Migrant crisis: Germany plans to flood Greece with unwanted refugees

Germany's Interior Minister argues that the country has done more than its fair share in attending to the migrant crisis caused by the gruesome conflict in Syria and that Greece should be forced to take on more refugees.

For the first time in five years, Germany has begun contemplating the idea of sending migrants back to Greece as Chancellor Angela Merkel's national popularity plummets from public outcry against her open door policy - a political shift that may have lasting reverberations throughout the European Union.

Comment: This is just what Greece doesn't need right now thanks to Germany pressing Greece into austerity.

Former Swedish Prime Minister: No doubt that Gülen was behind Turkey's coup attempt

Carl Bildt
There is no doubt that U.S.-based Islamic scholar Fethullah Gülen and his movement were at the center of the failed coup attempt of July 15, former Swedish Prime Minister Carl Bildt has said during a European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR) delegation visit to Ankara.

"When I saw the coup attempt on television, the first suspect that came to my mind regarding who could have done this was Gülen. Developments since that day have clearly revealed that Gülen and the organization he leads were at the center of this attempt," Bildt was quoted as saying by state-run Anadolu Agency.

"In my talks both in Turkey and with foreign experts following Turkey, I saw that nobody has any doubt that Gülen was at the center of the coup attempt," he said.

Earlier, Bildt had also noted on Twitter that the delegation had not encountered a single person who doubted Gülen's involvement in the coup attempt.

U.S.-Russian Syria deal falls through again - Washington won't give up on its al-Qaeda allies

obama
© Jonathan Ernst / Reuters
Al-Qaeda's biggest fan: U.S. President Barack Obama at the G20 Summit, in Hangzhou, China September 4, 2016.
Since the February ceasefire in Syria, which was broken by U.S.-supported Jihadis, Russia tried to press the U.S. into fulfilling the UN Security Council resolution 2254. The resolution signs off on the ceasefire but demands that all nations continue to fight the Islamic State and al-Qaeda.

But the U.S. continued to support al-Qaeda and its various front groups in Syria like Ahrar al-Sham and Jund al-Aqsa. "Moderate rebels" were armed with modern weapons by the U.S. and trained in camps in Turkey and Jordan. They were sent to Syria to integrated with al-Qaeda and made it impossible to fight one group without hitting the other. The U.S. used this ploy to protect al-Qaeda from Russian and Syrian attacks. Such attacks, it claimed, would break the ceasefire as they would also hit its "moderate rebels".

To gain some negotiating advantage Russia and its Syrian allies closed all access to east-Aleppo which is held by Jihadis. The U.S.-sponsored rebels and al-Qaeda responded with an attack in south Aleppo which then broke the newly established siege.

Comment: On Friday, Lavrov was somewhat optimistic, saying Moscow and Washington were seeing eye to eye and reaching an understanding on "most" Syrian issues during daily contacts between diplomats, military and intelligence personnel.
Lavrov added that "virtually all components of this task are already clear, an understanding has been reached on most issues." He emphasized however that the relations cannot continue if the USA continues to associate with terrorist groups in Syria. "The most important thing is that any agreements with the Americans on practical actions, on coordination of operations against terrorists will not be implemented if our American partners do not keep their promise to dissociate themselves from terrorists, above all, the Jabhat al-Nusra," he said. "Many of the groups considered acceptable by the US have actually affiliated with Jabhat al-Nusra, while Jabhat al-Nusra is using them to avoid being attacked."
Earlier today, the Russians were still publicly optimistic, Deputy FM Sergei Ryabkov saying a deal to work out a real ceasefire and U.S./Russian military cooperation was close:
"I will say that we are close to reaching a deal [with the United States]... there are no grounds to expect that everything would collapse," Ryabkov told reporters. Ryabkov added that at the same time he could not predict the date, when it would be announced about the reached agreement. "I think that this agreement could allow us to better understand, where are the terrorists that pose threat, including for Russia... and where are people, who do not consider the incumbent Damascus authorities as legitimate, but are ready to participate in a political process," Ryabkov said...
Of course, such statements could just be designed for public consumption; the Russians may well have predicted that the U.S. would not budge on its love for terrorists, so by appearing optimistic and willing to negotiate, it's the U.S. that ends up looking bad when the deal falls through because the U.S. refused to break up with their al-Qaeda boyfriends. But then came the inevitable "temporary setback" MoA describes above:
"Russians walked back on some of the areas we thought we were agreed on, so we are going back to capitals to consult," an unnamed senior State Department official was quoted as saying. The source did not provide additional information on the issues in question.

