibited weapons have become a regular and normal tactic that violates the international law and human rights. This crime is a military offence against humanity," the ministry's statement reads.

Comment: Below is a brief selection of some of the US-led airstrikes on Syria, and in nearly every bombing civilians are murdered:

New leaks show UK-funded Integrity Initiative project sought £5.5m for Balkans influence campaign

Hackers have released a sixth batch of Integrity Initiative leaks, this time focusing on how the project sought £5.5 million in funding from the British government to establish an influence campaign in the Western Balkans.

According to the leaks, Chris Donnelly, who heads the Institute for Statecraft (IfS) - the Integrity Initiative's parent organization - used his NATO contacts and extensive background in military intelligence to try to secure the money for the program.

The Integrity Initiative (II) had been positioning itself as an "independent" anti-disinformation charity until hackers began dumping batches of internal documents last November which revealed its government funding and the fact that it was running Europe-wide anti-Russia influence campaigns using "clusters" of cooperative journalists, academics and politicians. In response to the leaks, the II wiped all content from its website and claimed that while some of the documents were "genuine," others were "falsified" - but did not provide any proof that this was the case.

The latest leaks show that the Balkan program would be run in conjunction with global marketing and communications firm Edelman, which Donnelly said could help produce "advertising campaigns on TV promoting change," English-language training promoting the "right messages" and even "a TV soap opera looking at the problem of corruption."

Soros to Europe: Please wake up

Guy/No EU
© Wojeck Radwamski/AFP/Getty Images
The first step to defending Europe from its enemies, both internal and external, is to recognize the magnitude of the threat they present. The second is to awaken the sleeping pro-European majority and mobilize it to defend the values on which the EU was founded.

Europe is sleepwalking into oblivion, and the people of Europe need to wake up before it is too late. If they don't, the European Union will go the way of the Soviet Union in 1991. Neither our leaders nor ordinary citizens seem to understand that we are experiencing a revolutionary moment, that the range of possibilities is very broad, and that the eventual outcome is thus highly uncertain.

Most of us assume that the future will more or less resemble the present, but this is not necessarily so. In a long and eventful life, I have witnessed many periods of what I call radical disequilibrium. We are living in such a period today.

Comment: This argument is predicated on the idea the EU is the only solution for Europe, dissolving individual nations into one large union insistent on uniformity in policy, structure and compliance. Not all states within Europe are willing to forgo independence and become just one of many, bowing and beholden to a common framework. Today's decisions become tomorrow's history. What should that be?
