The UFO Traffic Report for Friday, June 19, 2009, includes six selected sightings over five states, according to witness statements filed in the past 48 hours with the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) database.
Today's stories include: three lights forming a triangle over Arizona with a photo; a triangle UFO over Colorado that hung around for three weeks before moving on; a cigar-shaped object over Oregon with a comparison video from YouTube; a circular object making a quick stop over California; a crescent shaped object and orbs in the Oregon skies - and a humanoid shape on the ground; and campers in Michigan reporting three unusual lights in the sky.
In other news: The J. Allen Hynek Center for UFO Studies (CUFOS) is making a special offer for all UFO Examiner readers. The International UFO Reporter - the CUFOS journal continuously published since 1976 - is available on one DVD as PDF files. Check this out. I will also be exploring these issues here in the future.
Please keep in mind that most UFO reports can be explained as something natural or manmade. If MUFON investigates and reports back on any of these cases, I will update this page.
The following reports and their headlines are unedited. You can read my selected cases by type of UFO report at the UFO Traffic Report index page.
First up is an Arizona witness out looking at desert wildlife who saw pulsating lights hovering over a distant mountain peak that formed a triangle pattern. The lights were observed for about 40 minutes before they disappeared.
Arizona, June 16, 2009 - Triangle of lights seen near Gila Bend
We were out in the desert looking at wildlife. Lights appeared hovering over a distant mountain peak.
Lights were stationary but each of the lights appeared to be pulsating. We watched the lights for about 40 minutes and then they disappeared.
This Colorado witness watched the same triangle-shaped lights in the sky for three weeks - always appearing at the same time. The witness noticed that a large triangle shape blacked out the sky and the lights "were in perfect alignment."
Colorado, May 5, 2009 - 3 bright lights in shape of triangle
Driving home on Hwy 285, southbound. Clear night sky.
I noticed 3 bright lights over Bailey, CO, over the National Forest.
Low in the sky there were no stars out, but I saw a large triangle shape blacked out.
The spot it stood in, the lights were in perfect alignment.
I assumed it was low stars, but there were no twinkling and I quickly forgot about it.
The object was a very large triangle shape. The top part pointed at an angle towards the sky and the back lights pointed towards east and west. It remained stationary at all times with no movement at all. No blinking lights or anything else.
This object and lights could only be viewed southbound or westbound. At first I was no concerned and assumed it was low stars, but it wasway too low for stars. This was viewed over the Park National Forest and at about 8-9000ft mountain elevation where there are no lights.
This object and lights were present for about 3 weeks almost every night in the same area and about the same time from about 9:30pm to before dawn.
An Oregon witness saw a "white-colored-appearing cigar-shaped object." She described it as looking like "a white pencil with no eraser" and moving north to south over downtown Medford at approximately 1,000 feet and drifting in and out of the low clouds. The YouTube video here is what she says the object looked like.
Oregon, June 13, 2009 - While driving along Crater Lake Avenue near the intersection with Jackson St, saw cigar-shaped object drifting in and out of low clouds.
I am a former jet Naval Aviator and ATP-certificated pilot with more than 5,200 hours total time in the air and flew in Alaska for 18 years. I grew up around aviation, as my father started the first Cessna Dealership in Medford, Oregon.
My sharp-eyed Alaskan Inupiat Eskimo wife -- whose brother is a Commercial/Instrument rated, Alaskan bush pilot -- was the one who actually SAW the object while I was driving our Audi in light traffic. By the time I pulled into a parking lot to try and see it for myself, the low clouds obscured the almost white-colored-appearing cigar-shaped object. Riding with us was a husband and wife who are both Commercial-rated helicopter pilots, but they did not see it in time, either, as there were only a few openings in the clouds to discern it. My Native Alaskan wife is always the one who sees notable objects first while we're driving (like deer and other wildlife, birds, airplanes, etc.), as she has the kind of eyes (as many females do) that can immediately distinguish camouflaged objects from the surrounding scenery.