US President Barack Obama was cautious, if not alarming, when talking about the progress in the talks that were launched in mid-2016. "We're not there yet," he said on the sidelines of the G20 summit in China. "We have grave differences with the Russians in terms of both the parties we support but also the process that is required to bring about peace in Syria." "It's premature for us to say that there is a clear path forward, but there is the possibility at least for us to make some progress on that front," Obama added.
Because the U.S. supports al-Qaeda. Putin commented:
"We insist (and our American partners have had no objections to this) that the so-called 'healthy' opposition must be separated from radical groups and terrorist organizations, like al-Nusra Front. However, we have an impression that al-Nusra Front and the like are play acting, even rebranding themselves, but nothing has actually changed," Putin said. Radical groups have absorbed the moderate opposition, he added. "Apart from this, this is not a component of a domestic fight. These are foreign fighters who receive weapons and ammunition from abroad. In fact, our American partners agree with this, but they have no idea, how to do it," Putin said, referring to the efforts to separate terrorists from non-terrorists.
Lavrov and Kerry plan to continue talks on Monday.

Crisis looming as clock winds down on Afghan 'unity government' deal

Afghan President Ashraf Ghani (left) and Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah
Two years after a contentious, fraud-marred presidential election pushed Afghanistan to the brink of another bloody civil war, the country is once again staring into the abyss.

The compromise power deal signed by political rivals Ashraf Ghani and Abdullah Abdullah to avert that crisis expires at the end of this month, threatening to upend the beleaguered South Asian state's governing order with no clear alternative at hand.

The so-called national unity government (NUG) effectively installing President Ghani and Chief Executive Abdullah in September 2014 was a temporary solution to pave the way for an overhaul of the political system within two years.

Hillary Clinton: Rarely seen, heard or given access to by reporters assigned to follow her on campaign trail

killary rarely seen

The Democrat lets reporters trail her but tucks them away to keep them out of sight and herself out of reach.

Hillary Clinton has never felt comfortable with the traveling political press.

As first lady, she would sometimes arrange travel for herself and Chelsea separate from her husband, partly to avoid the protective pool of reporters assigned to the president. In 2008, she "fought tooth and nail," former aides said, to avoid sharing the plane with her press corps and relented only when her campaign was running out of money and had to either bring the reporters on board or downgrade to commercial.

And in 2016, with plenty of cash and a winning position in the race, Clinton has managed to keep the press at arm's length - preserving her private plane as a refuge where the only people around are her trusted campaign aides.

That changes on Labor Day, when the reporters and their press-leery candidate will for the first time board a "Stronger Together"-wrapped 737 from New York to Ohio to Iowa, and remain flying companions for the final stretch of the campaign.

Comment: From this NY Times article, further confirmation that Kill is doing one of the things she does best: shmoozing and asking for money. But take note of this prescient statement:
At a private fund-raiser Tuesday night at a waterfront Hamptons estate, Hillary Clinton danced alongside Jimmy Buffett, Jon Bon Jovi and Paul McCartney, and joined in a singalong finale to "Hey Jude."

"I stand between you and the apocalypse," a confident Mrs. Clinton declared to laughs, exhibiting a flash of self-awareness and humor to a crowd that included Calvin Klein and Harvey Weinstein and for whom the prospect of a Donald J. Trump presidency is dire.

Mr. Trump has pointed to Mrs. Clinton's noticeably scant schedule of campaign events this summer to suggest she has been hiding from the public. But Mrs. Clinton has been more than accessible to those who reside in some of the country's most moneyed enclaves and are willing to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to see her. In the last two weeks of August, Mrs. Clinton raked in roughly $50 million at 22 fund-raising events, averaging around $150,000 an hour, according to a New York Times tally.
Given Kill's inflammatory rhetoric and self-serving accusations towards Russia in recent weeks, we can probably take her at her word.

Black Magic

The other speech: Hillary the hawk spreads her wings

Hillary Clinton
While the media and the American people were avidly watching and commenting on Donald Trump's much-awaited immigration speech, another peroration by a presidential candidate somehow got overlooked: Hillary Clinton's appearance before the American Legion. Overshadowed by Trump's visit to Mexico, and his subsequent stem-winder, Hillary's performance was greeted with tepid applause by her military audience, and pointedly ignored by her media cheering section. The reason for the latter's silence is perhaps due to the fact that it underscores one of her biggest vulnerabilities: her militant interventionism in an age when the American people are sick and tired of foreign wars.

