The U.S.-Israeli war on Iran... in Syria

obama netanyahu
The ongoing conflict in Syria has always been a proxy conflict aimed at Iran, as well as nearby Russia, and more distant China. As far back as 2007, two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Seymour Hersh warned in his 9-page New Yorker report "The Redirection Is the Administration's new policy benefitting our enemies in the war on terrorism?," that a region-wide sectarian war was being engineered by the US, Saudi Arabia, and Israel - all of whom were working in concert even in 2007, to build the foundation of a sectarian militant army.

The report would cite various serving and former US officials who warned that the extremists the West was backing were "preparing for cataclysmic conflict."

In retrospect, considering the emergence of the so-called "Islamic State" (ISIS), Hersh's warning has turned out to be prophetic. The destabilization of Syria and Lebanon were noted in particular as prerequisites for a coming war with Iran. Confirming this would be the lengthy policy treatise published by the Brookings Institution in 2009 titled, "Which Path to Persia?"

In it, it is openly discussed that regime change for the purpose of establishing regional hegemony is the only goal of the United States and its regional partners, with attempts to frame the conflict with Iran as an issue of "national security" and "global stability" serving as mere canards.

Comment: The plan goes back further than the Brookings report, as Brandon Martinez revealed in his interview with The Truth Perspective on SOTT Radio Network this last weekend. You can listen to the show here. But it is nice to have it all spelled out in writing, so we have to thank Brookings for that!

Czech president Miloš Zeman shows US ambassador the door over comments on Moscow WWII visit

Leader of the Czech Republc, Miloš Zeman, says he won't let any ambassador of another nation intrude with advice over his foreign visits. This comes as the US Ambassador criticized Zeman's plans to go to Moscow's celebration of the WWII parade.

"I'm afraid, after this statement the doors of the Prague Castle are closed for Ambassador Schapiro," Zeman told Parlamentni Listy webportal on Saturday. Prague Castle is the president's official residence and office.

Earlier, the US ambassador to the Czech Republic, Andrew Schapiro, criticized Zeman's decision to go to Russia for Victory Day celebrations in May. He called the plans "short-sighted", as it would "be awkward" if the Czech president was the only statesman from an EU country on Red Square.

"I cannot imagine a Czech ambassador in Washington giving advice to the US president on where he should travel," Zeman said. "I will not let any ambassador interfere with the program of my foreign trips."

Comment: Turns out Zeman will not be the only EU statesman to attend Russia's WWII. He'll be joined with the fine company of Greece's Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras. How awkward for the United States. This isn't the only recent sign of Western powers breaking ranks with the US agenda. China's new Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank has seen a Western stampede to join to despite protest from the US.

Unsmiling Gen. Buhari takes charge in Nigeria

Muhammadu Buhari

72 year old Muhammadu Buhari
Africa's most populous nation has just achieved something very important. This week Nigeria's voters handed a landslide victory to former president, Muhammadu Buhari.

Equally impressive, the incumbent president, Goodluck Jonathan, became the first Nigerian leader in 55 years to democratically cede power to his rival.

President-elect Buhari, a dour, ascetic, unsmiling former general, proclaimed his primary goal is to attack all-pervasive corruption and crush the Boko Haram uprising in the north. Interestingly, Buhari, a Muslim, received substantial support in the Christian south in this normally religiously-divided nation of 177 million.

Comment: Let us see how 'compliant' he is towards the West.

Yemeni rebels made new gains in battleground southern city Aden Sunday as a Saudi-led coalition trying to halt their advance faced growing calls for a humanitarian pause in air strikes

The Red Cross has appealed for an immediate truce in the fighting to allow families to seek water, food and medical assistance, describing the situation as "dire".

Russia presented a draft resolution to the UN Security Council on Saturday calling for a humanitarian pause in the Saudi-led air war against the Huthi Shiite rebels, now in its 11th day.

The coalition kept up its nighttime raids against rebel positions and arms depots, particularly around the capital Sanaa and Saada, the northern stronghold of the Iran-backed rebels.

