Has Iceland's Nessie shown itself?

Icelandic television reports on the buzz around footage possibly showing Iceland's version of the Loch Ness monster, the Lagarfljot river worm.

Is this Iceland's legendary river worm? The footage was taken by a local resident and caused a stir when it appeared on the national broadcaster's webpage. The river worm is the most famous monster in Icelandic folklore, first mentioned in 1345. But skeptics argue that the video shows an ordinary fishing net moving in the water after ice melted. One thing is certain: it's doubtful the truth will be uncovered any time soon.

Is this Iceland's Loch Ness Monster?

Iceland's equivalent to the Loch Ness monster has apparently been pictured on footage taken by an amateur cameraman.

The video, taken by Hjörtur Kjerúlf at the glacial river Jökulsá í Fljótsdal, east Iceland, appears to show the serpent-like monster known as Lagarfljótsormurinn, or Lagarfljót's Worm.

Belief in the existence of the worm, which is said to reside in the lake Lagarfljót, can be sourced back to at least 1345. Sightings of the beast are considered a bad omen.

Legends say the monster began life as a tiny worm which a girl placed on a ring of gold to make the it grow, according to Iceland Review Online.

But when the owner of the ring returned she found that instead of making the gold grow, the worm had grown into a giant snake.

In her terror, she flung both into lake Lagarfljót, where the worm continued to grow and eventually became a fearsome dragon.

UFO Witnesses Interviewed on Russian TV (Video)

Residents in the remote village of Chelyabinsk, Russia, were interviewed on national TV about a UFO they'd witnessed recently. The footage does show a circular, unidentified flying object ringed by flashing lights which doesn't look like any known aircraft.

The remoteness of the area makes the possibility of some kind of private advertising service, or sky writing, unlikely. What is the object which has the citizens of the village too scared to sleep at night?

In the TV news piece, naturally in Russian, it's clear what the witnesses are saying to the reporter, even without translation. A news crew films the area in which the UFO was flying at night and shows that, in the daylight, it's obviously a frozen wilderness and not any kind of an airfield.

The witnesses (an elderly farmer and a worried husband and wife with several children) appear to be remarking how the object was circular and that they feel a bit spooked by the incident. In the description written by the YouTube poster, there is the comment that the villagers are losing sleep over the encounter.

The source of a strange booming noise heard in the Milford Haven area last night (Thursday) remains a mystery.

The noise started at around 10.30pm and lasted for two minutes.

"It was unlike anything I have ever heard," said one resident.

Pembrokeshire County Council confirmed that it received three complaints about the booming noise.

Environment Agency Wales said that they had investigated the incident and had not discovered anything untoward.

Residents living near an Army barracks say their village green became a mysterious 'Bermuda Triangle' after their remote-control car door locks were by jammed by radio interference.

Motorists in Waterbeach, Cambridgeshire, say the locks on their cars refused to work when they parked at the village green. Modern push-button ignitions were also scuppered by the unknown, eerie interference.Radio experts first noticed the problem when they met in the village pub last week and discovered they were all locked out of their vehicles. Some members of the group had to get lifts home and return with manual overrides.

Meteor Impact, UFO or Other Mysterious Phenomena? Ice Anomaly in Urals, Russia

Comment: The following is a translated and concise report of the facts, as given in the original article (in Russian).

On the morning of January 12th, village Rubezhka's local ranger, Paul Singilevtsev, was checking the area when he saw a clearing in the middle of the wide, entirely frozen and thick ice covered river Ural. The clearing was completely free of ice (its length was 100 meters, the width 6-10 meters) and in the center were huge piled up chunks of ice that, according to the witnesses, weighed approximately 200-300 kilos each.

Some of the chunks were scattered 10-20 meters from "the epicenter". According to the authors of the articles, in order to produce such an effect, one would require either a strong explosive or a serious blow with something heavy and quick. Also, the cracks had some sort of geometric consistency and were mostly even angled triangles. The outer edges of some of the ice chunks appeared to be "black", as if burned. There were traces of sand on some of the chunks, as if the water from the bottom had risen very quickly due to an impact.

