Downing Street adviser Patrick Rock charged with making and possessing indecent images of children.
A former Downing Street adviser has been charged with making and possessing indecent images of children.

Patrick Rock, who was involved in Government policy on filtering online child abuse images, resigned shortly before his arrest in February.

The 63-year-old has had a glittering career as a Conservative Party adviser spanning 30 years and in the 1970s was credited with coining the slogan "cows moo, dogs bark, Labour puts up taxes".

On Friday, he was charged with three offences of making indecent images of children and one offence of possession of 59 indecent images of children.

The four charges cover alleged offences committed between 31 July and 31 August 2013.

The pictures have been classed as level C by the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (CEOP), defined as "indecent images depicting erotic posing with no sexual activity".

Comment: So, was Rock actually a pedophile? A pedophile hung out to dry when he posed some sort of threat to the system? Or framed because of what he might have known from working on government policy on child abuse? Se also:

Fighting (real) terrorism: First batch of Russian fighter jets arrives in Iraq

The first ten Russian Sukhoi fighter jets arrived in Iraq on Saturday, the country's Defense Ministry said. Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki is hoping the jets will make a key difference in the fight against ISIS.

"The fighter jets landed today in the morning on different military airfields," MP Abbas al-Bayati told Iraqi media.

The official spokesperson for the Iraqi Ministry of Defense, Mohammed al-Askari, also confirmed the information, Al Iraqiya TV channel reported.

The fighter jets will be stationed at an airbase located in the southern part of the country, PressTV reported, citing military sources.

Earlier this week, Prime Minister Maliki revealed that Iraq purchased jets from Russia and Belarus in order to help its fight against Sunni militants from the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIS/ISIL).

At the same time, Maliki criticized the US for taking too long to deliver on its own contract after Iraq purchased F-16 jets from America.

Comment: While the U.S. drags its feet, Russia fulfills its obligations, showing the vast disparity in attitudes between the two nations when it comes to 'fighting terror'. The U.S. doesn't really care about fighting terror; terrorism serves their purposes in fighting proxy wars, destabilizing 'enemy' nations, and creating an external threat in order to justify U.S. militarism and imperialism.

Ceasefire broken (again!): At least 3 killed in Kiev shelling of residential Slavyansk

In an apparent breach of the ceasefire, Ukrainian forces shelled residential parts of Slavyansk for nearly an hour on Sunday, destroying buildings and killing at least 3 civilians. Ukrainian media claimed that a pro-Kiev checkpoint had been attacked.

Despite the ceasefire in eastern Ukraine being prolonged till June 30 by Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, it appears that the National Guard units fighting in Slavyansk have given little heed to the president's order and continued to shell the defiant city.

A Verkhovna Rada deputy who is also an ex-defense minister of Ukraine, said during a prime time talk-show that the country's "patriots" would be justified "to kill" Russian President Vladimir Putin if he came to Kiev.

Anatoly Gritsenko made his shocking statement speaking on the popular national talk show 'Shuster Live'.

"Putin won't stop. He wants not only Ukraine, he wants the Baltic States and other countries," claimed Gritsenko, who was a presidential candidate twice, in the 2010 and 2014 Ukrainian elections. Gritsenko did not elaborate on what had driven him to such a conclusion.

Calling the Russian president "a fascist," Gritsenko went on to say that he cannot imagine Vladimir Putin coming to Ukraine to sign some kind of a deal.

"I believe there are patriots who would volunteer to kill him - and that would be the right thing to do," Gritsenko remarked.

Comment: The inmates have clearly taken over the asylum.

The ongoing conflict in Ukraine, admittedly an attempt to expand both NATO and the European Union (EU), has escalated in terms of dominating Europe's energy markets. Attempts to halt the ongoing construction of Russia's South Stream natural gas pipeline appears to be a direct attempt to further penalize Russia for its role in defending Ukrainians currently under siege by aircraft, artillery, heavy armor and irregular troops.

