Trudeau's ascension marks the end of Conservative Leader Stephen Harper's reign as prime minister. First elected to the job in 2006, Harper is currently the second longest-serving leader in the G7.
A Decade of Hell
Practically any candidate could have done better than Harper after the damage Canada suffered due to his inept leadership in almost a decade as the Conservative's top dog.
Mr. Harper could now easily be labeled as one of Canada's worst Prime Ministers in the history of the country's independence, giving away or attempting to give away considerable sovereignty and eroding well-run established government health and labor practices in exchange for international corporatized schemes.
Few will ever forget Harper's billion dollar security G20 fiasco from 2010 that led to the largest mass arrest in Canadian history, depriving over 1000 innocent civilians of their liberty for the sake of perceived non-existent threats.
Or even more embarrassing was his refusal to sign UN declarations designating clean water as a human right. Some of his efforts relating to protecting oil companies in exchange for turning his back on reducing pollution were so destructive for Canada, that in 2009 prominent politicians and scientists called for Canada to be removed from the Commonwealth.
When Harper announced the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) free trade agreement just a few weeks ago, he hid the truth from Canadians.
If you haven't heard much about the TPP, that's part of the problem right there. It's the largest trade deal in history -- involving countries stretching from Chile to Japan, representing 792 million people and accounting for 40 percent of the world economy -- yet it's been devised in secret. Lobbyists from the world's biggest corporations and Wall Street's biggest banks have been involved but not the Canadian (or American) public. Harper proposed a subsidy of up to $4.3 billion in taxpayers' money as set out in the Canada-Europe agreement which will not go directly into Canadian producers' pockets, but every dollar will have to work twice as hard since they now cover multiple trade agreements. Once supply management is dead, how long will our producers be able to count on subsidies from a government committed to balancing the budget?
The TPP spells disaster for Canada and any free nation. Negotiations now involve such things as intellectual property, financial regulations, labor laws, and rules for health, safety, and the environment.
Trudeau For Change?
Unfortunately, few Canadians realize that the worst may be yet to come under the new majority government operating under the guise of "positive change." That may sound familiar to those who tuned in to Obama's verbal diarrhea throughout his 2008 presidential campaign, which was 'all talk' and 'no walk' as many have painfully realized after his two terms.
So what will Trudeau change? Likely very little to advance Canada as a G8 leader in economic growth, health and security. If anything Canada is most certainly destined toward a downwards spiral in all of the above areas. That won't all be his fault, but he'll be able to do very little to stop it.
Here's how Trudeau will effectively bring Canada to new lows:
1. Mandatory Vaccination
Leaders of Canada's largest doctors' group have already called for the same policies under heavy influence by the American Medical Association to change the way medicine is practiced in Canada,including a multi-year plan to increase vaccination rates.
Compulsory vaccination laws are rare in Canada and only three provinces have legislated vaccination policies applying strictly to children about to enroll in school. But that's about to change under a new Liberal majority government.
Over 60% Canadians believe that children should not be allowed to attend daycare or school unless they have received all their recommended childhood vaccinations and the Trudeau will be happy to enforce this sentiment.
The Alberta Liberals are already on record calling on the provincial government to make vaccinations mandatory for children attending provincial schools. The Manitoba and Ontario Liberals are also on board with a similar mentality suggesting that mandatory vaccination will help prevent outbreaks of communicable diseases.
Vaccine Choice Canada has provided a fully referenced letter to the CMA here. It details both the legal and scientific issues surrounding mandatory vaccination.
Mandatory vaccination:
- it is not based on scientific evidence or compelling state interest;
- it is a violation of parental and human rights;
- it requires children to risk vaccine injury, while vaccine manufacturers and doctors administering vaccines are shielded from vaccine injury liability;
- it discriminates against children to deny them a school-based education guaranteed by the California Constitution; and
- it will be excessively expensive to administer and enforce.
2. Legalizing Pot??
Legalizing pot is never a good thing. Why? Because it's not any government's place to make it illegal in the first place. It's a plant. Plain and simple. It's part of nature with incredible medical properties. Any political leader with foresight endorsing human rights and freedoms would recognize this. The term "legalize" makes many cringe as critics claim that government entities have never had any right to enact or enforce any law to prevent the possession or distribution of herbs.
It doesn't need to be decriminalized or legalized but removed as substance that the government has any control over at all. Decriminalization does not mean that people can use things with impunity. Instead it means that possessing only small amounts no longer lands the perpetrator with a criminal record or a jail sentence. So what? People should have the right to possess 5 pounds of marijuana just as they can possess 5 pounds of oregano. The promise that legalization will actually protect teenagers from marijuana is false. So, too, are the other promises of the legalizers. It is false to claim that marijuana legalization will break drug cartels. Those cartels will continue to traffic in harder and more lucrative drugs, such as heroin, cocaine, and methamphetamine. Criminal cartels may well stay in the marijuana business, too, marketing directly to underage users. Trudeau knows this very well and he has advisors keeping him in the loop regarding these facts. The entire legalization issue for marijuana is ludicrous.
