The UFO Traffic Report for Wednesday, May 13, 2009, includes 13 selected sightings over 11 states, according to witness statements filed in the past 48 hours with the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) database.
Today's stories include a wingless cigar-shaped UFO hovering over New York, more UFOs near Murrysville, Pennsylvania, with the sighting of this V-shaped craft, a Minnesota driver who pulls over to get a better view of an odd red light and discovers a disc-shaped object, a bright orange disc 200 feet over Georgia, three small spheres spotted just over a neighbor's home in Michigan, a round UFO with lights that seemed to move counter clockwise over Ohio, several New Hampshire lights that lead to the witness seeing a disc-shaped craft, two Illinois brothers who witness silent bright lights wobbling in short bursts, a bright ball of light that stops and hovers over New York skies, a bullet-shaped object over Florida with an odd trajectory, a slow moving orange ball over New Jersey, a bright orange object over Idaho, and a low flying and silent fireball over Pennsylvania.
Please keep in mind that most UFO reports can be explained as something natural or manmade. If MUFON investigates and reports back on any of these cases, I will update this page.
The following reports and their headlines are unedited.
First up is a short report from a New York witness who observed something many others have reported from around the country - low flying cigar or cylinder-shaped metallic objects. This one was between 300 and 800 feet in the air and traveling, as usual, very slowly across the sky, near Watervilet.

New York, May 11, 2009 - Long (no wings) Cylinder like. Metallic. My backyard about 6:10 pm (EST)
I wanted to mow the lawn so I moved my two cars. I happened to look up (something told me to) and I saw the object. I watched it hover (about 300-800) feet of the ground. It stayed their for 15 seconds like that. Then It started moving Northbound slowly. I looked away, and it was gone. It gave me the creeps. No one believes me. It looked sort of like this...(see image at left).
Again from Murrysville, Pennsylvania, this V-shaped object was reported "tumbling slowly" across the sky on April 4.

Pennsylvania, April 4, 2009 - PA-Reflective daytime V-Shape (Chevron) 1/2 inch at arm's length, tumbled slowlyMurrysville, PA - 11:46 am. I had slept in on that Saturday morning because everyone was gone early.
I was drinking my coffee and strolled over to the living room patio door to check the weather outside since I could see the trees in the valley blowing pretty hard. I was thinking to myself, "This probably would be a great day to fly a kite". Just as I thought that, a glint of metallic or reflective something caught my eye up. I couldn't believe it! I kept squinting & blinking my eyes hard to clear them. I said, "What the..." It was a V-shaped object below the clouds, tumbling slowly. I wondered if someone's kite or balloon got away, so I turned around to grab my binoculars off the bar to check it out. In the second or two it took me to grab the binoculars and spin around, it was gone! I thought, "WOW, that must have been another UFO!" (We've seen quite a few different kinds here especially since last year) So, I grabbed my camera, looked, didn't see it, but decided to take a few pics anyway in case it reappeared. It did, half minute later, but it was drastically farther away in that short period of time AND to the left of where it was, judging by how much smaller it was. The 'kite' would've had to go against the wind to go where it did.
The 1st pic is of where I first saw it with drawing added of what it looked like.
The 2nd and 3rd pictures are the ACTUAL pics of it with blowups enhanced.
The 4th pic I took after it went out of view but I look a pic anyway, and, after zooming in and looking around, found this little speck that might be it far away (can't upload it because only can do 3).
I wasn't going to post it because, a) the pics are not too clear, b) we've reported so many people might think we're 'kooks'... but my family thinks it's better than no pictures and that others might have seen the same thing.
A bright, blinking red light with two white lights nearby caught a Minnesota motorist's attention. The man got out of his car to get a better look and saw a single object - round with white, rotating and blinking lights all around it.Minnesota, May 10, 2009 - red blinking light - became a round object with blinking white lights all around itDriving north on Highway 81 after crossing Bass Lake Road noticed a bright blinking red light to the west, also saw to the left and upper and lower of object there were blinking white lights. Pulled over on Highway 81 got out of car and watched for about 2 minutes, now only seeing one object and it was round and had white rotating blinking lights all around it. Went home and got the camera and it was gone. My wife driving, my son in the back seat and we all saw the same thing.
