Best of the Web: UK PM held 'crowded' Christmas parties in 2020 whilst country was on lockdown

More witnesses detail festivities at Downing Street while the rest of the public were told not to mingle
Boris Johnson is under intense pressure to explain why No 10 staff seemingly held two parties during lockdown last winter as insiders said the prime minister attended one gathering and remarked on how packed it was.

Witnesses have come forward to detail party games and festivities beyond midnight in Downing Street during the winter 2020 lockdown, expanding on reports first made in the Daily Mirror.

Johnson and his press secretary did not deny the events took place though they simultaneously insisted no Covid rules were broken. Without elaboration, they said on Wednesday that they "don't recognise" some of the reports.

Comment: Since the beginning of the contrived crisis there have been endless scandals exposing the hypocrisy of those in society, particularly high level politicians, but even mayors and teachers, who will readily flout the tyrannical restrictions they deem others must suffer, including young children.

For some, such as the teachers, it's likely that they're looking for any outlet to release the pent up stress from the nearly two years of draconian measures and are almost oblivious to what they're doing, however, others, particularly those legislating the restrictions are almost certainly aware of what they're doing but they believe that the nonsensical rules simply do not apply to them, because they're special and not part of the 'great unwashed'. What does that say about the psychology of those people?

Here are just a few of the latest examples:

The FAA accidentally disclosed more than 2,000 flight records associated with Jeffrey Epstein's private jets
Domestic flight records associated with Jeffrey Epstein's private jets, provided by the FAA, reveal more than 700 previously unknown flights.
  • Insider requested all flight-history data associated with four planes owned by Jeffrey Epstein.
  • The FAA rejected the request but later provided the records in response to an unrelated request.
  • The new FAA records include hundreds of previously unknown flights made by Epstein's jets.
  • They corroborate Insider's reporting on Epstein's travel patterns as documented in court records and flight-signal data.
  • A searchable database now contains 2,618 flights made by Epstein's private jets from 1995 to July 6, 2019.
In January 2020, Insider asked the Federal Aviation Administration for all the agency's flight records, including departure and arrival data, associated with a fleet of private jets owned by Jeffrey Epstein. Filed under the Freedom of Information Act, our request seemed to have a decent chance of success: The agency in 2011 released its entire database of US-based flights to The Wall Street Journal.

Northern Territory police say they don't believe three teenagers who allegedly absconded from Darwin's Howard Springs COVID-19 quarantine facility this morning came into contact with members of the community.

At a COVID update press conference, NT Chief Minister Michael Gunner confirmed the teenagers, aged 15, 16 and 17, tested negative for the virus yesterday.

He said all three were from the Binjari community near Katherine and had been sent into quarantine as close contacts of positive cases.

NT Police Commissioner Jamie Chalker said officers found the trio on the edge of Palmerston and arrested them after a chase on foot.

He said the young people are still being interviewed but "early indications" were they had not had any contact with members of the public.

The U.S. intelligence community "struggled" to brief former President Trump in the weeks before he entered office, according to a newly published account of his transition released by the CIA's academic center.

John Helgerson, a retired intelligence officer who wrote the chapter on Trump's transition in the CIA's book on briefing presidents, wrote that Trump's transition to the White House in late 2016 and early 2017 was "far and away the most difficult" experience the intelligence community (IC) had briefing new presidents.

Best of the Web: A President Betrayed by Bureaucrats: Scott Atlas's Masterpiece on the Covid Disaster

Donald Trump
I'm a voracious reader of Covid books but nothing could have prepared me for Scott Atlas's A Plague Upon Our House, a full and mind-blowing account of the famed scientist's personal experience with the Covid era and a luridly detailed account of his time at the White House. The book is hot fire, from page one to the last, and will permanently affect your view of not only this pandemic and the policy response but also the workings of public health in general.

