The UFO Traffic Report for Monday, May 18, 2009, includes 11 selected sightings over eight states, according to witness statements filed in the past 72 hours with the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) database.
Today's stories include two cases of spheres - one hovering near Ohio's I-77, and three spheres moving across Michigan skies; a round object about 100 feet off of the ground in Colorado and 50 feet in diameter caught on camera; a white colored ball shooting across Washington skies; a cylinder-shaped object over New Mexico; a boomerang-shaped object captured on camera moving slowly over Colorado; two very low flying, glowing shapes crossing North Dakota; an orange glowing sphere over Florida; a slow and pulsing bronze colored light hovering in Ohio; and two Oklahoma witnesses reporting the same "strip of white light."
Please keep in mind that most UFO reports can be explained as something natural or manmade. If MUFON investigates and reports back on any of these cases, I will update this page.
The following reports and their headlines are unedited.
First up in Ohio is an interesting case where a driver on I-77 at mile marker 136 first observes a bright spot above or beyond a wooded area called Fort Island Park in Fairlawn. As he approaches, he sees that the object appears to be a shiny, silver sphere - at this point about one mile ahead and approximately 100 yards to the left of the freeway. He describes the object from a distance as about the size of a quarter at arm's length. The witness lost track of the object for a moment as he changed lanes, and when he looked back, it was gone.
Ohio, May 15, 2009 - Observed a silver sphere.I was in my truck, a 'dock-high' box style on I-77 heading south going to Akron from Cleveland at 2:35 in the afternoon. I do local freight deliveries for a living.
The weather was 72 degrees, road was dry, sky was bright nearly cloudless with clear blue sky, no haze.
Just past State Rt 18 is the State Rt 21 split where I-77 curves to the left [mileage marker 136] after which I-77 travels for a straight section about two miles long.
I had just completed the curve and was beginning this straight section eastward. Naturally my point of focus is on the road and my mirrors. But in my peripheral field of view I noticed up ahead and slightly to the left of the freeway a bright spot low in the sky. It was either directly above or beyond a wooded area adjacent to I-77 known as Fort Island Park in Fairlawn.
Looking directly at it I saw the bright light to be what seemed to be shiny silver sphere. I would say it was about one mile ahead and a hundred yards to the left of the freeway. It wasn't real large [huge] but wasn't tiny either. It was about the size of a quarter held at arm's length.
I often drive this road between Cleveland and Akron. At first I thought 'that's curious, WTF?' My first thought was it seemed similar to and was positioned relative to the freeway to one of those aviation warning devices suspended along high tension lines seen near airport runways but those are normally bright orange. I dismissed this possibility as I knew there weren't any airports over in that area. I continued observing it noticing its reflective qualities struggling to justify what I am seeing.
Then for some reason I decided what I was seeing was a blimp that just happened to be pointing directly head-on and so it would appear spherical and that any moment the blimp would deviate and I would see the normal side length appear. Keep in mind that Akron is home base for Goodyear's blimp and it's not uncommon to see it flying up to Cleveland for Indian's game coverage so seeing a blimp is not unusual around here. I stared at it for a good fifteen seconds or so. I remember saying to myself 'what is that??? What is it? It was a good distance away so detail wasn't clear but it seemed as if it was a mirror like reflective quality. I remember thinking I'll get a better idea what it is when I pass it up ahead.
I looked away because I needed to checked my mirrors prior to changing lanes from center to the slower right hand lane. After successfully changing lanes I tried to relocate the sphere it was gone. I thought it must have moved momentarily out of sight behind an approaching tree line and I would see it in a moment passing by but it never did reappear.
The object appeared relatively stationary. I did not see it move from it's original point.
Coincidentally a few minutes later when I was in central Akron area there in the sky was the real blimp which is painted primarily dark blue with the word GOODYEAR down the side. Nothing close to what I saw up the road. I realized this blimp [the real one] is much smaller than the object I'd seen earlier particularly because this blimp was closer than the object I saw previously. I knew it couldn't have been the same object because I was going a lot faster that the blimp normally travels. It was only when I saw the real Goodyear blimp that I couldn't explain what I'd seen earlier.
