Former Sec. of State James Baker: Failed states in Middle East the result of US interventions

The instability in governance throughout the Middle East is due in part to US interventions to overthrow autocratic leaders in the region, former US Secretary of State James Baker III said in a congressional hearing on Thursday.

Baker, who served as Secretary of State from 1989 to 1992, argued that in the cases of Libya, Egypt and Iraq, the United States "should not be so quick to come in and get rid of leaders that we don't agree with 1,000 percent of the time."

"These areas that are failed states are failed states primarily because we went in there — or at least in part — and upset the order because we didn't like the people who were running the show," Baker told the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

Over the past two decades, the United States has militarily deposed the Iraqi government, and worked with its European allies to depose Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi. In recent years, significant portions of those countries have become ungovernable, leading to the emergence of terrorist safe-havens.

The United States also refused to support its longtime ally in Egypt, President Hosni Mubarak, during the Arab Spring uprisings in 2011 that led to the seizure of the government by the extremist group Muslim Brotherhood.

Bombshell: Turkish opposition MP releases 422 pages proving Turkish collusion with Daesh

These 422 pages of classified documents contain blood-chilling information regarding terrorist activities in Turkey.

These documents classified as 'secret' material, contain huge amounts of information regarding the activities of Daesh militants in Kilis and Gaziantep.

They also show that all the crossings of thousands of terrorists at the Turkish-Syrian border were known to the Turkish authorities, and despite that, they did not take any action.

Erdem, commenting on this information, said that in Kilis, Gaziantep and across Turkey dangerous processes are taking place to which the government turns a blind eye. "I am speaking here as a deputy, whose duty is to control what is happening. The documents that I present to you, is a living proof of what kind of dirty games the AKP government is involved in."

Comment: Erdem sent the docs to RT, who are currently reviewing them. Meanwhile, Sputnik received this exclusive: Daesh Terrorists Secretly Treated at Turkish Hospital:

Four wounded Daesh fighters have been treated at the Ersin Arslan regional hospital, located in the Turkish city of Gaziantep, an unnamed source told Sputnik. They were admitted on May 5, the medical worker, who spoke on condition of anonymity, added. One of them, named Bagur Ferhad, is an Afghan national born in 1993, the source said."I examined Daesh fighters. They had gunshot wounds. None of them received life-threatening injuries," the medical worker detailed.

Earlier, Turkish forces opened fire when a group of foreign fighters tried to cross into Syria near Oğuzeli, a city in the Gaziantep province. Three militants were killed, 11 were injured. Four of them were brought to the Ersin Arslan regional hospital. No record of their stay has been made."I think that the hospital's authorities don't want the public to find out that these people received medical treatment here. Doctors and health workers working here don't want to treat Daesh fighters. Some of the doctors come from Kilis, a town that is daily shelled from Syrian territories under Daesh control," the source explained.

Tel Aviv & Abu Dhabi hostilities all for show: Israel, Saudi officials have close relationship, mutual interests as revealed in secret meetings

Israel Saudi Arabia allied against Syria
After a series of secret meetings between Saudi and Israeli officials were exposed by a select few of mainstream press outlets, both the Saudis and the Israelis are now becoming more open about the relationship between the two governments. Although, for years, GCC countries like Saudi Arabia have held a public position of hostility toward Israel, many researchers and observers have long been aware of secret cooperation between the two and that public statements were largely designed to provide a cover of Arab identity and self-interest for the benefit of public consumption.

After all, the two share common goals when it comes to Iran, Hezbollah, and Syria and all have the common ally of the United States.

Comment: Two psychopathic governments forming an alliance of convenience. And what of the "Palestinian brothers"? They don't figure into it.

The US 'doesn't give a damn' about international law

UN Security Council Meeting
© Russia Insider
For the US, the UN is merely a means to an end.
In a report published in the American journal, National Security News, on May 9th, the day of the celebration of the victory of Soviet and allied forces over the fascist forces in1945, it was stated that, "in terms of the eastern threat-which is a reference to Russia-EUCOM (the American Forces European Command) will be moving from a training to a war fighting stance."

The article continues, "this does not mean that the U.S. is planning a war with Russia, merely that it will shift its force structure in a manner aimed at deterring Moscow and defending NATO and European partners should Russian President Vladimir Putin attempt what he has done in Ukraine."