A group of Georgia witnesses near Fort Oglethorpe saw a bright "orangey-red light" just 200 feet off of the ground, and then noticed that something was spinning "end-over-end" around it - like a "ball of light trapped in a glass dome." They also described it as disc-shaped and silent.Georgia, May 8, 2009 - A round bright orange object with something spinning around it. Flying at about 200 feet at 25 to 35 mph making no noise at all.M, my fiancée and our two children were walking in a public park when she said to our oldest "Look at the light" I looked up and saw a bright orangery red light flying at about 200 feet off the ground. It had something spinning end over end around it seemed separate from the light itself. It looked like a ball of fire trapped in a glass dome. It was at night so I couldn't see what was spinning around it but it looked like a disk of some sort. The object made no noise at all and to be as low as it was I thought I would at least hear something. The object flew in a straight path till it was out of our sight. I was almost scared but could not seem to take my eyes off of it, even to take a picture with my cell phone. It was way to low to be a plane and it was surely not a hot air balloon. There was nothing I could think of to come up with a reasonable explanation of the object. About 4 others aside from my party witnessed the event. All of them didn't know what it was. I never really considered myself to be a UFO believer but now I don't know.
Three spheres of white light were floating in a "circular, counter clockwise motion," above the neighbor's house next door to this Waterford, Michigan witness.Michigan, May 10, 2009 - 3 small spheres rotating counter clockwise then rising up to form an intertwined design then resuming counter clockwise motionShortly after midnight on May 10, 2009 I awoke to use the bathroom and as I was washing my hands I happened to look out the bathroom window which faces almost straight west. There were three orbs or spheres of white light moving/floating in a circular type counter clockwise motion above my neighbours house which is only about 20 feet from my home. They would then move upward and move around each other making an intricate design and then drop down and resume the circular motion again repeating this every few seconds (in a playful type manner). These spheres were not high up in the sky. I don't know for sure at what elevation they were but my bathroom window is probably about 30 feet off the ground and I had to look up slightly to watch this light show.
Initially I thought someone was playing with spotlights but there were no beams leading up to these orbs, they were just floating in this same pattern over and over.
I watched for a few minutes then began to realize this may be something very unusual. I became quite apprehensive and worried that "they" might know I was watching them so I crawled back into bed my mind racing as to what I had just witnessed. I got back up four or five minutes later to see if they were still outside my window but they were gone.
All day Sunday I kept thinking about what I had seen, rehashing it in my mind. Unfortunately I was so mesmerized by this encounter I did not even think to take any pictures.
A round UFO seen over Ohio had lights that seemed to be "moving around the object in a counter-clockwise direction."Ohio, May 11, 2009 - black, round, with two visible lights on opposite ends of the solid round objectThe UFO appeared to be between 1500 and 5000 feet in the air. It was round with a black main body with one white light at one point of the disk and another of the same color at the opposite side. The object was moving quietly from southeast to northwest and the lights were moving around the object in a counter-clockwise direction as observed from below.
This New Hampshire story involves a series of lights in the sky - one of them that looked like it was circular with one large middle white light.New Hamshire, May 6, 2009 - Three bright lights just above the tree line and smaller object with lights and green haloI live on the third floor of my apartment building. It has 4 windows facing the mountains to the south and west, and also the river behind Main St. I had just put my children to bed around 9:15pm, and went out side to sneak a smoke, when I heard what sounded like a very low rumble, maybe a jet ( not uncommon for jets to make a once over around here)
I looked up and saw a small twinkling light moving very quickly (south across the sky directly over Main St. but as I was watching it, the light would go out completely and (still flying in the same direction) would show up again about 5 seconds later. I thought that was weird but didn't think much of it. Was probably a plane, though I had never seen one act like that before.
I went back inside and put on a movie. About 10 minutes later, I heard the low rumble again, and noticed that the same twinkling light was coming back again from the east but this time it was very low, about 100ft? above tree line. The light did not blink out as it had before but moved in a very straight line from east to west and was going much much slower than before. It went out of sight so I sat back down to watch my movie.
Then I guess 3-4 minutes later I got up to used the bathroom and happened to look out the window. What I saw caught me off guard. I saw three very large lights like spotlights or headlights straight ahead of my window. They were lined up horizontally and just hovered. It looked, from my perspective, that they were right over a nunnery that overlooks the river. I thought for sure that twinkling light I had seen earlier was now headed on a collision course with my apartment!
Except the lights never got bigger as if it were getting closer. It just stayed in the same place for about 30 seconds or so. I don't know how long it was there to begin with but I felt like it knew I was watching it.
Very quickly the bright lights seemed to dim into much smaller ones with soft blue lights in between and a bright almost neon green aura around it( it maybe 1 craft or two and one just turned off it's lights. They were so bright I could not tell if the smaller one was there before.)