This Michigan parent and three children watched as three different spheres of light moved across the sky, one after the other in what appeared to be a structured pattern - spaced exactly 22 minutes apart.Michigan, May 14, 2009 - First of three UFO sightings from 22:08, then second 22:20, and third 22:32.I stepped outside on my backyard patio at 22:08 to sky watch and observed a very bright beige-white sphere, pea sized at arms length, moving in a straight line WNW to ENE at 60 deg elevation for ~ 30 sec. I called my daughters (age 11, 7, and 6) who also witnessed the object in a clear night sky that did not blink and made no sound.
At first I told my daughters that we were observing the space shuttle and Hubble telescope yet upon checking SpaceWeather.com the ISS was not tracking 42.3 lat., -83.2 long on 05-14-09 nor any other listed satellite at 22:00!
Next at 22:20 I again walked outside to my backyard and observed a sharp star sized white ball with medium brightness moving straight line ESE to ENE at 80 deg for ~ 20 sec. I again called my daughter (age 11) who also witnessed the object moving toward the direction of the first larger object seen 12 min earlier.
It seemed that the second sphere was vectoring toward the first larger sphere's flight pattern at a faster relative speed as we lost sight due to a large tree in our neighbor's front yard.
Finally at 22:32 again in my backyard I observed a star sized sphere materialize first very bright white than dim to pale white at 90 deg traveling slower yet reversing the second sphere's direction for ~ 10 sec.
It seemed that second sphere was returning from its mission 12 minutes earlier as it slowly dimmed to invisible in the clear night sky also being observed by my daughters (age 11, 7, and 6). The 12 minutes between each sighting seemed a structured pattern to me?
Also acknowledge that ESA launched a satellite from French Guinea on
05-14-09 and am unaware of its orbit pattern.
Turning to round objects in the sky, another UFO caught on camera over Colorado skies as this object - approximately 100 feet off of the ground and 50 feet in diameter, would move, then stop, and move and stop - in a pattern.

Colorado, May 16, 2009 - Round object moving and stopping over and over with less than one second interval between movesWhile laying on the grass Saturday night taking photos of the night sky using my Nikon S630 set to Night Landscape I saw an object on my left move and stop, move and stop, move and stop with about 1/2 second interval in between each move.
I quickly shifted the camera to the location of the object and got off one photograph. Since the shutter stays open longer filming at night I had to wait for the camera. I kept seeing this object continually moving and stopping. I got off one more shot before I did not see it again.
Note: The time stamp on these photos is not accurate. This camera has a problem that needs to be fixed by Nikon. The time and date is accurately set in the Time/Date settings but the time stamp is not accurate.
This object was about 100' from the ground, probably less than that. It would not stay still long enough for me to make an accurate guess. The object is not very large, less than 50' in diameter.
I was very excited seeing this object. My original intentions were to go out and wait for it as I was expecting it and my hunch paid off.
Looking at the photo one can easily see the object and then the movement, then stop and more movement before stopping again.
Because the shutter stays open longer using Night Landscape the camera captured the object and the movement. Great camera best I ever owned. Great night photography.
A white ball, traveling fast, was seen over Washington state for six to seven seconds.Washington, May 10, 2009 - White cloud-colored ball appeared in sky traveling fast from north to south and suddenly disappeared. On Sunday about mid day, May 10, 2009, on a clear sunny day, I was walking around in my yard looking at my plants leafing out when I noticed a plane flying overhead. It was flying from east to west and then I noticed the contrails from the plane because they were shorter than those I normally see in the sky from my yard. From my view the two contrails appeared to be only about 5" long. While I was looking at the plane and the contrails, suddenly there just appeared in mid air coming from the north a white ball traveling pretty fast. The white ball crossed behind the plane's path about an inch (in my view) from the end of the 2 contrails from the plane. The ball was traveling in a straight line from north to south and was visible for only about 6 to 7 seconds before suddenly just vanishing. It probably traveled about 10" to 12" (in my view of the sky) before disappearing. There were a few fluffy white clouds in a different part of the sky, but none were anywhere near where I saw the ball or the plane. The ball appeared larger than the plane. It was cloud-colored white and was slightly smaller than an aspirin held at arm's length. It was moving fast--much faster than the plane. Because of the height of the plane, it barely appeared to be moving at all as the ball crossed its path.