Atlas's book has exposed a scandal for the ages. It is enormously valuable because it fully blows up what seems to be an emerging fake story involving a supposedly Covid-denying president who did nothing vs. heroic scientists in the White House who urged compulsory mitigating measures consistent with prevailing scientific opinion. Not one word of that is true. Atlas's book, I hope, makes it impossible to tell such tall tales without embarrassment.

Anyone who tells you this fictional story (including Deborah Birx) deserves to have this highly credible treatise tossed in his direction. The book is about the war between real science (and genuine public health), with Atlas as the voice for reason both before and during his time in the White House, vs. the enactment of brutal policies that never stood any chance of controlling the virus while causing tremendous damage to the people, to human liberty, to children in particular, but also to billions of people around the world.

For the reader, the author is our proxy, a reasonable and blunt man trapped in a world of lies, duplicity, backstabbing, opportunism, and fake science. He did his best but could not prevail against a powerful machine that cares nothing for facts, much less outcomes.

Comment: Between this new book by Scott Atlas, Robert F. Kennedy's new book on Fauci - and the hard work of many hundreds of doctors, scientists, researchers and whistleblowers - the word is slowly but surely trickling out to the world of 'normies'; a Monumental crime has been, and continues to be - perpetrated against humanity. And woe to those who've helped usher in the profound damage that has deeply affected all of us.

Best of the Web: Michael Flynn DISAVOWS Qanon, says its 'disinformation campaign created by CIA or the Left'

Michael Flynn
Flynn, pictured, attempts to disown QAnon, claiming it's a 'disinformation campaign' created by the CIA.
Former White House national security adviser and ardent supporter of QAnon, Michael Flynn, allegedly suggested the far-right political conspiracy theory movement is in fact a disinformation campaign orchestrated by the CIA.

Flynn publicly pledged allegiance to the right-wing conspiracy group last summer, which first originated on internet message boards.

Comment: Did he, though? Flynn was on video with his family saying the Pledge of Allegiance and some clever editing by CNN made it look like he was pledging allegiance to Q.

See: Michael Flynn's relatives sue CNN for $75 million over report alleging QAnon affiliation
At the end of oath, Michael Flynn uttered the phrase "Where we go one, we go all," and the entire family responded, "God Bless America." CNN edited out the pledge and the "God Bless America" exclamation and claimed the phrase uttered by President Trump's national security adviser was an "infamous QAnon slogan," the suit alleged.

In fact, Michael Flynn's phrase was drawn from an inscription first "engraved on a bell on one of President John F. Kennedy's sailboats, acknowledging the unity of mankind," the suit stated.

"General Flynn intended to encourage people to think about being good citizens, to love country and be good patriots," the lawsuit said. "The video had nothing to do with QAnon or recruiting 'digital soldiers' for an apocalyptic reckoning."

But in a telephone call that has not yet been independently verified, Flynn, a former adviser to Trump appeared to completely disavow the group as he spoke with pro-Trump election conspiracy theorist and attorney Lin Wood. The man Wood says is Flynn was even heard dismissing QAnon's claims as 'total nonsense.'

Comment: More from The Guardian:
The recording released by Wood comes amid acrimony among leading pro-Trump figures who have worked to overturn the 2020 election. According to the Daily Beast, the feud appears to have sprung from Wood's brief representation of Kyle Rittenhouse, the 18-year-old recently acquitted after killing two people and wounding one at a protest in Wisconsin last year.

According to the Beast, Rittenhouse alleged that Wood intentionally let him languish in jail so he could earn money off the case. Wood reportedly became angry that Flynn and Sidney Powell, another pro-Trump attorney, didn't speak up for him.

...

The recording apparently featuring Flynn disowning QAnon raised echoes of remarks about a related conspiracy theory by Steve Bannon, Trump's former campaign chair and White House strategist.

Bannon was pardoned on fraud charges by Trump but now faces a charge of contempt of Congress over the 6 January Capitol attack, to which he has pleaded not guilty.

He has repeatedly promoted the "deep state" conspiracy theory, which holds that a permanent government of bureaucrats and intelligence agents exists to thwart Trump's agenda.

