US airstrikes in Syria on 7 April targeted an airbase in the western province of Homs. The US claims the attack was in response to a 'chemical attack' allegedly carried out by Syrian government forces in Idlib earlier this week. Damascus has rejected the allegations and called the US attack a blatant aggression, which makes the US "a partner of the terrorists." Interesting point you make Joe, about the US needs to project an image of invincibility. If they took a whipping in Syria, or elsewhere then most of the world would probably want to kick their asses. They have a lot to lose should they take a beating. The US likes to impose sanctions on others to weaken them, before military action. What a bunch of chickensh*t. All of this seems like increasing pressure on Russia to stop supporting Assad. Can't see that happening, quite the opposite actually. Wonder how they would respond if Russia imposed a no fly zone, and ordered all uninvited foreign forces out?

graeme15b Not only that, but vast sums are made by US arms manufacturers when they have a "live expo" aka US war on other nations. If such an expo crashed and burned, figuratively and literally, through the shooting down of US missiles or aircraft or other general defeat of US forces, lots of money would be lost in potential sales because of the drop in credibility. So America must never been seen to be defeated in any way militarily.

I would have to agree with the point that this is an effort to kick the defeat can down the road by the West. As was stated about the Israelis, every time they came close to peace, there would be an attack, or an assassination done to derail the process. A lot of desperation seems to be showing at this time by the West.
