"It's been terrifying. I cannot believe what I seen" said Judy Gates.

Gates won't ever forget the sight of her neighbor, 54 year old Kevin Steward, dying on the front porch. She says his clothes had completely melted off of his body. Gates remembers trying to calm him as they waited for help to arrive.

"I told him help was on it's way and they finally they got here" said Gates.

Steward's death has the Bradley County Sheriff's Office baffled. He was burned over 100% of his body but they found no signs of a fire.

"There was no charcoal or barbeque grill or anything that would indicate how he received these injuries" said Bob Gault of the Bradley County Sheriff's office.

Gates says she doesn't believe anyone would try to hurt Steward. She belives the answer to what happened to him may be the cigarettes and lighter found in his hand right before his death.

"The only thing that goes through my head, he had his cigarettes and and lighter and the sun and if they were in the sun when he come back from his nephew's he went to light a cigarette and he went up in flames." said Gates

Gates believes Steward tried to douse himself with water, there's burn marks around the water faucet. And all throughout the yard, there's small pieces of charred clothing. Gates says she'll never forget her neighbor fighting to survive. But through this tragedy she'll remember his life.
