Surveillance video shows dog-walking man being struck by lightning in Spring, Texas

The moment the man is struck by lightning.

Surveillance video shows the moment a man walking his dogs gets struck by lightning — seconds before a group of good Samaritans saved his life.

The shocking footage, obtained by ABC affiliate KTRK, shows a white flash striking the man near his feet and knocking him face-first to the ground, as his three dogs scurry away.

The TV-station identified the man as Alex Coreas, and reported that he had been walking near the Stuebner Airline Veterinary Hospital in Spring, Texas on Thursday, when he was hit.

Two clinic workers and a third person rushed over to help, and when they reached Coreas, he wasn't breathing and his clothes were charred.

"His shoes and his socks got blown off his feet," staffer Christy Mittler told the station.

The group administered CPR until they began to feel a pulse.

Coreas is now recovering at a local hospital. Police deputies found his dogs in a nearby wooded area.

The lightning bolt left a gaping hole in the concrete where Coreas was hit.

Huh, is it me or does that lightning bolt look rather odd? Usually you can see the brilliant white streak that sort of paints it's self onto the cameras footage, almost like the camera can't totally capture it's speed and shape, so it's distorted slightly. This looks short and doesn't seem to appear until it actually hits the guy.. I wonder who this guy is??? Would he be considered a "threat" to the establishment?

However the lightning looks on the video, it certainly was lightning because of the way folks reacted. When lightning strikes near you - you know it!* So maybe it was recording at a relatively slow # of frames per second.

I love the heroism of the guy who flips him over and starts CPR. It seems that one of the others there should have helped. I bet they would have if the lightning struck person looked like this Dentyne Lifeguard Chick from this 1970s ad. [Link] (Important point, her name's listed in the video's comments. She started teaching Driver's Ed. at my High School when I was in 11th grade. (I'd taken it in 10th grade.) She was the prettiest girl at school, bar none.