In main southern city Aden, the rebels advanced into the central district of Mualla, capturing the provincial government headquarters, a local official said.

The Greece-Russia overture

Greece's Alexis Tsipras
Greek Energy Minister Panagiotis Lafazanis visited Moscow on March 29-30, 2015, during which he held several rounds of talks with his Russian counterpart Alexandar Novak and Gazprom's CEO Alexei Miller. Prime Minister of Greece Alexis Tsipras is also expected to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on April 8.

Furthermore, Tsipras will be in Moscow on May 9 to attend the celebration of the allied victory in World War II, while many European leaders have decided to skip the ceremony because of Russia's annexation of Crimea. EU Commission Spokeswoman Mina Adreeva said about the array of visits: "Freedom of speech and assembly exist, so we have no comment on Greek politicians' visits to Russia."

The energy aspect of Greece-Russia negotiations

Lafazanis told Sputnik following his visit to Moscow: "My meetings, especially those with Miller and Russian energy minister Novak, were very substantive, extremely constructive, and, I should say, they opened a new chapter in the energy partnership between the two countries."

Russia provides Greece with around 65% of its natural gas and the latter may ask for a discount on the resource. Greek state-owned gas utility DEPA has already obtained a retroactive 15% cut in gas prices last year.

Lafazanis also declared Greece's support for Turkish Stream, the 63 bcm gas pipeline that Russia is planning to build under the surface of Black Sea en route to Turkey as a replacement for South Stream. He expressed Greece's keen interest in extending Turkish Stream from the Greek-Turkish border into Greek territory.

Western competition for the absurd gets fierce as suggestions arise to commemorate WWII V-E Day in Nazi-backed Kiev instead of Moscow

Mamayev Kurgan WWII memorial overlooking the city of Volgograd in Southern Russia commemorating the Battle of Stalingrad.
On March 19, the Los Angeles Times published the article called Kiev, not Moscow, Should be the Choice for Marking V-E Day written by Steven Pifer, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution, John Herbst, the director of the Dinu Patriciu Eurasia Center at the Atlantic Council and Bill Taylor, the acting executive Vice President at the United States Institute of Peace. All three are former U.S. ambassadors to Ukraine. It begins with praises for German Chancellor Angela Merkel and British Prime Minister David Cameron for their refusal to come to Moscow in May for taking part in the celebration of the victory over Nazism.

The authors believe that Merkel, Cameron and Obama should go to Kiev instead of Moscow to commemorate the V-E Day, so that they could mark it "on their terms, not Putin's". That's it!
"Given the conflict that Russia has conducted against Ukraine, Western leaders could not sit in a reviewing stand on Red Square and watch parading Russian troops, whose comrades had so recently waged — and might continue to wage — war in eastern Ukraine, just 500 miles to the south", write Pifer, Herbst and Taylor.
In this case the veterans of US diplomatic service concentrate on fulfilment of an assigned political objective - to symbolically deprive Russia, the only successor of the Soviet Union, of its right to claim legacy. They are not confused by the fact that they are not the first ones to float the idea. Poland had put forward the proposals of this kind before them. For instance, Polish President Komorowski mooted the idea of holding VE-Day celebrations on 8 May at Gdańsk's Westerplatte, where the war erupted in 1939. Polish Foreign Minister Grzegorz Schetyna said it would be more apt to celebrate victory over Hitler in London, Berlin or Poland. Estonian President Toomas Hendrik Ilves announced he did not intend to go to Moscow on May 9 and take part in events to mark the 70th anniversary of the Victory.
"We do not remember and honor someone's victory or defeat. We honor the memory of the victims and remember the courage of soldiers and resistance fighters defending their country," he said.
Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk has enriched our knowledge of world history by saying publicly that the Soviet Union "invaded Ukraine and Germany".