On January 27, 2012, residents of Russia who live along the Ural River reported finding extraordinarily large chunks of ice in the river. These blocks of ice defy explanation, leaving some locals to speculate that their appearance may be linked to UFO or alien activity.

The enormous ice blocks were found in a relatively small area 20 meters (.0124 miles) in radius. Paul Singilevtsev, one of the locals, said he had never seen anything like it even after living in the area for 50 years. Another local actually phoned emergency services to report the unusual incident.

The Truth Behind the Scenes website reported, "Eyewitnesses say that this is nothing more than tricks of the aliens." Aliens and UFO activity are not the only explanations being suggested for the anomalous blocks of ice. At least one person has suggested that the blocks of ice may have come from an ice hotel in Russia.

Canada: Mysterious noise escalates in Windsor, Ontario

Councillor wants Ottawa to address cross-border rumble.

An unexplained rumbling disturbed hundreds of Windsor, Ont., residents this weekend to the extent that some thought it was an earthquake, prompting calls for Ottawa to step in.

City Coun. Al Maghnieh said he was inundated with telephone calls, emails and Facebook messages this weekend after the so-called "hum" returned, louder than ever.

"Between the sound and the vibration, it was just very, very bad," Maghnieh said. "A lot of people are frustrated and to a point ... demoralized."

Residents across Windsor and neighbouring LaSalle began reporting a noise they describe as similar to an idling train or semi-trailer in February 2011.

Maghnieh said a "low-frequency rumble" seemed to peak early Sunday morning, calling it "really harsh."

He wasn't alone in this complaint.

UK: Blue Balls Mystery Close to Being Solved

Scientists rule out possibility that jelly-like marbles that fell in Dorset garden could be living material.

They have provoked much speculation - some serious, many tongue-in-cheek.

But scientists believe they are close to solving the mystery of the blue balls that (apparently) rained down on a garden in Dorset.

Bournemouth resident Steve Hornsby reported how the sky turned dark, then yellow, then blue, transparent, "jelly-like" balls began falling out of the sky during what he thought was a hailstorm.

He wondered if they had dropped out of a plane. Others thought they may have been eggs from a marine animal, possibly dropped by a bird. Some of the more fanciful suggestions were that they might be the bodily secretions of angels while others began to prepare for an alien invasion.

People in Dorset in South-West England have been left puzzled following a hailstorm that rained mysterious blue jelly-like balls from the sky.

According to a report by the BBC, the strange jelly balls, having a diameter of around 3 cm each, came raining down after a hailstorm on Thursday afternoon.

The balls were reportedly spotted by a resident named Steve Hornsby who collected the balls in a jam jar.

"[They're] difficult to pick up, I had to get a spoon and flick them into a jam jar," Hornsby told the broadcaster. He further mentioned that the sky was dark yellow in colour that afternoon following which there was an instant hailstorm. As he walked across his garden, he found strange blue spheres scattered across his garden.

The strange phenomenon mystified onlookers and numerous theories and speculations were made regarding the nature and constituents of the jelly-like balls.

However, the Met Office confirmed that the substance was "not meteorological".

A man in Dorset has been left mystified after tiny blue spheres fell from the sky into his garden.

Steve Hornsby from Bournemouth said the 3cm diameter balls came raining down late on Thursday afternoon during a hail storm.

He found about a dozen of the balls in his garden. He said: "[They're] difficult to pick up, I had to get a spoon and flick them into a jam jar."

The Met Office said the jelly-like substance was "not meteorological".

Mr Hornsby, a former aircraft engineer, said: "The sky went a really dark yellow colour.

"As I walked outside to go to the garage there was an instant hail storm for a few seconds and I thought, 'what's that in the grass'?"

A team of salvage divers has discovered an unexplained object resting at the bottom of the Baltic Sea near Sweden.

"This thing turned up. My first reaction was to tell the guys that we have a UFO here on the bottom," said Peter Lindberg, the leader of the amateur treasure hunters.

Sonar readings show that the mysterious object is about 60 meters across, or, about the size of a jumbo jet. And it's not alone. Nearby on the sea floor is another, smaller object with a similar shape. Even more fascinating, both objects have "drag marks" behind them on the sea floor, stretching back more than 400 feet.

