Iowa is not the first state that comes to mind when thinking of UFO traffic. In fact, it's not even in the top 40 - but there's a UFO mystery in a small Iowa pond that locals are attempting to solve.

Pond owners Denny and Terry Straube, from Marion County, say something fell from the sky this past January - making a two-foot-wide hole in their pond and throwing water out into the surrounding area.

But looking back into the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database, I was amazed to see that there have been 41 cases from Iowa logged in between just January 1, 2008, and May 30, 2009. That's 41 cases in 17 months or 2.4 cases per month.

Compared to other states, the Iowa reports are low. Just this year, from January 1, 2009, to May 30, 2009, there have only been seven UFO reports coming out of Iowa - and one of those was a "joke" report where someone reported the Starship Enterprise hovering in the sky.

The reports are pretty low-key as compared to other states. For example, from February 2, 2009.

My friend was on his way driving to pick me up . On his way he notices a bright light hovering above the high school football field. He picks me up and tells me to check out something and we go over the hill on Iowa Avenue and he says "look". I see it right over what I can say is either the field itself or over the center of town. It is a bright white light and sitting there. I think is this a helicopter coming dead on at first. I roll down the window and no sound and so sign of red or blue lights? So we turn the corner and shortly after the thing begins to Pulse and turns from white to a amber color with a white streak to the left and is gone! We are looking in the same area and then look and see it way off to the south west of town but dimmer. It is in the direction of the mall. Now we begin to trip out!!! Now this is where we are not sure it is the same thing or another craft . So we head towards its direction and this thing moves to the north west and then hovers over, from what I can tell, is the tree line and descends in a fielded area where mostly corn fields should be. I have portions of this footage on my digital camera and him on his cell phone during half the chase. Unfortunately, I did not record the footage from when we first saw this thing at it's brightest. I will say it was as intense as the moon but smaller hard to say what size it was. It clearly was not a conventional air craft, planet, and performed excessive speeds.

This was not a Chopper, a plane, or Venus. This was a moving object that traveled in 4 directions and changed color and defied what we know.

Bright green sphere seen by I80 near Davenport, Iowa as I was eastbound.

Was driving a Triaxle truck I bought in Utah back to Pennsylvania and was on I80 around 10 pm or so around Davenport, Iowa. I was a little road weary from driving so long in subzero (-22) weather with bad road conditions so the time and place are approximate. Heading eastbound on I80, a bright, LED stop-light green colored sphere-like light caught my right eye out the upper portion of my passenger window. It was zooming ahead of me fast like something in a sci-fi movie. As the roads were treacherous (vehicles all over the side of the road from wrecks), I glanced back at the road for a moment and lost sight of it. Seconds later, the CB radio came on with a trucker in the area exclaiming "What the f@#$ was that?" I asked back, "What did YOU see?" He said, "A green flash going through the sky!" About 3 or 4 other CBers responded that they were glad somebody else saw it because they weren't going to say anything thinking they were going crazy from driving too long or something. I estimate the diameter of the light of a quarter at arms length. I've seen a white comet-like light with a tail that stopped & disappeared on I76 in western PA and 3 other family members have seen 3 other "unknown" objects since June, 2007 in PA... My fiance is really into this UFO thing now and is going to build a near-infrared webcam to try and film them in daylight like on YouTube. (There are a lot of hoax videos on Youtube but a lot of real ones too--like the NASA ones--do a search!) We think they consider us "Planet Zoo" and observe us like we do isolated tribes in the jungle... or, on the wilder side, they could be from our distant, more evolved future? Both would explain their lack of involvement....
