Pardon used to be for a specific crime for which someone had been convicted. This "pardon" is something else entirely.
Maybe USAF bases don't belong in other countries.

Yep. And let's see. . . some old proven truths which could be given similar treatment:
1. Watergate was a "limited hangout"** to avoid the "Cuban Problem" (I.e., that Bush*t I and Nixon - the only Americans who couldn't ever consistently remember where they were on 11/22/63 - were neck deep in the killing of JFK. Hell, I remember where I was and I was only four years old!) (Read some Jim Marrs, et al.)
2. Jumping to a later, sadly unforgettable moment, was the 1/1986 destruction of the Challenger, here. Launched outside of all pre-established launch site ambient temperature protocols.
(Just like on 9/11, folks there were talking of the explosions, controlled demolition, or how at OKC folks were talking of unexploded bombs in the buiidings, folks here were saying - it has to have been the cold. It was amazingly cold. )
But why then launch? The best theory I've heard about: That evening's State of the Union Address by Reagan needed a 'sound bite,' which they still got one, of course.***
So very sad how far America has fallen into AmeriKa in our lives.

*** I do not believe it was done in hope for some manipulateable moment at the cost of the expendable astronauts, but given the nature of the VP then - Bush*t #I - I now sadly must keep in mind the possibility that there may well exist some memo somewhere discussing those launch pros and cons and saying how it would be a "win-win" situation - even should it blow up**** at least 'sound bite' wise.