I don't know what I saw, but it was round and was the color of a white cloud. It just appeared in the sky, was traveling fast, and then just disappeared. The event lasted only seconds and it startled me to see something out of the ordinary.
A cylinder-shaped object over New Mexico was described as about three times the size of the jet it was flying near - long and skinny - and white in color.New Mexico, May 16, 2009 - Object was beside and in front of a jet airplane.I was sitting on the deck when I noticed a jet with contrails. Then I noticed another object with no contrail very close to the jet which was about 3 times the size of the jet or more. As they moved to the west, the larger cylinder shaped object moved way ahead of the jet until my wife and I lost track of both. We got the binoculars out and were able to see the cylinder shaped UFO very clearly.
It was long and skinny and white colored. It had something in the middle of it, like spokes sticking out or something sticking out. It seemed to be divided somehow in the middle. The UFO started out on the other side of the jet going at first the same speed as the jet but then it went a lot faster and went kept putting more distance between it and the jet.
The UFO disappeared while we could still see the jet and contrails in the distance.
We were astounded and excited when we saw it and, of course, very curious.
The UFO was too far away and moving too quickly and getting even further away to take any pictures or a video. I wish we could have because it was so clear through the binoculars.
A boomerang-shaped object was caught on camera over Colorado skies. The photographer took the photo and realized only later it was an odd shape. The object was moving slowly - the usual prowling speed of many UFOs. This report was most likely filed by the same person who made the other Colorado report in today's UFO Traffic Report.

Colorado, May 15, 2009 - Object in Sky Strange ShapeWhile at the park I saw an object in the sky and took a photo. I thought probably a plane but took the photo anyway.
Later on while looking at it I realized it's a perfect boomerang shape. Could be a conventional craft, who knows.
The object was moving slowly and since I thought nothing about it I didn't pay anymore attention to it.
Now I regret not using a zoom to get a closer picture.
Pay no attention to the time stamp. My new Nikon S630 is the greatest camera I have ever owned but the time stamp is different that the actual camera settings. I need to contact Nikon for warranty.
As I read this next case of two small spheres very low flying over North Dakota, I couldn't help but imagine two "pilots" sitting in a top secret laboratory somewhere - controlling these little flying crafts as they gazed onto a computer screen. "Hey," one says to the other. "It's people on the ground. Let's buzz them." Oh, they are in so much trouble if the boss reads this.North Dakota, May 17, 2009 - 2 luminescent glowing objects crossing the sky criss-crossingI went outside at work to have a cigarette and noticed a star next to the moon and thought how weird it was that this was the only visible star in the sky and how bright it was. Then as I stared around at the sky to try to see other stars (which I finally noticed a few dim stars), I saw 2 glowing shapes flying across the sky at super speed, but very low to the ground.
It wasn't lights but more of a luminescent glow that was very dim. There was nothing flashing, no blinking lights, just the 2 glows. I couldn't really tell any shapes of a spacecraft, only the glow. They were going very close to the ground, maybe 30-50 feet up.
As they passed above me, they crossed each other like they were swapping places...right glow to the left, left glow to the right, and just sped off across the sky.
They were absolutely silent as I remember hearing nothing but the grass crunching under my feet as I stared at them in awe. I've seen hundreds of airplanes cross the sky where I was, and have never seen anything that you couldn't tell was a plane by the blinking colored lights and visual shape of the plane.
Not to mention it was far too close to the ground. I was very scared, heart pounding at what I was actually witnessing, but I had watch it and follow it until I could not see them any longer because I knew it was such an extraordinary event.
After they flew so far away I could no longer see them, I got very paranoid and started looking at the clock to make sure no odd/missing time had passed. I just sat in utter awe and shock afterwards. I just could not believe what I had just seen.
Here's an odd description of a sphere-shaped UFO over Florida skies.Florida, May 17, 2009 - Orange sphere with 2 blue spheres attached.I was outside and I noticed something out of the corner of my eye. I looked up to the sky, and saw a glowing object traveling west to east. It was round; or rather it was a larger sphere with two smaller spheres on the bottom. It was totally silent. The larger sphere glowed orange, and the smaller spheres were blue. It was not a plane, and it did not look like any meteor I ever saw. It moved too quietly and too fast for a plane, and too slowly to be a meteor. The orange glow was very distinct. The two smaller spheres on its bottom were too large for aircraft lights and were not flashing or bright enough.
