They see the snow as "an anomaly" rather than as the beginning of a new Ice Age.

Chile, 06-06-2014: The snow that fell on Route 90 at the entrance of Pichilemu during the afternoon on Friday was "unusual," said La Primera Compañía de Bomberos (the First Fire Company) on its Twitter account

The phenomenon not only surprised the transiting area, but also the Chilean Meteorological Office who listed the snowstorm as an "anomaly".

According to meteorologist Patricio Silva "we had expected snowfall above 1,000 meters, but not in the coastal zone".

Higher parts in southeastern Santiago (the Chilean capital) were completely covered in white.

The frontal system came in the afternoon Friday to Santiago, brought rain and snow in the higher parts of Santiago in the south east.

In social networks, many users reported the phenomenon in The Vizacachas, San José de Maipo and Puente Alto.

Reader's comment: MET Offices, like the one in Chile, cannot even predict the weather and are completely surprised by the snowfall. And if the pictures of the snow were not put on the social media, they would not even report about the snowfall. They see the snow as "an anomaly" rather than as the beginning of a new Ice Age.
