The real story behind drag queen story hour

College professor Harris Kornstein, aka Lil Miss Hot Mess, a key figure in transforming drag performances into “family-friendly” events.
Aimed at children, the phenomenon is far more subversive than its defenders claim.

Drag Queen Story Hour — in which performers in drag read books to kids in libraries, schools, and bookstores — has become a cultural flashpoint. The political Right has denounced these performances as sexual transgressions against children, while the political Left has defended them as an expression of LGBTQ pride. The intellectual debate has even spilled into real-world conflict: right-wing militants affiliated with the Proud Boys and the Three Percenters have staged protests against drag events for children, while their counterparts in the left-wing Antifa movement have responded with offers to serve as a protection force for the drag queens.

Families with children find themselves caught in the middle. Drag Queen Story Hour pitches itself as a family-friendly event to promote reading, tolerance, and inclusion. "In spaces like this," the organization's website reads, "kids are able to see people who defy rigid gender restrictions and imagine a world where everyone can be their authentic selves." But many parents, even if reluctant to say it publicly, have an instinctual distrust of adult men in women's clothing dancing and exploring sexual themes with their children.

How the New Left turned our sacred love for nature into secular technocracy

In this post, and in light of the ongoing push for Climate Change policies by activists and world leaders alike, I'd like to trace some of the ideological currents that led to the emergence of the "New Greens." It is written from a German perspective: in many ways, Germany could be seen as ground zero for modern environmentalism and green politics.1

When we think about the controversies surrounding climate change these days, what usually comes to mind are images of world leaders gathering at fancy conferences, urban climate activism, or the transformation of energy and transportation systems on an industrial scale.

We often forget that such images would seem utterly strange to many of the original "greens" who were, for the most part, genuine nature-lovers. They were the kind of people who would go to the woods to watch birds, become hobby zoologists, or simply enjoy the outdoors. Who were saddened by the pollution of their local river or stream, by the dumping of litter in the forests, and by the nonchalant attitude towards flora and fauna with which urban planners, industrialists, and politicians went about their business in the name of technological and economic progress.

The Hand of Irulegi: 2,100 year-old artefact shows earliest evidence of Basque language ever found

Basque

An archaeologist holds the Hand of Irulegi, the earliest known text in Basque script. The Hand of Irulegi, unearthed in 2021 near Pamplona, is a bronze plate containing 40 mysterious symbols. Experts believe they have deciphered its first word: ‘sorioneku’, or ‘good fortune’.
Between the years 80 BC and 72 BC, the armies of Quintus Sertorius on one side and of the generals Quintus Caecilius Metellus Pius and Gnaeus Pompeius Magnus (Pompey) on the other had transformed Hispania into the main battlefield for control of Rome. Indigenous tribes who supported one faction in a conflict known as the Sertorian War faced immediate reprisals from the other side. This was exactly what happened to the inhabitants of the settlement located on Mount Irulegi, near the Valley of Aranguren, around five miles from present-day Pamplona in Spain's northern Navarre region. Pompey's troops attacked it, destroyed it and burned it to the ground.

In 2018 Manolo Romero, the mayor of Valle de Aranguren (a municipality bringing together eight villages located in the valley of the same name) sought help from the regional government of Navarre and from the Aranzadi Science Society (known in Spain for conducting hundreds of exhumations of Civil War-era mass graves). Researchers got to work excavating the hillock, on which the walls of a medieval castle also stand. At the foot of the fortification, the remains of a 2,000-year-old settlement were uncovered. In 2021, on the threshold of one of the houses razed during the Sertorian Wars, workers found a bronze slab in the shape of a hand and about 14.5 centimeters (5.7 in) long. Laboratory analysis confirmed that strange inscriptions were engraved on its fingers, in the form of 40 symbols distributed across four lines.

Turkey REJECTS US embassy's condolences over Istanbul terror attack, 'it's like the killer who's first on the scene of the attack' - Interior Minister

Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu speaks to reporters at the scene of the attack, in Istanbul, Türkiye, Nov. 14, 2022.
Turkey will not accept the United States' condolences over Sunday's terror attack in Istanbul. Turkish Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu said on Monday.

"We have received the message but we do not accept it and reject the US embassy's condolences. We are not hostile towards anyone," he said.

