Security forces and rescue teams examine the wreckage of an Indonesian military C-130 Hercules transport plane after it crashed into a residential area in the North Sumatra city of Medan, Indonesia.
Listed below is the latest installment of global aircraft incidents, continuing on from these earlier compilations here, here and here. A total of 150 such reports have been compiled for the 30 days of June. Once again this tally does not claim to be comprehensive, as its very likely that many 'minor' accidents, especially away from the English-speaking world, will have been missed.

Sadly, (and as intimated in the last report that something like this might be on the cards) on the last day of the month another major accident involving an Indonesian aircraft (military) occurred and the combined death total from both the plane and on the ground currently stand at over 140 victims and is likely to increase.

Delta Air Lines flight makes emergency landing in Green Bay, Wisconsin:
A Delta Air Lines flight from Green Bay to Minneapolis had to make an emergency landing after an engine was damaged by an apparent bird strike shortly after takeoff.

Airport director Tom Miller says the Airbus A319 with 78 people on board safely returned to Green Bay just before 8 a.m. Friday.

Miller says recent rains have birds flocking to the airport despite efforts to scare them off. He expects less of a problem when dry conditions return.

It was one of two emergency landings at Green Bay's Austin Straubel International Airport on Friday. The other happened about 40 minutes earlier, when a cargo plane landed after one of its two engines failed about 40 miles south of Green Bay.

Two Russian Military Fighter Jets Crash In Under 3 Hours:
Two different types of Russian military jets crashed during training flights within hours of each other, news agency RIA Novosti reported, citing law enforcement and Defense Ministry officials.

The first plane, a MiG-29 fighter jet, crashed near its base in Astrakhan late last week. The pilot ejected safely, but the plane "exploded, caught fire and was destroyed," RIA quoted an unidentified government source as saying.

Two and a half hours later, a Su-34 fighter-bomber aircraft in Voronezh flipped over while landing. The crew survived, and the plane did not catch fire or explode, RIA reported, but the aircraft sustained heavy damage.

According to sources quoted by the agency, the plane veered off the runway shortly after landing and then turned over. A Defense Ministry source said the plane didn't deploy its drag chute — a small parachute deployed by heavier aircraft such as the Su-34 to slow down after touching the runway.

Flight Crew Puts Out Fire In Plane In Mid-Air:
The crew on a United Express flight put out a fire in the cockpit in mid-air Friday and performed an emergency landing, airline officials said.

The small Dash 8 turboprop commuter plane with 36 passengers took off from Newark Liberty International Airport and reported the fire about 12:15 p.m. near Bradley, about 15 miles north of the plane's destination in Hartford, said Joel Raymond, a spokesman for the airline.

"At approximately 12:15 p.m. CommutAir flight 4776, operating as United Express, reported a fire in the cockpit while on approach into Hartford," he said in a statement to ABC News.

"We have a fire in the cockpit," the pilot can be heard saying in audio obtained by ABC News. "We're going to declare an emergency."

After controllers respond and tell the pilot to begin descent, the pilot then says, "Okay, we have window heat assist, got some smoke in the cockpit. We have, uh, there is a flame but I think we'll be able to get it on the ground quickly. We have a visual."

The airlines said the crew quickly extinguished the fire and landed safely, adding that all passengers and crew safely evacuated the aircraft and were bused to the terminal.

Russia grounds Tu-95 bombers after engine fire:
At least five Russian servicemen were injured on Monday during a failed takeoff of a Tu-95 bomber in the Amur region, some 9,000 kilometers (about 5,600 miles) east of Moscow.

"According to information from the scene, several crew members received injuries of varying degree while leaving the plane and were hospitalized," the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.

Doctors specialized in burn treatment have been dispatched to help the military staff, according to the Interfax news agency.

Preliminary reports indicate that the accident was caused by an engine fire on the propeller-powered plane.

Tupolevs grounded

The Russian bomber plane Tu-95, known among NATO forces as "the Bear" is a strategic bomber capable of carrying nuclear weapons and cruise missiles. Different versions of the aircraft have been an essential part of Kremlin air power for decades, with early models conducting long-range patrols in the 1950s.

The Russian air force has decided to suspend Tu-95 flights pending investigation of Monday's incident, officials said.

The news of the engine fire comes only days after two Russian military planes malfunctioned during separate training missions.

Last Thursday, two pilots were forced to eject from a MiG 29 and were hospitalized, prompting Russian authorities to ground the fighter planes pending investigation. Later on the same day, a Su-34 bomber skidded off the runway and rolled over after the brake parachute malfunctioned
. The crew was not injured.

No injuries reported in small plane crash in Jonesboro, Arkansas:
A small-engine plane crash landed in the parking lot of a business center at the corner of Red Wolf Blvd. and E. Highland Dr. early Wednesday morning.