She didn't waste any time getting down to her basic theme. Once through the preliminaries, she said:

"Thanks for your service in our armed forces. You wore the uniform. You took an oath. You put your life on the line to protect the greatest country on Earth. There are some who may argue with that, but not around me."

Who is she talking about? I've never heard anyone dispute that our soldiers put their lives on the line: and while a few old-fashioned Marxists and so-called "social justice warriors" may disagree that this is the greatest country on earth, they're all supporting her, if I'm not mistaken, rather than Trump. So whom is she arguing with?

Incredibly, she is trying to characterize her opponent - someone who has adopted "America First" as his campaign slogan - as being somehow anti-American.

Middle East expert: 'Russia killing top ISIS leader should compel US to seek bilateral cooperation'

Abu Mohammad al-Adnani
© Wikipedia
Abu Mohammad al-Adnani
The time is ripe for the US to seek cooperation with Russia in battling terrorists in Syria, and better before the G20 Summit in China where the two sides may hold side talks, Ali Rizk, Middle East expert, told RT.

Russia's military has confirmed one of ITS air strikes was responsible for killing key ISIS leader Abu Muhammad al-Adnani.

RT: How important was Al-Adnani. We hear he was a head of communications, the media representative so to speak. How instrumental was he in spreading the group's propaganda which has become such an important tool for them?

Ali Rizk: Yes, indeed, when it comes to propaganda or distributing videos, yes, he was the main man, we can say. It is very important to know that Al-Adnani was very close personally to Abu Musab al-Zarqawi. If you recall al-Zarqawi, who was killed in the US airstrike in Iraq in 2006, it was al-Zarqawi who began with the practice of beheadings on video - filming beheadings and then distributing them throughout world. This practice goes back to Al-Adnani, who was a founder of al-Qaeda in Iraq. Al-Adnani used the same procedures, or the same practices, which he got from his teacher...

Comment: This presumes that the Americans even sincerely want to get rid of ISIS. So far, ISIS has just been a convenient tool towards the aim of destabilizing Assad's government and/or attempting to balkanize Syria towards its own ends. The war criminals in Washington are also consummate liars who consider Russia's killing of Al-Adnani "a joke" because Washington is, falsely claiming credit for it.

Turkey has taken on a new role: From NATO lapdog to emerging empire

Turkey
The recent Turkish coup attempt marks a turning point in NATO's war on Syria. An emerging empire and portal to the orient, Turkey has always played a key role in NATO's 'Drang Nach Osten'- the drive to encircle Russia, destroy its client-states Syria and Ukraine, and serve as a bulwark against other emerging powers such as Iran. But now it seems Turkey may no longer be carrying out its designated role.

That the United States was behind the coup attempt there is little doubt, though some prominent analysts such as Thierry Meyssan disagree that the coup was orchestrated by Gülenists. Fethullah Gülen is known to be close to the CIA and the U.S. obmutescence during the coup was typical of standard procedure during U.S. covert regime change operations.

While Erdoğan is unquestionably a war criminal who is responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of innocents in Syria and Libya and heavy repression at home, nonetheless, as in the case of former Iraqi president Saddam Hussein, the Turkish leader seems to have fallen out of favour in the West. The media have already begun the predictable, clichéd demonisation process - publishing pictures of the Turkish incumbent's opulent palaces etc.

Turkey desperately needs a new, progressive regime, which would contribute to peace in the Middle East. But if the choice is between a monster the CIA wants out and a monster the CIA wants in, the latter is the best option as it weakens U.S. imperialism.

G20 Summit 'honey trap' warning: Prime Minister's officials have been warned to take steps to protect themselves from being seduced by Chinese spies

Theresa May, whose officials have been warned to be wary of Chinese female attention during the G20 summit
Theresa May's officials have been warned to avoid "honey traps" amid fears that the Prime Minister's team will be targeted by Chinese spies offering sex during the G20 summit.

British government aides have fallen victim to spying on previous official trips to China, with one Downing Street official reported to have had his mobile phone and secret documents stolen after he was seduced.

Government security chiefs are anxious to avoid a repeat of the incident, which took place during a visit by Gordon Brown in 2008, and have provided detailed guidance to Mrs May's team.

The Prime Minister's officials have been warned to take steps to protect themselves during the G20 summit, which begins on Sunday.

Officials traveling with Mrs May have been issued with temporary mobile phones and email addresses in an attempt to evade Chinese state hackers.

Security advisers are also warning staff not to keep gifts they receive and to be particularly wary of electronic devices, such as free computer memory sticks, mobile phone SIM cards or chargers which they are offered by their Chinese hosts.