It was circular with one large middle light that was white, and two smaller lights on either side of it that had a bluish tint then two more smaller white lights on the outer edge. The green aura looked like it just outlined the craft and was pulsating or glowing. The rest was black.
It looked like the lights were rotating(I drew pictures hopefully i can upload by the end of the week) It moved at a snails pace toward the river to the west. I watched it for at least a full minute before it just seemed to disappear. I looked around for it because I know that planes can't do that, so it had to go somewhere.
As I looked around I saw a single tiny red dot hovering at least 75ft over the river behind my apartment directly under the moon. It stayed there motionless so I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me but there was no reflections of anything red coming from inside my apartment.
Anyway I watched it for maybe 15-20 seconds then all of a sudden it went straight up in the air! Slowly at first then faster. It stopped right dead center of the moon then came flying right over my apartment. These objects made no sound! It was early in the evening so the moon was still pretty low, it was also a very clear night no clouds in the sky at all.
Two brothers who had just finished watching another exciting episode of UFO Hunters (History Channel, Wednesday nights), stepped outside and noticed a bright, yellow light coming at them from the northwest and traveling southeast in a straight line. They watched this silent object move - with short wobbling bursts. Three minutes later it disappeared over the rooftops.Illinois, May 11, 2009 - Yellow/White light heading Northwest to SoutheastMy brother and I had just finished watching "UFO Hunters", ironically, and we decided to step outside to have a smoke. The sky was perfectly clear and you could see a lot of stars.
As we were talking, I noticed a bright yellow light coming at us from the Northwest, it was flying to the Southeast in a straight line, but it was wobbling in a calculated left to right shift in very short, calculated bursts.
There was absolutely no sound, and this thing was moving fast. It was definitely not an airplane or anything like that. It had no flashing lights. It could have possibly been a satellite or the space station, but I don't think that is the case, because of the left and right short shuffle motions it was making.
We watched it for about 3 minutes before it disappeared over the rooftops continuing on it's Southeast path. I wanted to go in and get my Nitemax camcorder and MiniDV recording unit, but I knew that by the time I got back in, it would have passed by because of it's speed. We opted to just watch it.
We made note of the trees, and the stationary stars, and you could clearly see the wobbling motion it was making by looking at the stationary objects and viewing the object from our peripherals. We're not quite sure what it was, but it definitely wasn't an airplane or a balloon. And at one point in it's path, it's light intensity increased to a bright whitish blue. Would like to know if anyone else witnessed it in the area.
Another bright, round ball of light - this time over Rochester, New York - stopped dead in the sky, turned sharply at a right angle, and the blinked out.New York, May 11, 2009 - large, bright ball, appeared at high speed from sm. cloud, shot off and blinked out.I was driving a client home at 7:48PM tonight. (Monday, May 11, 2009.)We were about to stop for a red light when I looked at my dashboard clock. It was 7:48PM. I was early getting this client home. I'm always checking out the skies whenever I stop the car. We had beautiful skies all day long and I took notice of it. At the time of this event, the sky had several flat, wispy clouds in the south western sky.
As we stopped for the red light, I had a clear view of the sky and looked up. We were stopped at the traffic light at the corner of Browncroft Blvd and Winton Road, Rochester, NY. We both saw a plane in the distance taking off from the Rochester Airport, low in the sky, ascending upward and flying slightly south-easterly, turning more easterly and starting to climb to cruising altitude.
I said to Arlene, my passenger, "I wonder where they're going at 8 o'clock at night?" I then felt the "need" (urge) to look above and to the right of that airplane, where I saw a large bright round ball of light come right out of the clouds very abruptly, heading north-easterly and moving fast.
It was moving about one and half times faster then the airplane. It was heading to what looked like the same direction of the airplane, but a bit more south-easterly. (If the ball of light had continued in that direction, in a very short time it would have been parallel to the plane, but at a higher altitude.)
At first I thought it was another airplane coming in for a landing from the south, and that the setting sun was hitting it and lighting it up to look like a ball of light. It didn't act like a regular airplane though, so I held my hands up to it and closed both thumbs and both index fingers together to form a circle, and it was about that size and round, like a bright ball.
I asked Arlene if she could see it and she said no, because there was a tree across the street in her sight of vision. Just as I asked her that question, the ball stopped dead and turned sharply at a right angle to its left, my right(westerly).
I watched it head west for several seconds at a very high rate of speed, and then it just blinked out against a clear blue sky.
It did not go into any clouds, as there were no clouds in that area of the sky, just blue and clear as it just blinked out. It just disappeared.