Of course, the authors do not state what Russia "attempted in Ukraine," because that phrase is a cover for the American arranged putsch that put in power the US puppet government in Kiev. That regime then attacked the peoples of the eastern Ukraine because they refused to accept the American backed coup against their democratically elected president and the crushing of their culture. And when Americans say that they "are not planning a war", we know that is exactly what they are planning. What are the wars in Ukraine, in Syria, the destruction of Yugoslavia and Libya, but a part of the war against Russia?

The article then refers to the "deteriorating relations between the U.S. and Russia, and Moscow's continuing "aggressive, belligerent actions against U.S. warships and aircraft in international spaces." This, again, is code meaning that "Russia will not let us walk all over them in the Baltic, Ukraine, Syria or anywhere else."

It confirms that preparations for war continue steadily, as I have related in previous articles, comparing the NATO build up of forces in the east of Europe to the build of German forces prior to the launching of Operation Barbarossa, the Nazis' surprise attack on the Soviet Union, on June 21, 1941. The similarities mount with each passing month. The Russian government, well aware of what is happening, has responded with close surveillance of American combat ships entering the Baltic which threaten Kaliningrad, St. Petersburg and Russian access to the Atlantic. It has also created three new army divisions; two of which are to be placed on the western front facing NATO forces in Eastern Europe and one on the southern flank.

Just recently, the Americans transferred their top general in Korea, General Scaparotti to the command of American forces in Europe, replacing the bellicose General Breedlove. The change is more than routine or cosmetic since Breedlove was an air force officer. Scaparotti, even more bellicose than Breedlove, is an army combat general with experience in several US attacks on sovereign nations

Turkey threatens 'unilateral' military operations in Syria

Erdogan Finger O
© rcweekly.reasonedcomments.org
This has zero to do with sovereign rights of other states...it's about Turkey's right to invade.
Inching closer to a military invasion of Syria, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has threatened to launch "operations" to "clean the other side of the border." Throughout 2016 there have been growing signs of Ankara's intention to deploy ground forces in Syria. In February, the Russian government reported "a growing number of signs of hidden preparation of the Turkish armed forces for active actions on the territory of Syria."

At the time, Ankara rejected these claims, even as it launched military actions against Kurds in southeastern Turkey and sent troops into northern Iraq, over the objections of Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi.

On Thursday, President Erdogan gave further indication that his government is actively considering the deployment of troops into Syria. "[Turkey] is doing all the necessary preparations to clean the other side of the border..." he said, adding that such an operation would be justified in order to defend Kilis Province from mortar fire.

Erdogan added that he was disappointed with the lack of support from other nations involved in the five-year Syrian civil war. "We do not believe the sincerity of any country that has not seen rockets falling on our town as if they fell on Moscow, London, Brussels, Paris or Berlin," he said. "Let me say it here. We will not hesitate to take needed steps on our own if necessary."

The president's comments come as no surprise as, in February, he indicated that Syria's sovereignty was less important than Turkey's own. "This has absolutely nothing to do with sovereign rights of states that cannot maintain their territorial integrity. On the contrary, this is about protecting Turkey's sovereign rights," Erdogan said during a UNESCO Creative Cities Network event in Istanbul. "We consider any attempt to prevent us from using this right, no matter where it comes from, as a direct attempt against Turkey's existence."

U.S. "continues to have dialogue with" terrorist groups in Syria

Russia asked the UN to blacklist Ahrar al Sham and Jaish al Islam as terrorist groups. The U.S. rejected that. "We continue to have dialogue with them," said the State Department.

A day later Ahrar al Sham joins al-Qaeda in breaking the ceasefire in Syria and in assaulting and ethnically cleansing a village loyal to the Syrian government. Meanwhile Amnesty International accuses both groups of indiscriminate attacks on civilians, including by use of chemical weapons, and of other war crimes.

Red Flag

Hyping of Saudi role in 9/11 a diversionary tactic by U.S. and Israel

28 pages 911 news

"All this nonsense and game playing with this so-called 28 pages is a ploy to divert attention from the actual criminals," American sociopolitical psychologist Walt Peretto says.
The Israeli spy agency Mossad is trying to cover its tracks as the real perpetrator of the September 11, 2001, terror attacks by hyping a congressional report that may implicate Saudi Arabia, says an American author and sociopolitical psychologist.

Walt Peretto made the remarks in an interview with Press TV on Thursday while discussing the media frenzy over Saudi Arabia's role amid revelations by a former member of the 9/11 Commission.

