Zhanna Khusainova was killed by a pack of dogs
Footage shows a mum walking down the street before she was killed and her body was ripped apart in a savage attack by a pack of dogs.

The body of Zhanna Khusainova, 48, was found on wasteland covered in bites with one leg severed and her scalp missing in Russian city Kazan.

She had been on her way to a supermarket where she worked as a cashier when she was set upon by the dogs. A search for the mum-of-one had been underway after she failed to arrive for work and her body was found.

CCTV footage shows her hurrying to work in a dark green jacket and carrying a brown handbag. Then seconds later she was viciously attacked by a pack of dozens of dogs - strays living in an insecure shelter close to industrial premises on her route to work.

She was able to make a desperate call to emergency services moments before she was overpowered and savaged to death. But the line was bad and the operator initially thought she was reporting a fire in a sauna.

"Dogs are attacking me ...," she said. "What is burning? Is the sauna on fire?," asked the operator. "Dogs attacked me, a lot....No, dogs are attacking, help! Help," she pleaded desperately as barking was heard on the call.

She explained she was near an industrial base in Kazan, but then the line went dead. Police were alerted but it was too late to save her and her mauled body was found hours later, after dark.

The married woman - a trained aviation engineer who worked in a supermarket and had a 15-year-old daughter - evidently dropped her phone as she ran for her life with the dogs chasing her.

Locals had earlier complained about the dogs at the site.

Deputy mayor Iskander Giniyatullin said: "I believe it is necessary to maintain composure and wait for the results of the investigation, based on which the necessary conclusions will be made. I offer my sincere condolences to the relatives and friends of the deceased woman."