"Could this be the Star Wars Millenium Falcon, a plug to an inner world or a marine version of Stonehenge?" asks CNN's Brooke Bowman:

In the latest UFO news, a cloud-like, unidentified flying object near Rome, Italy, is mystifying experts because of its unusual properties. What is it?

The UAP (unexplained aerial phenomenon) seems to be just another wispy cloud from a distance. But zooming in on the OVNI reveals a distinct, ribbon-like pattern never observed before in known cloud formations and defying meteorological classification.

The amateur videographer suffers from the usual lack of skill, moving the camera like a second assistant director on NYPD Blue, but when they zoom in on the object, that's when the real mystery begins.

In the latest UFO news, a man videotaping two silvery orbs catches the sight of a bird flying into one of them and plummeting to the ground.

The video, posted on YouTube, shows one silvery orb hovering high above, passing through what looks like the chemtrail of an airplane. Suddenly, a second orb appears nearby, seemingly appearing out of thin air.

As the witness zooms in on the unidentified flying objects, it's clear that the UFOs are not of any known type of aircraft.

Suddenly, a bird in flight crashes into one of the orbs and begins its descent to the ground, apparently killed from the impact.

Mt. Shasta, the Cascade peak that mesmerized John Muir, has long attracted mystics, metaphysicians and spiritualists. Now a researcher is seeking 'stories and information' for a book on Bigfoot and UFO sightings.

Locals didn't find the ads, posted at the laundromat or running in the SuperSaver, to be strange at all.

A number of people, in fact, reached out to Brian Wallenstein the "researcher looking to gather stories and information" for a book on Bigfoot and UFO sightings.

A woman named Rudi emailed to report that she'd seen a bright disc hovering above Mt. Shasta. She attached a photo from a ski resort snow cam that showed a luminous speck. (Credible, Wallenstein thought.)

A man named Larry recounted his own research - including telepathic communication with "them" - conducted in preparation for the day extraterrestrials would reveal themselves to earthlings. (Too out there, Wallenstein decided.)

People pulled him aside to share anecdotes of mystery lights and star gates, or to whisper the names of neighbors and brothers with tales to tell.

It's a natural conclusion, one that even the ancients drew. Lightning from the clouds was often construed as anger from the Gods. But in the modern world, especially thanks to Steven Spielberg, such anvil-shaped clouds are thought, in some circles, to be camouflaging extraterrestrials and their UFOs.

What's interesting, and awe-inspiring, about this video is the clear blue sky surrounding the anvil hammerhead cloud. It's startling to see such fierce electrical activity on an otherwise cloudless day.

Usually, when a lightning storm erupts, the bolts from the blue come from all around, not one centrally located spot. It's a testament to the power of the natural world that the conditions are ripe for such majesty emanating from a single, threatening cloud head.

Footage on YouTube shows what is claimed to be two UFOs filmed by mountain rescue team.

A video claiming to show two UFOs flying across a wintery Scottish sky has provoked an online debate.

Almost 10,000 users have watched the footage since it was posted on YouTube on January 1.

The short video, filmed in a car driving along a snowy road in foggy conditions, shows two bright lights moving quickly across the sky.

The YouTube user says that the video was shot on a dashboard-mounted camera by a Scottish mountain rescue team.

He believes spooky silent figure is a woman wearing Welsh national dress
There was an icy, some would say, ghostly welcome on the Welsh hillsides for a tourist on a short break to the Valleys.

For when holidaymaker Paul Feehan replayed the video from his holiday he was in for what he believes is the supernatural shock of his life.

During a break at his holiday caravan the property developer from Manchester deliberately picked an isolated quiet spot beside a manmade lake to relax and take it easy.

UK: Village where nothing works after electrical signal failures

Villagers were left unable to use their showers, doorbells and even car key fobs for several days in the latest case of suspected wireless interference.

Families in Kingsclere on the Hampshire-Berkshire border, spent much of the festive season without heating after the failure of household systems which rely on digital technology.

One family, the Smiths, were baffled when their heating, shower, doorbell and even their car's remote-control door locks refused to work.

They then discovered similar problems were being experienced by their neighbours.