Earlier in the day, Soylu criticized the US embassy's condolences, saying that "it is like when the killer is among the first to come to the scene of the attack." At the same time, he did not quote the message but accused the United States of supporting the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), which is banned in Turkey. "We see insincerity from some of our so-called allies who either give shelter to terrorists or let them exist on territories they occupy, or officially send them money from their senates," the Turkish minister said.

General Armageddon
Russia abandons Kherson

In January, 1944, the newly reconstituted German Sixth Army found itself in an operationally cataclysmic situation in the southern bend of the Dnieper River, in the area of Krivoi Rog and Nikopol. The Germans occupied a dangerous salient, jutting out precariously into the Red Army's lines. Vulnerable on two awkward flanks, and facing an enemy with superiority in manpower and firepower, any general worth his salt would have sought to withdraw as soon as possible. In this case, however, Hitler insisted that the Wehrmacht hold the salient, because the region was Germany's last remaining source of manganese - a mineral crucial for making high quality steel.

A year prior, in the opening weeks of 1943, Hitler had intervened in another, more famous battle, forbidding the previous incarnation of the Sixth Army from breaking out of a pocket forming around it at Stalingrad. Prohibited from withdrawing, the Sixth was annihilated wholesale.

In both of these cases, there was a clash between pure military prudence and broader political aims and needs. In 1943, there was neither a compelling military nor political reason to keep the 6th Army in the pocket at Stalingrad - political intervention in military decision making was both senseless and disasterous. In 1944, however, Hitler (however difficult it is to admit it) had a valid argument. Without manganese from the Nikopol area, German war production was doomed. In this case, political intervention was perhaps warranted. Leaving an army in a vulnerable salient is bad, but so is running out of manganese.

Eco-extremists are leading the world towards despair, poverty, and starvation

Utopian solutions for saving the planet are doomed to failure - and worse. We must wake up before it is too late

This winter, millions of British citizens, including children, will be tipped, or dumped, into energy poverty severe enough to risk permanent damage to their health. Cold, damp houses provide the perfect breeding ground for mould that not only causes respiratory distress, but renders houses essentially unlivable once established.

One Left-leaning newspaper ran the story outlining the danger, but without a word about why this crisis has emerged: because the woke moralisers of the "environmental" movement helped to create it.

The narcissists of compassion - callow, self-aggrandising, incompetent politicians, their celebrity lackeys, Machiavellian journalists - have insisted ever more loudly over the last five decades that no cost was, and is, too great for others to bear in the pursuit of blind service to "the planet."

Deal or no deal, General Winter is coming to town - ready to entertain his guest of honor Sun Tzu with so many new dishes at their dinner table.

The announcement of the Kherson Retreat may have signaled one of the gloomiest days of the Russian Federation since 1991.

Leaving the right bank of the Dnieper to set up a defense line on the left bank may spell out total military sense. General Armageddon himself, since his first day on the job, had hinted this might have been inevitable.

As it stands in the chessboard, Kherson is in the "wrong" side of the Dnieper. All residents of Kherson Oblast - 115,000 people in total - who wanted to be relocated to safer latitudes have been evacuated from the right bank.

Lockdowns: The Great Gaslighting - A Damning Retrospective

Mao's propaganda
The lockdowns of 2020 were very real. And few opposed them.

More than two years since the lockdowns of 2020, the political mainstream, particularly on the left, is just beginning to realize that the response to Covid was an unprecedented catastrophe.

But that realization hasn't taken the form of a mea culpa. Far from it. On the contrary, in order to see that reality is starting to dawn on the mainstream left, one must read between the lines of how their narrative on the response to Covid has evolved over the past two years.

The narrative now goes something like this: Lockdowns never really happened, because governments never actually locked people in their homes; but if there were lockdowns, then they saved millions of lives and would have saved even more if only they'd been stricter; but if there were any collateral damage, then that damage was an inevitable consequence of the fear from the virus independent of the lockdowns; and even when things were shut down, the rules weren't very strict; but even when the rules were strict, we didn't really support them.

Put simply, the prevailing narrative of the mainstream left is that any upside from the response to Covid is attributable to the state-ordered closures and mandates that they supported, while any downside was an inevitable consequence of the virus independent of any state-ordered closures and mandates which never happened and which anyway they never supported. Got it? Good.
