The UFO Traffic Report for Friday, June 26, 2009, includes five selected sightings over five states, according to witness statements filed in the past 48 hours with the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) database.
Today's stories include: Bright Lights over New Mexico look like they caught the attention of the military; a shape shifting UFO over California, two Bright Lights moving over North Carolina caught the attention of a retired deputy sheriff, two bright round and red objects over Brook Park, Ohio, and an odd Flash of Light case over Tuscon, Arizona, skies.
Please keep in mind that most UFO reports can be explained as something natural or manmade. If MUFON investigates and reports back on any of these cases, I will update this page.
The following reports and their headlines are unedited. You can read my selected cases by type of UFO report at the UFO Traffic Report
index page.
First up tonight is a New Mexico witness who watched a series of Bright Lights in the sky, one of them very close to ground level. Military jets may have been in the area following some of these objects.New Mexico, June 24, 2009 - Bright objects on & below horizon line -- hovered then vanished w/o sound.I live way up in the mountains and was letting dog out. Noticed an extremely bright yellow/orange light just over the mountains to the east, significantly brighter than any star or airplane, but completely silent and almost motionless. Object moved straight up into the sky, very slowly and still silently, then a bit faster and then just winked out of sight.
Next, two smaller lights did the same thing -- but these had flashing red lights and an audible, but still very quiet, engine noise (military jets?) following the trajectory of the first object.
Finally, another solid light, even brighter, but white not yellow/orange, in the same relative location (east) but BELOW the treeline, meaning hovering very, very near the ground. This light blinked twice and then also vanished.
Tried to photograph, but not enough light to catch detail.
A California witness during daylight hours noticed a silent object hovering just a few hundred feet in the sky. The object seemed to be "twisting in and around itself." Then after about seven minutes, "it seemed to all clump together and it started heading upwards." The bright white object hovered a short while longer before just disappearing.California, June 23, 2009 - Shape-shifting UFO.I was standing out in the backyard smoking a cigarette when I looked up and noticed a weird object in the sky. It was no more than a few hundred feet up and almost directly above the house. As I was watching it, I was trying to think of what it could be. There was aircraft noise but as soon as the airplane that was nearby passed, it was silent. I stood there watching it for a good while. No noise, nothing coming out of it. It was hovering and twisting in and around itself as it did so. It did this for about 7 minutes when it seemed to all clump together and it started heading upwards. As it was going up, it lit up in bright white lights. It hovered for about a minute or two longer and then suddenly disappeared. I'm a believer in UFO's and I have seen some anomalous activity before but never in daylight and never so close. It was amazingly clear to the naked eye and I can imagine I wasn't the only one to have seen it. I don't know how long it had been there as it had just caught my eye while I was outside. I tried to capture it on my cheap phone but got nothing. I wanted to run into the house to get my camcorder but I remembered that my camcorder battery was dead and I had no idea where my girlfriend's camera was. I texted her right away to tell her what I was witnessing. She told me to get her camera but I was hesitant to go looking for it because I was amazed at what I was witnessing and didn't want to miss one second of it. Now that I didn't capture it, I'm a greatly disappointed because it was amazing and wish I had something to back up my story other than just my own retelling.
A retired deputy sheriff in North Carolina watched two distant lights moving across the sky "as if they were synchronized." While the first object continued to move out of view, the second object slowed down and grew in size to 4 or 5 times its original size. This second object then shrank back to its original size and moved away and out of sight.North Carolina, June 23, 2009 - Two star-like objects following each other at a great speed and elevation, traveling North to South.Walking dog...clear night. Observed two star-like objects, at what appeared to be a great distance away (perhaps in orbit). They were traveling at a constant very fast speed from North to South in unison, as if they were synchronized. From my point of view the two objects stayed a hand width apart while following each other, then the first object continued it's quick pace South but the second blew my mind. It slowed down and grew with brightness in size 4 to 5 times it's original size. It seemed like it was pointing a light right at me for about 1-2 seconds. Long enough to wonder if it were coming my way. Then it's brightness shrank back to original size and the the second traveled East and upward into space till it became so small I lost sight. The first continued on past my sight from N to SSW.
Neither object showed flashing lights. I suppose the first could have been some fast man-made jet, but the second was freaky. I'm in my 40's, live on a farm, seen jets, shooting stars, walk every night, retired Deputy Sheriff...never seen anything like this.
A Brook Park, Ohio, woman noticed a bright red, round object in the sky - and a few minutes later, two more identical objects appeared. All three objects were silent.Ohio, June 21, 2009 - Witnessed red glowing objects overhead flying from east to southwest.I was sitting on my back patio watching the 10PM news when I saw a red round object in the sky which was glowing. I wondered what it was but did not get up to look closer ( I was in my screened in patio). A few minutes later 2 more of the same objects flew overhead. I then called my husband who had gone to bed to come out and verify that I indeed was not seeing things. He also witnessed the objects flying over our house from East to Southwest. He had never seen anything like this either. It was not a helicopter as there was no sound at all. We live close to Hopkins Airport and are used to hearing and seeing airplanes but this made no noise at all. I called the Brook Park police department (they probably think I am crazy) and asked them to go out and look. The dispatcher said "well even if we see it I'm not sure what we can do" I suggested that maybe we should call NASA Glenn Research Center and report it but she didn't seem to be believing me. She said she would make a note of my call. Both my husband and I watched it until it disappeared from sight. I can't believe that no one else in the area saw this but my husband and I. Have you received any other reports of this? I have seen meteors and shooting stars in my life and I have also seen planets and satellites in the sky. This was nothing like any of those things. It moved slowly and glowed red.
It was one of the weirdest things I have ever seen. The next morning when I got up I asked my husband if in fact it did happen and I was not dreaming. He verified that indeed he had also seen it. He only saw the two but in all there were three.
A Tucson, Arizona, witness saw a bright flash of light in the sky at 9:20 p.m. on June 23. The light was so bright, he said "it was like the sun came out ." He said there was no noise associated with the event.Arizona, June 23, 2009 - The Tucson sky lit up, like the sun came out for 1 second. Not a cloud in the sky as far as the eye could see. I could see the outline of the mountains to the south! Not a UFO sighting but a UFL (unidentified flash of Light) So bright it was like the sun came out for 1 more second at 9:20PM in Tucson. I called the local news and reported it, they said that several other people witnessed the same thing. My buddy (Leo) was outside with me and said "if i didn't see it myself, I wouldn't have believed you" (he's very skeptical) My wife was kicking back with us on the back porch and I was facing south toward Davis Monthan Air Force Base but I would say that this light seemed to come from above or at least to my north (not from the base). My wife was facing north and did not see this event. There was no noise related to the event even after waiting to hear something like an explosion. Not a cloud in the sky for as far as the eye could see. the news came on 40 minutes later and doplar radar showed no cloud in the sky for at least 60-80 miles. Again, not a UFO sighting but an unexplained light event.