Chris Smith, whose wife's birthday on Christmas Eve was ruined by the systems failure, spent more than £250 trying to fix the heating and shower but neither worked until late on Dec 27.

A spokesman for Ofcom, which oversees radio communications, said: "Often these problems can be caused by a video sender that transmits a television signal to other sets in the house. They are not the source of all the problems but in a lot of cases interference is tracked down to those devices."

India: Lucknow Residents Scared Sleep Will Turn Them to Stone

There are plenty of reasons why we sometimes struggle to sleep, but being scared of turning into stone overnight is rarely one of them. That fear, however, kept dozens of people awake in Lucknow and other parts of India's most populous state this week.

It all started with a message late Monday, claiming that anyone who slept that night would turn into stone. Word spread across the state of Uttar Pradesh through cellphone messages, phone calls, and eventually even local television flashed it.

In Tundla, a small town near Agra, 18-year-old Rachna and her family of eight were woken by a neighbor at 3 am. The neighbor had received a call from someone in Kanpur saying that several people who were sleeping had turned into stone. Other people got such calls from state capital Lucknow and elsewhere, Rachna told India Real Time on Wednesday.

This news, twinned with doomsday predictions of the world ending in 2012, was enough to scare everyone, said Rachna. She and her family, including two children, joined the rest of their colony to sit out in the cold, apparently unaware of the irony that sitting in freezing temperatures was the most likely way for them to end up in frozen, stone-like form.

UFO reports in Ireland on the increase

UFO Research Association of Ireland's website provides portal for sightings

In the past three years, the reports of UFO sightings in Ireland has increased by nearly 70 percent, according to the UFO Research Association of Ireland. In 2011 alone, 59 incidents were reported, a sharp increase from the 35 reports in 2009.

The Irish Examiner reports that the founder of the UFO Research Association of Ireland, Adam Tallon, believes that there are two possible reasons for the increase in reports. "The first that there wasn't really any place to report incidents prior to our organisation and secondly I would attribute the increase to people being more comfortable reporting an incident compared to say 10 years ago."

Adam Tallon's group was founded in 2005, but was it was officially made the UFO Research Association of Ireland in 2008 when it adopted its current system of tracking sightings. Today, people can lodge reports and sighting as ufoi.org and are not required to enter any personal information, which also creates a possibility for the explanation of increase.

'Yeti Finger' Mystery Solved

A blackened, curled, oversized finger long claimed to belong to a yeti, has been identified to be human after all.

Featuring a long nail, the mummified relic -- 3.5 inches long and almost an inch thick at its widest part -- has languished for decades in the Royal College of Surgeons' Hunterian Museum in London.

The specimen caught the interest of scientists in 2008, when curators catalogued a collection bequeathed to the museum by primatologist William Charles Osman Hill. Among Hill's assemblage of items relating to his interest in crypto-zoology (the study of animals not proved to exist) there was a box labelled simply the "Yeti's finger."

The notes in the box revealed that the digit was taken from the hand of a yeti in the Pangboche temple in Nepal by mountain climber Peter Byrne,

"Mr Byrne is now 85, and living in the United States, I discovered," said Matthew Hill, the BBC journalist who last year was granted permission to research and produce a documentary on the mysterious finger.

A member of a 1958 expedition sent to the Himalayas to look for evidence of the legendary creature, Byrne camped at the Pangboche temple and learned of a Yeti hand preserved there for many years.

"It looked like a large human hand. It was covered with crusted black, broken skin. It was very oily from the candles and the oil lamps in the temple. The fingers were hooked and curled," Byrne told the BBC reporter.

The passing of the years has not caused the UFO phenomenon to dwindle at all over Victoria. Quite the contrary, each passing day brings a new sighting, a new eyewitness account.

We often believe that we are going against what is commonplace in other locations, where sightings occur at given times of the year, following schedules, only every so often etc.

None of this applies here. There are no case histories that resemble those that we have heard other analysts of the phenomenon bring up. It's as though they lived here, much like any one of us. They come and go as they please, when the feel the need to do so.