However, Bannon has also said the "deep state conspiracy theory is for nut cases".
Depends on what one means by 'the deep state'. This 3-decade congressional staff member, speaking to Bill Moyers in 2014, certainly thought that a version of it was real:

Best of the Web: Bait-and-switch: India now to impose lockdowns over air pollution

Pollution levels in New Delhi, considered the world's most contaminated capital city, have gone off the charts in recent weeks.

Authorities in India plan to enforce a new lockdown to combat air pollution in New Delhi, the world's most polluted capital city.

Pollution levels in some parts of city have registered off the charts several times over the past fortnight. On Tuesday, the air quality index scored 437 out of a maximum 500 points.

Indian cities have long struggled with pollution, but levels spike each winter as fumes from farmers burning their crops mix with pollution from cars and industrial plants, the Associated Press reported.

Comment: Alternative journalists such as James Corbett and Catherine Austin Fitts have been warning for some time that this move was coming. Even the NY Post had an article about it not too long ago:
As a recent Nature journal piece notes, COVID-19 lockdowns have prepared people for "personal carbon allowances." Restrictions on individual freedoms "that were unthinkable only one year before" have us "more prepared to accept the tracking and limitations" to "achieve a safer climate," the piece notes.

And many self-professed defenders of our "democracy" have been clamoring for the Department of Health and Human Services to take unilateral action and treat climate as a "public health issue" or to declare a "climate emergency." The White House has given the issue a required identity-based twist, noting that global warming's risks "disproportionately affect poor and minority communities." (Which reminds me of P.J. O'Rourke's old joke about NPR coverage: "World To End โ€” Poor and Minorities Hardest-Hit.")

Americans experienced the authoritarian reach of government during the pandemic. We see what normalizing those ideas can look like in Australia.

Best of the Web: Trump says he 'never' considered war with China, accuses General Milley of treason

Trump

Donald Trump turned Black Friday into Flashback Friday.

The former president sent out an email blast saying he "never" considered launching a war with China and that Gen. Mark Milley "should be tried for treason" if he phoned the Chinese military to promise advance warning of a US attack.

The statement comes more than two months after the release of the book Peril by journalists Bob Woodward and Robert Costa, which said the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff gave backchannel assurances to China in Trump's final months in office.

Milley, the highest-ranking US military officer, admitted at a House committee hearing in September that he gave such assurances to Gen. Li Zuocheng of the People's Liberation Army.

Comment: It is obvious the general's loyalties were 'Never Trump'. As a sidenote, many among the 'Trump base' are surprised (and disappointed) by Trump's view that China did not 'unleash the virus':

The charade has come to a point that - diplomatically - is quite unprecedented: Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov lost his Taoist patience.
American hysteria over the "imminent" Russian invasion of Ukraine has exploded every geopolitical Stupid-o-Meter in sight - and that's quite an accomplishment.

What a mess. Sections of the U.S. Deep State are in open revolt against the combo that remote controls Crash Test Dummy, who impersonates POTUS. The neocon-neoliberal axis is itching for a war - but has no idea how to sell it to an immensely fractured public opinion.

UKUS, which de facto controls the Five Eyes spy scam, excels only in propaganda. So in the end it's up to the CIA/MI6 intel axis and their vast network of media chihuahuas to accelerate Fear and Loathing ad infinitum.

A fresh round of rallies against mandatory Covid vaccination has hit Australia, with hundreds of thousands protesting in dozens of cities. Aerial footage captured huge crowds blocking central streets.

New rallies all across the country happened on Saturday, as people demonstrated for more freedom in relation to coronavirus vaccination. Organized by the Millions March Against Mandatory Vaccination group, massive protests swept central Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra and Perth, along with 30 other cities and towns in Australia.

Claiming that vaccine mandates are discriminatory, people protested outside parliamentary buildings and blocked central streets, calling for resignations in state governments and an end to what some call "tyranny."