"Toward a Europe Whole and Free" was literally the title of NATO's Atlantic Council's May 2014 event celebrating NATO's continuous expansion since the fall of the Soviet Union and its aspirations to integrate all along Russia's borders and even Russia itself into its geopolitical socioeconomic order. Comment: So sheltering refugees, highlighting war crimes, speaking up against flagrant violations of international law and national sovereignty and opposing a fascist junta is to NATO what amounts to aggressive actions. NATO countries have all turned a blind eye to it and covertly supported it.

Moody's ratings agency has cut Russia's outlook to negative, citing the threat to the Russian economy from the Ukraine crisis and a deterioration in Russia's medium-term growth outlook.

Moody's Investors Service held Russia's overall rating at Baa1 against a background of the country's strong fiscal and external accounts.

However, it warned that the spread of the conflict in Ukraine has raised the danger of a "geo-political event risk" for Moscow, including from Western sanctions.

Moody's said in its report that it views the situation in eastern Ukraine as more difficult compared to Crimea, "given the complicated background of separatist forces and the outbreak of violence."

The investors service also cited Russia's lower annual growth outlook, which has fallen to 1.7 percent from previous forecasts of three percent over the next five years.

Total national debt in the US: $17.5 trillion... total national debt in Russia: $22 billion

Frankly, Russia has 'rated' US economic prospects by wanting as little to do with it as possible.

Study warns that drone strikes may lead to wider wars

Washington's use of unmanned aircraft vehicles (UAV) for carrying out targeted killings might lead to increasing instability in the world, and result in other countries imitating the practice, a report by former US senior officials says.

The study, issued on Thursday, calls on the Obama administration to come up with a cost-benefit analysis of drone strikes. It also urges more transparency on the targeted killings and warns the US might soon be not alone in carrying them out.

"We are concerned that the Obama administration's heavy reliance on targeted killings as a pillar of US counterterrorism strategy rests on questionable assumptions, and risks increasing instability and escalating conflicts," the report reads.

The report was compiled by a bipartisan 10-member task force, created by the Stimson Center think tank and consists of former high-ranking officials working in intelligence and counter-terrorism.

The task force has warned that the current US drone policy might lead to "uncontrolled proliferation of UAV technologies."

The EU Ambassador to Israel has warned that a growing number of EU states are dissuading their citizens from doing business with companies registered in Israeli settlements; France, Italy and Spain have already joined the trend.

Ambassador Lars Faaborg-Andersen told a business seminar organized by the Geneva Initiative on Friday that six European nations have already issued warnings to the Israeli government over expanding construction of settlements beyond the Green Line.

EU member states "are losing their patience with concerns not being treated [seriously]," by Israel, Lars Faaborg-Andersen said.

"The EU is more consistently implementing existing policy, and taking further steps to disengage from the settlements," said the ambassador, and warned that in case settlement construction does not stop, even more EU member states will issue an advisory not to do business with business in the settlements.

The governments of five of the largest EU economies: Germany, France, Italy and Spain, UK, as well as the Netherlands have urged businessmen nationwide to stop investing into Israeli settlements in eastern Jerusalem, the Golan Heights and the West Bank.

The international community regards all Israeli settlements built on occupied Palestinian land as illegal.

Ukraine breaks ceasefire, launches shells into Russia

Mortar shells from Ukraine have hit Russian territory again, damaging a border checkpoint building and putting potholes in two villages. Lugansk People's Republic earlier claimed that Kiev forces launched an attack near the border.

At least three shells were launched over the Russian-Ukrainian border into Russia on Saturday, with one blasting a border-crossing checkpoint in the Rostov Region.

"Today, on June 28, Gukovo checkpoint came under fire. One of the shells hit a building and exploded," a spokesman for the Federal Security Service's (FSB) Border Guard administration in Rostov Region, Vasily Malaev, told RT.

The building was severely damaged, but, luckily, nobody was injured in the blast, Malaev said. Some 30 Ukrainian refugees were completing their documents at the checkpoint at the time of the attack and were evacuated together with border guards after the shelling started.

Later on Saturday, Gukovo checkpoint resumed its work despite the damage.


Comment: If Russia were Israel, it would've already launched a dozen or more airstrikes in Ukraine as retaliation, with nary a word of condemnation from Western states. Yet, in reality, can you imagine the vitriol that would be spewed by Western media and politicians if Russia were to engage Ukraine with their military force?