A cloud emitting UFO has brought an entire Russian city to a standstill, overshadowing Christmas and New Year celebrations and leaving residents perplexed and seeking answers from local politicians (see video below). The event took place yesterday in the southern city of Trekhgorny, located in the Chelyabinsk region near Russia's border with Khazakstan. Reports are filtering in claiming that nervous community leaders have already relayed messages to Moscow's Science Ministry asking for clarification as to the nature of the UFO witnessed and filmed. The event is significant in that Trekhgorny, created under Soviet rule, is a closed city and non-residents are forbidden entry unless in possession of a formal invitation from friends or family, approved by local authorities.

Arvada - Something in Arvada produced a frequency signal strong enough to knock out power to 40 garage doors in a tiny community.

The problem started two days ago in the 7000 block of Torrey Court. It encompasses a half mile radius.

"It's really weird," said Gina, who lives in the area. She did not want to provide her last name. "No one knows what it is."

Gina thought she was alone, until she learned of other neighbors dealing with the same problem.

"I think it's amazing," Colin Cooper, another neighbor, said. "What if it's a UFO?" he joked.

Experts say anything with a wireless signal could affect garage doors.

The Rainmaking Machine

"Let it rain, let it rain
Baigorri is in the cave
Plug in the device, and watch it rain..."

An accordion accompanies these verses, dedicated to a man capable of reaching the sky. He is said to have made it rain in the middle of a drought.

To combat the excesses of nature, some scientists have yearned to control the weather. But while controversial silver iodide cloud-seeding represents some of the more recent attempts at weather modification, one man is said to have invented an effective rainmaking machine in the 1930s. So did this mythical rainmaking machine really work as so many reports claimed? Unfortunately, we will probably never know.

The inventor of this mysterious device, Argentinean born Juan Baigorri Velar, was a student of engineering. Later, he traveled to Italy to study Geophysics at the University of Milan. This training led him to accidentally construct what history would know as the "rainmaking machine."

A large metallic space ball fell out of the sky on a remote grassland in Namibia, prompting authorities to contact Nasa and the European space agency.

The hollow ball, which has a circumference of 43 inches, was found near a village in the north of Namibia some 480 miles from the capital Windhoek, according to police forensics director Paul Ludik.

Locals had heard several small explosions a few days beforehand, he said.

With a diameter of 14 inches, the ball has a rough surface and appears to consist of "two halves welded together".

It was made of a "metal alloy known to man" and weighed 13 pounds, said Ludik.

It was found 59ft from its landing spot, a hole one foot deep and 12ft wide.

Flying Saucer Towed Down Kansas Main Street?

A few days ago, a "UFO" was spotted cruising down a main street in Cowley County, Kan. It wasn't in the skies, but instead being hauled on a flatbed truck driving down the middle of US Highway 77.

From at least one angle, the strange-shape aircraft resembled a saucer, and was covered by what appeared to be an industrial-strength tarp (or perhaps a badly malfunctioning cloaking device).

The vehicle, at about 30 feet across, was so big that local law enforcement had to remove roadside signs to allow safe passage - as well as some measure of security. Many locals suspected (or at least joked) that that it might have been a UFO or some top-secret aircraft. Local sheriff Don Read said he was not allowed to divulge much about the mysterious craft, though he did let slip the detail that it was not recovered at a crash site, but rather had been manufactured by the aerospace company Northrop Grumman.

The Nahanni Valley of Canada's Northwest Territories has been called one of the last truly unexplored places in the world. Lying above the 60th Parallel, it is accessible only by air, water or a long overland journey from the village of Tungsten. As a result, much of the area remains unexplored, despite being declared a national park in 1976, and a World Heritage Site in 1978.

Native tales tell of an unknown evil lurking within 200 Mile Gorge, and most avoid the area. Local oral history also tells of a mountain-dwelling tribe known as the Naha. The Naha were feared by the region's Dene people, as they often descended to raid nearby villages. These tales end with the rapid, mysterious disappearance of the Naha. No trace of this tribe has ever been found.

Located near to the Japanese coast in the Pacific Ocean is the vile vortex of Dragon's Triangle or the Devil's Sea. As the title indicates, the area extends as a triangle between Japan and the Islands of Bonin, including a major portion of the Philippine Sea. Such an infamous reputation for this oceanic area has been not gained contemporarily, but exists for decades and even centuries, if some records are to be believed.

