The first plane, a MiG-29 fighter jet, crashed near its base in Astrakhan late last week. The pilot ejected safely, but the plane "exploded, caught fire and was destroyed," RIA quoted an unidentified government source as saying.
Two and a half hours later, a Su-34 fighter-bomber aircraft in Voronezh flipped over while landing. The crew survived, and the plane did not catch fire or explode, RIA reported, but the aircraft sustained heavy damage.
According to sources quoted by the agency, the plane veered off the runway shortly after landing and then turned over. A Defense Ministry source said the plane didn't deploy its drag chute — a small parachute deployed by heavier aircraft such as the Su-34 to slow down after touching the runway.

The small Dash 8 turboprop commuter plane with 36 passengers took off from Newark Liberty International Airport and reported the fire about 12:15 p.m. near Bradley, about 15 miles north of the plane's destination in Hartford, said Joel Raymond, a spokesman for the airline.
"At approximately 12:15 p.m. CommutAir flight 4776, operating as United Express, reported a fire in the cockpit while on approach into Hartford," he said in a statement to ABC News.
"We have a fire in the cockpit," the pilot can be heard saying in audio obtained by ABC News. "We're going to declare an emergency."
After controllers respond and tell the pilot to begin descent, the pilot then says, "Okay, we have window heat assist, got some smoke in the cockpit. We have, uh, there is a flame but I think we'll be able to get it on the ground quickly. We have a visual."
The airlines said the crew quickly extinguished the fire and landed safely, adding that all passengers and crew safely evacuated the aircraft and were bused to the terminal.

"According to information from the scene, several crew members received injuries of varying degree while leaving the plane and were hospitalized," the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.
Doctors specialized in burn treatment have been dispatched to help the military staff, according to the Interfax news agency.
Preliminary reports indicate that the accident was caused by an engine fire on the propeller-powered plane.
Tupolevs grounded
The Russian bomber plane Tu-95, known among NATO forces as "the Bear" is a strategic bomber capable of carrying nuclear weapons and cruise missiles. Different versions of the aircraft have been an essential part of Kremlin air power for decades, with early models conducting long-range patrols in the 1950s.
The Russian air force has decided to suspend Tu-95 flights pending investigation of Monday's incident, officials said.
The news of the engine fire comes only days after two Russian military planes malfunctioned during separate training missions.
Last Thursday, two pilots were forced to eject from a MiG 29 and were hospitalized, prompting Russian authorities to ground the fighter planes pending investigation. Later on the same day, a Su-34 bomber skidded off the runway and rolled over after the brake parachute malfunctioned. The crew was not injured.

America's trillion-dollar warplane just caught on fire, Florida:
The F-35 Lightning II is supposed to be America's primary warplane for the next several decades. But here's one big problem. The F-35 can catch on fire ... just while trying to take off.UPDATE: Pilot uses training to avoid damage and injuries, Iowa:
That's what happened on June 23, 2014, when a fire swept through an F-35 fighter jet taxiing on a runway at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida. A new report by the U.S. Air Force's Accident Investigation Board shines new light on what exactly happened with America's hottest new warplane.
The military classifies the fire as a "Class A Mishap," meaning an accident that causes death, permanent injury, or costs $2 million or more in damage. According to the report, this particular incident cost the Department of Defense "in excess of" $50 million in damage.
And it could happen again.
Here's how the Air Force investigators described the incident. The aircraft was scheduled to fly as part of a four plane training sortie. But prior to takeoff, two aircraft slated for the flight "had slight maintenance delays."
Air Force officials decided to press on with the mission, sending out a two plane sortie instead. The "mishap aircraft" — as it's referred to in the report — was to be the second ship of the two-ship formation.
But as the plane went down the runway, its engine stalled. Fire warning systems began blaring, the pilot shut down the engine and then bailed out of the cockpit. As he escaped, the flames quickly grew into an inferno.

She said the pilots reported smoke in the cockpit but later the "full emergency" was downgraded to an "urgency".
There was no fire seen as the plane landed 39 minutes after the first distress call. All 471 passengers, including six children and the 30-member crew disembarked safely.
"Emirates flight EK413 from Sydney to Dubai...was diverted to Colombo due to a technical fault," the airline said in a statement without giving details about the nature of the problem.

Exposure to radioactive fallout causes mental impairment, aggression, poor self-control, and seizures or seizure-like activity. Pilots passing out while flying has also gone up exponentially. But even more important is how radiation causes accelerated metal fatigue and damage to computer components and hydraulics. It was extensively studied by Eugene Wigner at Oak Ridge Laboratory for the US Government.