As I said, the object traveled west to east, low in the sky. It wasn't tiny, nor was it large. It was much larger than a meteor. It was not a fireball. The glow seemed to come from inside the sphere. It didn't leave any trail; there was no sound, and no electrical malfunctions at my house. When the object passed over me, and was east of me, it completely disappeared. It wasn't far enough away to have been out of viewing range. It was there and gone. Just like that. I stood outside a while to see if there was any more activity, but I saw nothing else except for flashes of light from a thunderstorm far to the east-southeast.
This is the second time I have seen a UFO in the past 4 months. The other one disappeared, then reappeared, then disappeared again. I hoped this one would reappear, but it did not. It was just before 1 am central time.
This slow pulsing, brilliant bronze colored light with a pure white flashing light that changed patterns moved over Ohio skies. The object hovered at a high altitude and then dropped altitude abruptly.Ohio, May 17, 2009 - Slow pulsing bright bronze light with patterned bright white flash changed altitude at acute angle very abruptly while traveling at very high rate of speed.I was traveling back from Paulding, OH to Antwerp, OH on Cement Plant Road traveling northwest. I noticed a slow pulsing brilliant bronze colored light with a pure white flashing light that changed patterns between 1 to 3 seconds a pattern (1 sec flash, 2 sec flash, 1 sec flash, 3 sec flash, repeat) hovering in place which then started to move north west towards Antwerp almost parallel with my own direction. This strange light was at a high altitude as it appeared small, but very bright. It then suddenly dropped altitude very abrupt and quickly maintaining the same speed and direction. I noticed that the pulsing bronze light appeared to remain constant in a peak diameter before retracting back into a single point of light and then back again. Both the pure white flashing light and bright bronze pulsing light suddenly started changing in intensity, appearing to randomly change from very dim to very bright. It then began to accelerate and crossed out of view in about 2 to 3 seconds. I believe the lights were fixed onto something as they moved together perfectly.
Two case reports. Same state. Same day. Similar descriptions. These Oklahoma reports both describe a "strip" of white light in the sky.Oklahoma, May 14, 2009 - Large very bright bluish white "strip" of light seen on bottom of a large craft. While driving in to work (night shift in downtown Tulsa, Ok) at 10:02pm on Hwy. I-75 southbound (near 96th street exit) I saw a VERY BRIGHT "strip" of white or bluish white light in the sky to the east. This is very close to the approach used for runways at Tulsa International (Rwy. 18L and 18R). I am used to seeing planes approaching to land at the airport in Tulsa, but this WAS NOT an airplane about to land at the airport. It appeared (as best I can tell) to be about 1/4 mile to my east (no way to reference this distance, just a best guess). It had a dark outline I could not identify well, but then lit up with a VERY BRIGHT strip of white light on it's bottom.
The light looked a bit like the expensive xenon headlights used by teenagers in the import cars, as it was almost blue tinted a bit. maybe like a mercury vapor light, but MUCH brighter. It stayed on for about 3/4 of a second and went out, then back on for about 1/4 second.
Then, as it was going dark, it started moving away (appeared to be eastbound, but was hard to tell). As soon as the lights went out, I lost sight of it's dark outline and the sighting was over.
If I were to guess, I would say this strip of light was at least 100 feet long, but I could see no real shape except that the strip of light was a straight line below a darker craft. When I saw it I immediately got a "fight or flight" feeling as adrenaline surged through me and I was awestruck and scared at the same time. I continued the drive to work (no missing time on my commute) and sent this report.
Oklahoma, May 14, 2009 - Strip of white light, bar like, with a thin line of light below, seemed suspended.we were in the backyard and looked to the east and noticed a strip of white gold light just suspended in the sky...we couldn't tell the distance and it lasted only a few seconds..then I saw a line below of light..then it was gone...no movement.....the light was very well defined....we felt like we had seen something unnatural....still in awe.
If anyone in the areas listed above know anyone or have heard any stories from the areas listed above, collaboration of the sitings is highly desired. Please google MUFON and enter a case or contact me at ce5now@ce5now.com as I am trying to find additional witnesses for the Ohio case. We are interested in both people who might have a conventional explanation or anyone else who saw something at those times. Thanks.
