The only reason the whole allegation [that the Syrian government used chemical weapons] hasn't been dismissed out of hand is the administration's repeated claims that they have better, secret intelligence that they're just not showing anyone, or occasionally are letting already pro-war Congressmen get a glimpse of.But - as the Weekly Standard reports - some Congressmen who have gotten a classified briefing aren't impressed:
"I have just attended a classified Congressional briefing on Syria that quite frankly raised more questions than it answered. I found the evidence presented by Administration officials to be circumstantial" .... liberal Democrat Tom Harkin says in a statement released after today's classified Capitol Hill briefing.
So, right now Obama is executing the Obama straddle where is making a retreat while blustering that he is making an attack.
The letter of Scott Regall (1) to Barak Obama has exploded on the scene with its opening words:"Mr. President, in the case of military operations in Libya you stated that authorization from Congress was not required because our military was not engaged in "hostilities." In addition, an April 1, 2011, memorandum to you from your Office of Legal Counsel concluded:..."President Obama could rely on his constitutional power to safeguard the national interest by directing the anticipated military operations in Libya - which were limited in their nature, scope, and duration - without prior congressional authorization.'"Text from letter of Rep. Scott Regall (R, VA) to Pres. Obama
"We view the precedent this opinion sets, where "national interest" is enough to engage in hostilities without congressional authorization, as unconstitutional."
Signed by 140 Reps, including 21 Democrats
Comment: So the original story was that Israel denied having any knowledge about these alleged missiles being launched.
Israel then later claimed responsibility for firing the two 'test' rockets.
Since RT first published this article on 3 September, they updated it with new and completely contradictory information on 4 September: So now the Israelis have claimed they fired at least one of these missiles from a fighter jet, (which may or may not have been done with US knowledge or assistance) although that still leaves unexplained the Russian statement that both missiles were launched from the sea... Stay tuned for more madness from the Zionists...
