At least six women were killed and two injured due to lightning strikes at several villages in Dumri block on Saturday evening.

Among the casualties were three women and three girls. The incident took place around 4pm.

The two girls have been identified as Rinki (8) and Punam (6). They were collecting berries at Kasma-Kurma when the lightning struck.

A woman by the name of Sangita Devi who was in an under-constructed school building site at Sewatand where she had come to take labour charges fell prey to the thunder. She had two daughters - Priti Kumari (5) and Gungun with her. Priti was killed while Gungun is injured. Along with the two, another woman called Rukni Devi who was present at the spot also got killed. Another woman Yunia Devi sustained injuries.

In another incident at Jamtara village a woman who was fetching water from the well fell into it under the impact of the lightning. She got killed in the process.

On Friday evening in Giridih also two persons succumbed to lightning strikes.
