Teenage jam thief jailed in Russia

A Russian teenager convicted of stealing 11 jars of jam from a neighbor has been sentenced to two and a half years in prison, local prosecutors said on Wednesday.

The 18-year-old from the Republic of Bashkiria, in the southwest Urals, smashed a lock to gain entry to the neighbor's store room stealing six jars of raspberry and five pots of currant jam.

A military museum that for the past eight years has displayed a tank driven by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger when he was a member of the Austrian army has returned the vehicle to the California governor at his request.

A pet mouse grounded a plane in China after it escaped from a passenger's pocket.

The mouse was taken on board by a female passenger, Liu Yulian, who hid it in her coat pocket and smuggled it past airport security.

"I went to sleep, and after I woke up, I found the mouse had gone missing. So I contacted the crew to see if they could help," says Liu.

German police dogs to wear shoes

Police dogs in the western city of Duesseldorf will no longer get their feet dirty when on patrol - the entire dog unit will soon be equipped with blue plastic fiber shoes, a police spokesman said Monday.

"All 20 of our police dogs - German and Belgian shepherds - are currently being trained to walk in these shoes," Andre Hartwich said. "I'm not sure they like it, but they'll have to get used to it."

A lorry driver was an accomplice to a real-life Chicken Run after making a 100-mile trip with a live HEN under his bonnet.

The trucker only heard it clucking when he arrived at an Asda depot near Chepstow, Monmouthshire.

It had been sitting on his engine since he left Staffordshire.
