Location of Sighting: Old Harlow. Essex
Date of Sighting: 9th January 2010
Time: 0200 am

Witness Statement: I was about to close the curtains for the night and thought I'd admire the snowy conditions outside from the warmth of my bedroom when I spotted a bright hovering light, fairly close by over Harlow about 3 miles away and in front of me at about 30 degrees up. Its light was white at the time and I thought it was a helicopter hovering on part of its patrol but then the object skipped slightly to the right, in the blink of an eye and flashing abruptly through red, green and blue light. Over the course of half an hour I watched the object move slowly higher and higher and further and further away, constantly flashing and emitting coloured light every time it moved, first white light then red then green then blue, when it paused it held its white light until it moved again. Then it would flash through red, green, blue, red, green, blue light during movement albeit slow.

I looked at a map later and calculated its speed somewhere around 4 to 8 miles an hour based on its horizontal travel although it,s speed may have been slower due also to vertical travel taken.

By the time I stopped watching the light it was a tiny pin point and at about 60 to 70 degrees, its coloured light routine still visible too.

Its route, speed, distance and coloured light show rule out for me things like the light from stars in precession, planes on route or helicopters on patrol.