John Lehman, who served as the US Navy Secretary in the Ronald Reagan administration, said in an interview on Wednesday that the Saudi monarchy provided support to the 19 hijackers who carried out the terrorist attacks.

"This shows that 15 years after the crime, those responsible and their well-paid lackeys are still in the process of covering up and diverting attention from the evidence that proves beyond the reasonable doubt that 9/11 was a transnational intelligence agency operation on behalf of the international banking and finance community and their puppets in the American government," Peretto said.

Comment: SOTT has been asking the same questions - though, to us, it also looks like the U.S. may be using the infamous 28 pages as a form of leverage over Saudi Arabia:
So why now, and why Saudi Arabia? First, given the connections to numerous other governments, including that of the U.S. itself, to the 9/11 attacks, this focus on 'the 28 pages' and the Saudi connection they expose has all the hallmarks of a limited hangout. All the U.S. officials calling for the declassification of these pages say they think there is no reason they should remain classified. They wouldn't be saying this if it really exposed themselves or their close allies. 9/11 Commissioner John Lehman even told 60 Minutes: "This is not going to be a smoking gun that is going to cause a huge furor." So don't expect these pages to contain anything mind-blowing.

But in another interview, Graham had something interesting to say: "I was surprised at the evidence that there were foreign governments involved..." Governments, plural. Saudi Arabia's complicity threatens to be exposed, yet no mention is made of Pakistan, Turkey, Israel, or the United States. Turkey is currently in the process of being hung out to dry by its former Neocon patrons, but so far there's no indication that Turkish agents' role in 9/11 will be revealed. As long as AIPAC retains its power over U.S. policymakers, Israel's involvement will remain classified. As for why Saudi Arabia is being exposed, I can only guess. Is Saudi Arabia distancing itself from U.S. control and influence and getting closer with Russia?

Moscow rejects NATO's obvious lie that anti-missile site in Romania is not a threat to Russia

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg (C) reviews an honour guard during an inauguration ceremony of the US anti-missile station Aegis Ashore Romania (in the background) at the military base in Deveselu, Romania on May 12, 2016
The newly inaugurated anti-missile site in Romania certainly poses a threat to Russia's national security, the Kremlin said in response to NATO claims to the contrary.

"We have been saying right from when this story started that our experts are convinced that the deployment of the ABM system poses a certain threat to the Russian Federation," presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Thursday.

"Measures are being taken to ensure the necessary level of security for Russia. The president himself (Vladimir Putin), let me remind you, has repeatedly asked who the system will work against?", Peskov said.

The response comes after NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg reiterated the site is not a threat to Russia.

"This system is directed against threats coming from outside the Euro Atlantic space," he said at a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the remote Deveselu airbase in southern Romania.

WikiLeaks: Brazil's acting president used to be US embassy informant

Michel Temer and wife Marcela Temer

Temer and his 32-year-old wife Marcela Temer, an ex-beauty pageant contestant who tattooed Temer's name on her neck.
Brazil's new interim president, Michel Temer, was an embassy informant for US intelligence, WikiLeaks has revealed.

According to the whistleblowing website, Temer communicated with the US embassy in Brazil via telegram, and such content would be classified as "sensitive" and "for official use only."

Two cables were released, dated January 11, 2006 and June 21, 2006.

One shows a document sent from Sao Paolo, Brazil, to - among other recipients - the US Southern Command in Miami. In it, Temer discusses the political situation in Brazil during the presidency of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

Amnesty reports chemical weapons could have been used by Western-backed terrorists in Aleppo

Chemical weapons could have been used in the predominantly Kurdish Sheikh Maqsoud district in Aleppo, the largest city in Syria, Amnesty International (AI) reports.

On January 4, the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) announced that all chemical weapons in Syria had been destroyed, however, in April reports emerged that radical militants could be using and producing chemical weapons in Syria.

"Among the weapons used by the armed groups are unguided projectiles which cannot be accurately aimed at specific targets, including home-made 'Hamim' rockets and projectiles fitted with gas canisters known as 'hell cannons'," the rights group said in a Friday release.

According to AI, the attacks "possibly including with chemical weapons" have destroyed civilian homes, markets and mosques in the city and have killed and injured civilians.

Comment: So first the US claims that Assad used chemical weapons against his own people, and then attempted to oust him from power using that dubious claim, and now terrorists trained and armed by the West are likely using chemical weapons against the Syrian people. The West's hypocrisy knows no bounds.
