A Bridgewater resident's home video surveillance captured a bright flash followed by a loud boom heard across the township Wednesday night.

The video was taken from a home on Poplar Street in the Bradley Gardens section of the township by Philip Vicari.

"Take notice to the flash of light," Vicari told Patch. "That wasn't my camera and my flood light was off."

Residents in the Bridgewater community Facebook group have reported hearing the noise as far as Mine Road, Brown Road, Brahma Avenue and expanding into Branchburg.

Some are saying they felt like it had literally shook their home in the Bradley Gardens area around 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

A canon was speculated by many as the source, however, the origin of the noise remains a mystery.

"I was told by the night supervisor that the origin of the noise is unfounded," Bridgewater Police Lt. Michael Maxwell said. "We do not know where or what caused it."
