A year or so we experienced something similar. Two nights in a row, we heard a rumbling noise outside and could not tell from which direction it was coming. Then a couple of seconds later BOOM! It shook the whole Mexican gulf coast. Later the next day, NASA said it was a sonic boom from the shuttle landing. But, when I checked the time of the landing with the time of the boom, it didn't match. It also didn't explain why we had the same thing happen on two different nights and at different times.