The traffic light changed and I drove forward about 2 blocks and pulled into a driveway on my right. I looked up, but could not see anything in the sky. Had it been another airplane it would still be in the clear sky and visible by then on a sideways angle without sunlight on it. It would have been visible in the shape of a regular airplane.
I have witnessed airplanes do this many times over Monroe County during a setting sun. (A bright light, which turns back into the shape of the airplane after the airplane turns to head to the airport.) I scanned the south-westerly sky all around the area of the first sighting and to the right and nothing was visible except the original plane, on my left, still heading easterly and climbing slightly.
This whole event probably took one and a half minutes. By it's actions and speed, I feel this could have been a UFO. I sent a personal email and copy of this report to Mr. James Bouck, Jr., New York State Director of MUFON and he asked that I send it to you, also. You may contact me, however, I will be away May 15-22. End of report.
A bullet-shaped object emerged out of a cloud in Florida, changed direction and moved very, very fast.Florida, May 12, 2009 - Sighted at 10:30 a.m. from beach. impossible speed and course change. My wife and I were sitting on the Boca Raton Beach at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday May 12, 2009. The sky was clear blue with a few scattered cumulus clouds. Suddenly my wife sat bolt upright staring at the sky and stated she had just seen a UFO. She said she was watching what she (at first)thought was an airplane emerging from a cloud flying horizontally from North to South at conventional aircraft speed. The object suddenly changed direction and speed traveling upward at an almost vertical angle at a velocity so fast that it was literally gone in one to two seconds.
she described the object as bullet shaped and larger than the conventional aircraft we periodically saw from the same position.
We have been Florida residents for 30 years, and are accustomed to seeing all types of aircraft in the local skies including helicopters, blimps, hot air balloons, private general aviation airplanes, commercial jets and military aircraft including Harrier Jump Jets and advanced stealth Bombers and fighters at the annual military air shows.
Nothing in our experience comes even remotely close to the flight characteristics demonstrated by this object.
An orange ball hovered over New Jersey for more than 15 minutes before slowly moving south as this father and son watched.New Jersey, May 3, 2009 - fire Orange To the north west . Stationary 100 feet off the groundMy name is Joshua . My case worker is Ken Pfeifer . My dad's name is John I live (in) Pittsgrove NJ. 10 :45 pm to the north west of my house. As me and my dad John walked up to the street, in front of my house we looked to the west. About 1/2 of a mile down my rode was a orange ball. It was fire orange. Like almost red as of your break lights on your car. It sat still to the north west for about 15 minutes and 45 seconds at the least. Then after that it moved slightly backward and forward very slowly then moved to the south. Then it started to twinkle like a diamond color all over it.
I have Steiner German scope pretty high powered. We looked at it with that.
A bright orange object moved across Idaho skies near Lemhi, an unincorporated community in Lemhi County in north central Idaho. County population, 7717.

Idaho, May 11, 2009 - Steady, constant orange light, traveled fast, switched direction smoothly, no-soundI walked outside to smoke a cigarette. I am always looking up in the sky.
As soon as I looked up I saw a bright orange object traveling across the sky. As soon as I noticed it....I mean as soon as I ran back into the house to get a camera, it switched coarse. But it switched coarse quite smoothly. Not abrupt or 90 degrees or anything. More like 35 degrees. It almost seemed to notice that I noticed it and it changed its coarse immediately and then disappeared behind some clouds that were above the Bitteroot Range. I don't know enough about light vs. distance, and trying to equate speed accordingly. But I spent a lot of time looking up at the sky and I have no clue what on earth this was that I saw.
And finally today, a silent fireball just 200 feet off of the ground was reported near Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, Northampton County. It then gained altitude and disappeared.Pennsylvania, May 8, 2009 - Low Flying Fireball sitedI was traveling with my wife on RT 378 South from Bethlehem in to Lower Saucon. When we got to the top of 378 & Mountain Drive, we observed a very bright Low Flying Fireball. It crossed 378S & Mountain Drive, flying above some houses, maybe about 200 Ft off the ground. We continued down 378 and made a left on to Seidersville Rd. Seidersville road runs parallel to Mountain Drive. We observed the fireball still flying over the housed to the left. It gained altitude and disappeared into the sky by the time we got to Hickory Hill Rd - Bridge. It made no noise and was a red/orange pulsing color.
Typo for the May 6th incident in New Hampshire, spelled with a p, FYI in case somebody's doing a search so as not to overlook this report. Thank you.
