Security camera footage captured the moment a magnitude 8.8 earthquake struck in a penitentiary in the Chilean capital of Santiago last Saturday. Inmates were seen quickly gathering in the prison's courtyard seconds after the shaking began.

Meanwhile, panic could be heard in the screams of people gathered at a nightclub in Valparaiso when the quake struck. Amateur video captured the moment the crowd became aware of what was happening. People began to yell as they attempted to make their way out of the building.

The death toll rose to 796 on Tuesday and aftershocks continued to roll through the region.
