Sanborn, New York - Peter Robbins, a renowned UFO expert and investigator gave his take on an "out of earth" experience Thursday night at Niagara County Community College.
The lecture brought in a full audience of students and various members of the community. The college's Student Senate brings in UFO experts every year because of the overwhelming interest on the subject, said sophomore senate member Ryan Ballentine.
"I think it was very interesting," Ballentine said after the presentation. "He had a lot of facts to prove and a lot to substantiate the claims he was making."
Robbins was introduced as the No. 1 American expert on the Rendlesham Forest UFO incident in Great Britain. He joked, "I apologize to anyone hoping I would be a little strange. I'll try to be a little stranger. You are the jury. I'm presenting the evidence to you."
He spent nine years working on the Rendlesham Forest case, considered to be one of the most publicized UFO occurrences, and co-wrote the book, Left at East Gate, A First Hand Account of Rendlesham Forest UFO Incident, Its cover-up and Investigation. The book was also written by first-hand witness to the event, Larry Warren.
Robbins stated why he believed this particular UFO incident was a real sighting by presenting all the released evidence for the case. He said many first-hand witnesses consent they had seen a "triangular machine" that looked like black glass, around 10-feet-by-10-feet, tapered in the air, with "symbols on the side of the machine." He also presented that there are several witnesses that watched the "machine break into star-sized things," while the machine "exploded without sound, as a wall of flashing bulbs went out."
Robbins presented evidence of a witness who suffered severe burning of the retina, that wasn't there prior to witnessing the UFO.
Robbins also discussed in detail the government's extreme attempts to cover up the event, explaining in official reports the after effects of the incident in Rendlesham Forest were the work of "burrowing rabbits."
"This would be funny if it wasn't so insulting," he said.
The case was not released unto the British press until August 1983 after UFO investigators finally were able to gain custody of credentials documenting the incident through a Freedom of Information request.
Jason Salsman, 21, said that he will think of UFO's differently after listening to Robbins.
"It makes me take (UFOs) more seriously because he shared facts, some of which I already knew and others that I didn't and I'm definitely thankful for going to the seminar," Salsman said.