Another synonym for the Dragon's Triangle is the Pacific Bermuda Triangle on account of it being located in the Pacific Ocean. The area has been in news since several decades for unexplained incidences of vanishing of ships.

Cowley County, Kansas -- Residents in Cowley County are still talking about a mystery craft, seen being towed down US 77 Monday.

Sitting inside Lindly's Appliance Store, Kammi Root is used to seeing large machinery towed down US 77. But what she saw Monday afternoon is something she won't soon forget.

"There was this funny sphere that went through on this big trailer and my first thought was, 'That looks like a UFO,'" said Root.

A huge 32 foot craft, wrapped in tarp, was as mysterious as the transport company who called Sheriff Don Read for help.

"They told us that it was an aircraft and that they had explored other ways to transport it but this was the best way for them to do it and they asked us not to say a whole lot about it," said Read.

After all, the massive load's shape would certainly draw enough attention on its own.

A Missouri police officer at Lee's Summit reports watching a "round object with very bright, white lights" that hovered just above the tree tops, according to December 2, 2011, testimony from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.

The officer was on-duty at the time and was at the intersection of 291 Highway and 150 Highway when the object was noticed to the west.

"It would take a baseball held at arm's length to cover the object," the officer stated. "The white lights had a blue hue to them and all of the lights were on the bottom of the craft. The lights were strobing, and there was no sound whatsoever. It was a clear night with no cloud cover, and the object was very low, just above treetop level."

The officer was able to capture the object with a dashboard cam - although the video was not submitted with the original report.

It was supposed to be a routine outpatient surgery to remove some growths from Kim Grice's head. But something went horribly wrong during the Tuesday morning procedure and a flash fire seared Grice's face and neck.

The 29-year-old mother of three was rushed by helicopter to the University of South Alabama Burn Unit with burns to her face and neck.

Grice's mom, who had been waiting in the lobby of the North Okaloosa Medical Center in Crestview, Fla., knew something bad had happened.

"At 8 a.m. two patients were back there," Ann Grice told the Crestview Florida News Bulletin. "One was my daughter. At 10:20 emergency medical and the fire department pulled up and there was a fifty-fifty chance that they were coming through the doors for my daughter. I went to the desk and no one would tell me what was wrong."

When hospital personnel finally explained that Kim's face had caught fire, Ann was stunned.

"I am in shock," she told the Bulletin. "This is not what happens with a routine outpatient surgery. She had headaches and the doctor was going to remove three cysts and biopsy them. But something went bad wrong and my daughter is now in a burn unit with burn specialists and I still don't know what happened. No one will tell me why or how this happened to her."

What happened to Kim Grice was not an isolated incident. Experts estimate that each year 650 fires flare up in operating rooms around the country. Some patients recover with scars and emotional damage. Some die from burns and smoke inhalation.

A father has told how his five-year-old son claims he has been troubled by visions of a ghostly man with grey skin who speaks to him in the night.

Dave Gerrity, 41, said his son Dagan first complained about seeing something in his bedroom in the family's Bridlington home around six months ago.

Mr Gerrity said: 'Dagan is scared about it. He cries about it. He's told us that at night he can't sleep because a man with grey skin comes and sits on his bed and keeps him awake talking to him.

'The first time it happened, Dagan's mum Emma and I heard him crying on the baby monitor. I went up to him and he was just crying his eyes out.

US: Mystery in Bridgewater, NJ: What Caused Strange Glowing Lights in the Sky?

It may have looked like an out-of-this-world blast, but authorities say a mysterious glow that lit up the early-morning sky in Bridgewater today was no cause for alarm.

Some county and Bridgewater officials believe that transformer fires caused by heavy rain may have played a part in the freakish light show, although they had no definitive answers about the source of the lights.

Shortly after midnight, several Bridgewater residents reported seeing a pulsating glow in the distance that changed colors, similar to the aurora borealis. They said the lights appeared to come from the northern part of the township.

"The sky lit up like pure daylight," said 87-year-old Joseph Wing, who lives on Foothill Road. "This was unlike anything I've ever seen."
