The APSDMA, which predicted severe lightning activity in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam and East Godavari districts, issued thunderstorm alerts from early hours of Tuesday and later lightning continued in West Godavari, Krishna, Guntur, Nellore, Prakasam, and Kadapa.
Lightning had an impact on 443 mandals in 11 districts, with 13 falling victims to the thunderbolt strikes and one dying due to the collapse of a tree.
The APSDMA says that they are closely monitoring the sudden changes in temperatures and weather and warned 20.14 lakh mobile phone subscribers on Tuesday about the severe lightning and thunderbolts.

When I was a kid, I was told the 5 second rule of lightning to thunder by my older siblings. Apparently there are still people around the planet who still don't get the correlation. The probability of trailers from a direct strike extend out to at least a mile from it. So if you know by estimation between flash and thunder the main strike was a mile or less away, you better be getting your a¢¢ in a safe area, particularly away from trees, water, and unusually conductive soil. If your hair suddenly stands up it is almost always too late.