The cigar-shaped object (she described at the time as looking like "a white pencil with no eraser") appeared to be moving north to south approximately over downtown Medford, Oregon, and slightly west of the climbout/approach path for Runway 14/32 at the Medford Airport; it was not at a very high altitude (perhaps a thousand feet AGL slightly above the base of the low clouds) and was drifting in and out of the low clouds. She says it looked EXACTLY like the one in this short 8 second video found on You Tube at this web link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AzOUs1ETpro&feature=related
All four of us riding in the car last Saturday afternoon at or about 5:50 p.m., June 13th, 2009, would be particularly interested if anybody else in Medford spotted the object at that time, too. We have absolutely NO DOUBT that what my Eskimo wife described was really what she saw -- she has ALWAYS had the sharpest eyes of any of us.
A California witness out for a cigarette noticed a circular object in the sky with lights "twirling around the aircraft." After just a few minutes, "it zoomed away."
California, June 3, 2009 - Circular saucer shape w/lights around the bottom edge rotating, and moving side to side.
I was preparing for bed and decided to have a cigarette out on my patio, when I noted an circular object in the sky to my right. At first I thought it was an airplane, though it looked strange, ie the lights were twirling around the aircraft unlike a plane. Then I focus carefully and became slightly frightened, but thought to myself, "you have seen this before approx. 30 years ago in Wickliffe, Ohio and the aircraft back then just hovered above my car while I was parking or driving into my drive way and no harm came to my children or myself. So, I just peered at it while it moved side to side for approx. 2 to 3 minutes, then it zoomed away.
An Oregon witness out for a cigar noticed "flickers and flashes of light in both crescent shapes and orbs" in the night sky. Then a passing car took the witnesses eyes off of the sky and across the street to something more unusual. The witness watched "a whitish humanoid shape stand up and quickly walk into the neighboring yard across the street."
Oregon, June 16, 2009 - Witnessed a crescent shaped light and multiple smaller orbs in the night sky.
I had taken my dog outside to have a cigar and about halfway through my cigar I started to notice flickers and flashes of light in both crescent shapes and orbs. There was cloud cover but no thunderstorms. The light seemed to be both in the cloud at times and also under the clouds. Did not even loosely resemble lightning. As I watched this very lengthy light show, I was aware of a passing car. My dog then began to get unnerved and looked in the same direction as I was looking. As the car came closer down the road, across the street I noticed a pair of eyes as if an animal's eyes were reflecting in the light except they were a deep purple/indigo. As the car passed I watched the spot where I had observed the eyes and was shocked to see a whitish humanoid shape stand up and quickly walk into the neighboring yard across the street. My heart began to race and I became quite unnerved. I called my wife outside and told her what I'd seen and asked her to look at the lights in the sky as well. She confirmed that something was flickering/flashing in multiple spots. We both got very nervous and came inside the house. As I write this, my heart is still pounding in my chest. All through this episode the dog also was alert and cautious raising and lower her head as she watched something more that we couldn't see across the street. Also, I heard a jet pretty low with a loud roaring sound afterwards.
Sitting around a camp fire on a clear night, this group of Michigan witnesses watched "a set of three lights that moved very fast back and fourth in one area." For about two minutes, these three lights "danced" in the sky - and then just disappeared.
Micigan, June 13, 2009 - Lights moving very quick and back and forth.
We were having a camp fire around 11:00 pm on Sat. night, June 13th, out in the country so sky was full of stars and mostly clear when I caught something out of the the corner of my eye as I was looking at the stars. It was a set of three lights that moved very fast back and fourth in one area. I pointed it out to the other people there ( about 7 of us ) and for almost 2 minutes it ( for a lack of better words ) danced in the sky. Then just disappeared. We were all stunned and in disbelief at what we saw and spent the next hour or so trying to come to some conclusion as to what it was. I live in the country were sky viewing is very good and me and my boys love to look at the stars. We see satellites almost nightly and planes both high and low altitude constantly. THIS WAS NEITHER.