Comment: Yet another example of Western powers trying to rewrite Russia out out of the history books while supporting outright fascism in Ukraine. As Eric Draitser wrote in Why Leftists should defend Russia (or remain the left flank of the Empire):
Since the end of the Soviet Union, many right wing, reactionary, and often fascist, tendencies have emerged throughout the former Soviet bloc. These movements, far from preaching "conservative values" in any way recognizable in the West, rather root their politics in a vehement hatred of the Soviet Union/Russia and communism in general. Their hatred however is not manifested in some search for historical truth, but rather in an insidious attempt to rewrite history, casting themselves and their fascist antecedents as "patriots struggling against Bolshevism."

This whitewashing of history is being vigorously promoted by the US and many of its European toadies who, for political reasons, want the historical narrative to be written in such a way as to make an equivalence between the Soviets/communism and the Nazis/fascism. It does not take exceptional perceptive powers to see the agenda behind this. In making such an equivalence, the US is then able to present itself as the great hero of the 20th Century, having defeated the "twin evils" of fascism and communism. Of course, such historical fiction is what passes for truth these days in the West.

Perhaps this agenda, long understood by many on the Left, though increasingly forgotten by the 21st Century 'Left', goes a long way to explaining the seemingly limitless support that the West provides to fascists in Ukraine where, just as more than 70 years ago, fascists are mobilized to counter the Soviets/Russians. Of course, it should be remembered that the Ukrainian Nazis, followers of the degenerate collaborator Bandera, care not that Russia is not communist, as for them it is the "Moskals" (pejorative term for Russians) that must be "cleansed from the nation." It is this blind hatred of Russia that makes them the darling of the US, which is the primary reason why they are described as "nationalists" and not rightly as Nazis.

Is Homeland Security arming for mass riots?

homeland security
One of the biggest stories for years in the alternative media was the mysterious and foreboding purchase by Homeland Security of more than 1.6 billion rounds of ammunition.

Thanks to coverage on prominent sites like DrudgeReport, the story reached into mainstream media, prompting official spin and downplaying of the purchase.

Now, a new Homeland Security purchase order listed on FedBizOpps also raises an eyebrow or two, given the heated and divided political and social climate at hand. Just look at what happened in Ferguson...

A request for "less lethal specialty munitions" for use by Homeland Security dated March 23, 2015 reads:

Cui bono? Blast in Cairo kills 8, increasing tension between students and police

A policeman and several others were killed in an explosion last Saturday
Four policemen and four civilians were injured in an explosion Saturday at the metro station near Cairo University, located in Giza, state-run media Al-Ahram reported. The Ministry of Interior has yet to comment on the incident.

No group has claimed responsibility for the explosion either, but it is possible that the targets were the police officers and conscripts securing the university. Almost a year ago, Tarek El-Mergawy, Director of Western Giza Investigation, was killed in a double blast outside the university.

Comment: Another likely possibility is that Western or Israeli inspired actors detonated the blast to insure continued chaos in the region and fear of 'terrorists'.

China-led Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank faces American resistance

AIIB IMF
© Konstantin Maler
China's decision to set up a 100 billion dollars Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank is coming to fruition. Chinese officials claim that at least 35 countries will join the new umbrella financial conglomerate by March 31 deadline. It looks more and more like a watershed event marking a new flexible and sophisticated approach by China to engaging both the developing countries in need of loans to spur their economies and the industrial nations in search of lucrative deals.

American resistance to have its time-honored allies joining the China-led financial structure was expected. It reflects the logic of the zero-sum approach to China's ascension to global prominence. It is also an indication of the slow erosion of the US grip on global finances. The many billion dollar question is how it would affect Russia's standing and perspectives. So far, Moscow has opted to remain outside the new alliance. Is that a wise or an unwise stance?

Recent Wars of Sanctions, troubles in various parts of the globe, from the MENA region to Hong Kong, coupled with attempts of the United States to bring economic relief to its own citizens by striking a comprehensive trade deal with the European Union, at the expense of the European business and taxpayers, all of this has undermined the credibility of the international dominant financial institutions.

On top of that, the U.S. Congress has shortsightedly prevented China and the emerging economies to have a bigger say in running the International Monetary Fund. This opposition has led to a backlash resulting in an unexpected backing of the Beijing's promoted Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank.
