Location of Sighting: Mereworth, Maidstone A26
Date of Sighting: 1972 (cannot remember date, think Summer)
Time: Afternoon approx 1420hrs

Witness Statement: Was Traffic Police Officer at time with a colleague travelling towards Tonbridge.

Towards North spotted two objects at what appeared high altitude. Flying in diagonal formation, tube shaped, but flying "sideways". They were moving slowly but then stopped and reversed at enormous speed for a short while (10 seconds), then continued forward as before and accelerated fast forward out of sight.

This was reported over Force radio and we were instructed to go to Tonbridge Police Station and then took a phone call from an RAF officer, after which we were sent forms to fill in. We never heard another word about it and took a great deal of stick from other officers.

I can give the name of my colleague, but as I no longer know his whereabouts feel it is unfair to name him without his permission. We never seeked publicity over this, the opposite in fact. I did think it would be mentioned in the latest list of sightings and cannot understand why it has not been.
