In October 2011, 21-year-old photographer Grace Brown from Massachusetts created the Tumblr blog Project Unbreakable to "increase awareness of the issues surrounding sexual assault and encourage the act of healing through art."
In a video posted on YouTube, Brown said she began the project by photographing people that she knew.
"At that point, I had no idea how powerful this project could be," she said.
Shortly after, Brown said she received e-mails from survivors asking her to photograph them. Some submitted their own images.
The images display phrases that both men and women said were told to them by their attacker before, during or after their assault."I realized I had the ability to make a huge difference in the world where sexual abuse is shamed and kept quiet and people are finally letting go and taking the power back with words that were once used against them."
To date, the blog has over 2,000 images from around the world.
"I do this project for the little girl that was molested and raped by her stepfather."
"I do this for the 13-year-old whose attacker crawled into her bed when she was too drunk at a party."
"I do this for every man and every woman who has been a survivor of sexual abuse."
According to Statistics Canada, one in four girls and one in eight boys have been sexually abused by the time they are 18.
"My name is Grace Brown. These are our stories. And we are unbreakable."

"If you won't have sex with me I will tell the police that you tried to rape me"
It was far worse than this. The threats of violence to be carried out by police officers and my fellow prisoners including being group sodomised by the latter. I was subjected to a detailed lecture for half an hour about my fate should I not co-operate with her. But then she said...
"Never mind, you'll only have to do it once and then I'll let you go".
It seemed the lesser fate but it was not.
"What is it to be? Marriage or prison?"
It took me two years to find the reckless courage to escape.
This is misery porn when you get down to it. Abuse victims need therapy, not pity and flashcards. They need law enforcement, schools, and social services to their jobs.
Maybe you could try to see the empowerment that comes from people having the opportunity to release themselves from the words that were used against them. You might even be able to see how this project helps raise awareness.
Very often the very best therapy is NOT carrying the secret anymore. Are these "victims" asking for pity? Or are they being very, very brave, and crawling out from underneath a rock many of us -apparently- would rather they stay under?
Sexual abuse, sexual violence is a crime of the highest degree. A society of people needs to look at it for what it is, for sexual abuse/violence takes away some essential part of a person, so, instead of living, thriving and doing, people who have been subjected to this, are only surviving. A great project like this gives people a real opportunity to tell their stories and share their pain, to see and feel that they are not alone, that people do understand and feel their pain. And that is so valuable for all of us, because it not only brings solace and relief to the victims of abuse, it brings back that essential part of each one of them that someone tried to took away from them. It bring back the victims of abuse into society, so with help of other members of our human family they can start to live again their lives, step by step, and to the fullest degree possible.
It's so good to see so many good men to stand up and say, "I do care!" I hope many more man will do that. I also hope that many more man will share their stories of abuse. There is no shame in sharing your story. Just make a first step. These hideous phrases, "Men do not cry", "Be a man" and so on is just one of the psychopathic lies. There is no shame in crying. It only brings us all closer together. We all become unbreakable.
I want to share some songs, written for men and women alike by great human being - John Lennon:

It's fairly well documented that John Lennon was a serial wife-beater.
I am glad to see pictures of men, also, because they generally find it hard to admit that they were raped. That is my understanding anyway. And we shouldn't forget that there are women out there that are also capable of these crimes.
Kudos to the founder Grace Brown, for shining a light on rape. I think it is a remarkable project. The survivors finally get to tell the truth, despite all the obstacles that society throws at us in order to silence us.
