Rebecca Lillian-Kay Hardy
The fiancé of a 22-year-old Port Huron woman who died after being attacked by two dogs Thursday described her as full of life and love.

Matthew Grattan said Rebecca Lillian-Kay Hardy will be missed by all who knew her. The couple had an 18-month-old daughter together.

"She was full of life," Grattan said. "She was my everything. She loved her daughter with everything.

"She would brighten up the room when she walked in."

Police discovered Hardy shortly before 4:45 p.m. Thursday after being called for reports of a dog attack.

Hardy was found in the back yard of a residence with extensive injuries to her face and neck. She was taken to Lake Huron Medical Center and later flown to Beaumont Hospital where she died.

Investigators believe Hardy, for an unknown reason, entered the fenced-in back yard of the home where the dogs were being kept.

In a statement, police said a pit bull attacked Hardy when she entered the yard. A witness attempted to help her, but was unable to. The witness entered the home and asked for the help of the dog owner.

A second dog, believed to be a Husky, also attacked Hardy, according to the statement. The dog owner eventually was able to free Hardy and provide aid until the arrival of emergency personnel.

Police have said the dog owner is cooperating fully. The dogs were removed from the residence and taken to St. Clair County Animal Control, where they were quarantined.

Grattan said he and Hardy had an argument at his home a few doors down shortly before the incident. Grattan said she left the house. He speculated that she traveled down the alleyway and attempted to cut across the neighbor's backyard.

"Nobody was there, nobody knows what happened and why," Grattan said.

Port Huron police are working with the St. Clair County and Macomb County medical examiners as well as the St. Clair County Prosecutor's office to complete the investigation.
