TOKYO, January - An earthquake measuring 5.7 points on the open-ended Richter scale was registered in the central part of the Japanese main island of Honshu, the Japanese meteorological agency said.

The earthquake epicenter was located in Shizuoka province, southwest off Tokyo, at a depth of 170 kilometers. Tokyo residents and visitors felt light shaking in buildings caused by the temblor. There was no immediate information about damage or casualties.