Jonesboro police were called to the scene and an officer met with pilot Kenneth Caubble and passenger Harrison Caubble, both of Jonesboro, around 5:45 a.m.

Kenneth Caubble told the officer the pair were flying to Oklahoma when the plane "began to fly strangely," according to the Jonesboro police report.

Caubble decided to turn the plane back to get to the airport. However, the engine began to stall.

The report states Caubble said he landed the plane safely in the parking lot, but "struck a metal post which tore the right wing off of the plane, then struck a second pole causing the plane to flip over and catch fire."

The Jonesboro Fire Department arrived shortly after to put out the fire.

Passengers evacuate onto plane's wing after fuel spill at Boise Airport:
Passengers aboard an Allegiant flight that had just arrived from Los Angeles at the Boise Airport opened the emergency exit and evacuated after seeing what they thought was smoke outside the plane.

A Boise Airport spokesman says the plane had parked at the gate when fuel began to leak from an auxiliary engine onto the tarmac Friday evening.

The airport says that fumes from the spilled fuel were seen by some of the passengers, who thought the fumes were smoke from a fire.

The spokesman says the passengers then opened the emergency exit above the wing of the plane and evacuated onto the wing. A few passengers jumped down from the wing to the tarmac.

The airport says that once they realized there wasn't a fire, the passengers were brought into the terminal.

Plane passenger: 'I think it's our last hour', New York:
Some passengers on a plane that was forced to make an emergency landing at Canandaigua Airport Sunday afternoon believed they were about to die.

A commercial plane with 37 passengers and three crew members aboard was forced to make an emergency landing Sunday afternoon when smoke filled the cockpit and passenger cabin.

Those passengers also praised the crew's quick, professional response during the crisis.

According to Federal Aviation Authority spokesperson Arlene Salac, a CommutAir 770, a DeHavilland DH-8, declared an emergency when the pilot reported the smoke and diverted to Canandaigua Airport, where it landed smoothly and without further incident on runway 31 on Sunday at 2 p.m.

The flight originated at Newark Liberty International Airport and was enroute to the Greater Rochester International Airport, Salac said.

America's trillion-dollar warplane just caught on fire, Florida:
The F-35 Lightning II is supposed to be America's primary warplane for the next several decades. But here's one big problem. The F-35 can catch on fire ... just while trying to take off.

That's what happened on June 23, 2014, when a fire swept through an F-35 fighter jet taxiing on a runway at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida. A new report by the U.S. Air Force's Accident Investigation Board shines new light on what exactly happened with America's hottest new warplane.

The military classifies the fire as a "Class A Mishap," meaning an accident that causes death, permanent injury, or costs $2 million or more in damage. According to the report, this particular incident cost the Department of Defense "in excess of" $50 million in damage.

And it could happen again.

Here's how the Air Force investigators described the incident. The aircraft was scheduled to fly as part of a four plane training sortie. But prior to takeoff, two aircraft slated for the flight "had slight maintenance delays."

Air Force officials decided to press on with the mission, sending out a two plane sortie instead. The "mishap aircraft" — as it's referred to in the report — was to be the second ship of the two-ship formation.

But as the plane went down the runway, its engine stalled. Fire warning systems began blaring, the pilot shut down the engine and then bailed out of the cockpit. As he escaped, the flames quickly grew into an inferno.

Emirates A380 makes emergency landing in Colombo after smoke in cockpit:
An Emirates Airbus A380 plane carrying over 500 people from Sydney to Dubai made an emergency landing in the Sri Lankan capital on Friday after pilots detected smoke in the cockpit.

The plane, which landed safely in Colombo, was 320 nautical miles east of Colombo's Bandaranaike International airport when pilots made a distress call, airport's chief air navigation services officer Crishanthi Tissera said.

"The pilots said May Day, May Day and we activated all our emergency services and brought the aircraft to a safe landing," Tissera told reporters.

She said the pilots reported smoke in the cockpit but later the "full emergency" was downgraded to an "urgency".

There was no fire seen as the plane landed 39 minutes after the first distress call. All 471 passengers, including six children and the 30-member crew disembarked safely.

"Emirates flight EK413 from Sydney to Dubai...was diverted to Colombo due to a technical fault," the airline said in a statement without giving details about the nature of the problem.

An American Eagle flight made an emergency landing in San Antonio after the cockpit reportedly filled with smoke. Flight 3276, which was heading to Dallas-Fort Worth from Laredo, landed safely without incident and the passengers boarded onto other flights to DFW. While some passengers reported hearing noises and seeing some smoke in the cabin, others said they didn't notice anything out of the ordinary. "We heard a noise. We smelled some smoke. Pretty much immediately the flight attendant stopped beverage service," one passenger said. "There were people that were reacting, that were freaking out and there was smoke coming out of the plane," another passenger said. At least one passenger reported hearing noises prior to seeing smoke.