The Liberal leader said his government will research best practices from jurisdictions around the world that have already legalized the drug.
That means that legalization in Canada will have everything to do with controlling the flow of the plant through approved and licensed dispensaries to maximize profits. It has nothing to do with protecting the people and government policy under Trudeau will further suppress and restrict this amazing plant across Canada..
3. Liberals Will Uphold Bill C-51
Bill C-51, according to Public Safety Minister Steve Blaney, is in line with the government's "firm commitment" to protect Canadians from jihadist terrorists who seek to destroy the values Canadians hold dear. Sound familiar?
Justin Trudeau said his party will always defend the Charter of Rights, enacted when his father was prime minister in 1982. But what is interesting is that the Liberal leader will not clearly weigh in on the constitutionality of the anti-terror legislation, which has been questioned by some legal experts and the New Democrats who refused to support the bill. "The Liberal party will always defend the Charter of Rights and Freedoms at the same time as we defend Canadians' security...we don't have to make a choice between one or the other.''
The bill gives CSIS sweeping powers, including the possibility to take certain actions that violate the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and Canadian law. It gives the national security apparatus unlimited access to all government information on individual Canadians, enhances their powers of "preventive" detention, and empowers CSIS to break virtually any law when "disrupting" vaguely defined threats to national and economic security.
Bills like C-51 are part of the very foundation to the Codex Alimentarius, the global trade commissions for the world. Changes that appear friendly on paper have dire consequences in reality; their interpretation of freedom is an illusion to imprison the Canadian public.
Trudeau has no plans on changing the fact that on ONLY suspicion, health inspectors with the aid of police can invade any location in the country, seize and confiscate goods deemed unsafe (i.e. health supplements) and violate all constitutional rights of all parties involved.
No plans on modifying existing laws on privacy and confidentiality which explicitly exempts the Minister of Health and government inspectors from any kind of third-party oversight and accountability;
Accused individuals under C-51 have their access to the courts seriously limited, even the assumption of innocence is gone as violators are considered guilty until proven innocent with no recourse to any court of law.
Astronomical fines are also handed out for crimes committed on the Minister's assumption of guilt which requires no supporting evidence for independent examination. Dr. Eldon Dahl's 2009 ordeal with the RCMPwas a clear demonstration of how Health Canada can trump all civil liberties of Canadians under false assumptions.
Even the corporate shield can disappear under C-51, because corporate directors would be legally liable for the actions of their employees; which actions would be deemed criminal solely on the opinion of the Minister, not by the courts.
4. Will Loosen Regulations To Allow More Chemicals In Foods
This was already achieved in part by Stephen Harper, but expect Trudeau to further weaken regulations so that more pesticide residues can be left on your fruits and vegetables. The plan is ultimately to bring Canadian regulations in line with U.S. Levels, which can be up to 100 times higher. Under new regulations, corporate food producers will be allowed even more freedom conduct their own safety inspections. Monsanto will be permitted to raise the allowable concentrations of glyphosate on food crops, animal feed, and edible oils. The new regulations will also allow farmers to use more of the chemical, which is the active ingredient in the herbicide Roundup. Oilseed crops such as canola, soy, sunflower, flax and will be permitted higher than the levels some scientists believe are carcinogenic.
5. Trudeau wants to build the Keystone XL pipeline
In what may come as a surprise to American progressives, Trudeau is doggedly in favour of building a pipeline to carry crude from Alberta oilsands to the U.S. Gulf Coast. It's a position that puts him offside with the likes of Democratic presidential hopefuls Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders.
Trudeau even suggested a personal conflict between Harper and Obama was standing in the project's way, publicly accusing the Tory leader of not liking the U.S. president very much.
The Liberal leader has vowed to have a more constructive relationship with the White House.
6. Supports the Trans-Pacific Partnership
The massive Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal was reached roughly two weeks before Canadians voted.
Although the deal was lauded by Tories and opposed by the NDP, the Liberals held their cards close to the vest, saying they wanted to see the fine print of the deal before weighing in either way. That marked a shift away from Trudeau's early and vocal support of the Canada-European Union free trade deal.
But Trudeau often repeated that his party is "resolutely pro-trade" and that he would make the case as prime minister that Canada has resources and goods to share with the world.
"We have a geographic situation that gives us access across the Atlantic, south to our NAFTA partners, and across the Pacific to the growing markets of Asia," he said at one campaign event.
Most expect the Liberals to support TPP in government. In fact, while Trudeau has pledged more free votes for members, Liberals have already said that any future vote on the trade deal would be done as a team.
The Liberal government will be called upon to step up the assault on workers' rights at home and to more aggressively assert Canadian imperialism's predatory interests abroad.
7. Supports US-led Wars
Trudeau has vowed to increase the number of Canadian Special Forces deployed to Iraq to train local proxy troops to combat ISIS within the framework of the US-led war coalition. He has also pledged to strengthen Ottawa's relationship with Washington and to hike military spending, so as to better equip the Canadian Armed Forces to intervene alongside the US military around the globe.
Still think Justin Trudeau is great for Canada? Time will tell.
